I've just restarted my journey to lose 55 pounds (I tried and gave up last year), and your videos really help me to think about weight loss rationally, tune out all the extra noise of the weight loss industry, and really make me feel like I can accomplish my goals. My mindset is really different this time around. I'm trying to create healthy habits and be proud of any progress, not just quick progress, and stay the course no matter how long it takes. Thank you for your transparency and encouragement Lucy!

I've hired a nutritionist and it's working for me. I've lost 4kg in 8 weeks without exercise. I've stopped weighing myself daily. I now weigh maybe monthly as I know its not important. I batch cook and what I'm doing fits in with my busy family life. I have a heart condition and as a cardiac specialist nurse previously I know how important exercise is to maintain overall health but it's not suitable for everyone. It has to be enjoyable to be sustainable. I've found body combat.. I'm not the best but I'm moving. The more I do it the more interested I get in exercise. I love your videos and as for talking a lot it makes you more relateable. Keep doing what your doing. It's fab x

Lucy I can’t thank you enough for your videos - they are always so helpful and so clear! I’m in my 30s and I have struggled with losing and gaining the same 10kg for the last decade - usually because every time I try to lose this weight I end up going “all out” with lots of HIIT and cutting out food groups and inevitably it is always unsustainable and I gain all the weight back. It’s SO refreshing to hear someone say I don’t even HAVE to exercise for weight loss - OR cut out any food groups! I am going to try sticking to the kind of exercise I actually enjoy and making it sustainable this time - THANK YOU!!! 👏🏻

you did great on this video and I really appreciate how you try to put all of these valuable information about weight loss in such a short period of time. I admire your persistence in your journey and you sharing what you've learned the hard way to us. I used to weigh myself every time I finish a work out and that did NOT motivate me at all and it affect my mentality about weight loss. I am so glad that there are people like you in youtube that explain and reiterate that it is in fact a journey, it will take time and that's okay. Little progress, even if not in physical such as how you feel or how strong you get, is better than no progress. :)

Excellent video Lucy. I found your channel when I was researching calisthenics, back when I was trying to find a form of exercise I'd enjoy, and I'm loving your videos about weight loss too - your advice is sensible and sustainable, and your final point about consistency really stuck with me... perhaps cos I've been reading about habits and the importance of enjoying the journey, and also because it just makes sense - developing good habits, consistent action, and not giving up, and we'll get there in the end. This is something I've been thinking about a lot which I'm slowly implementing. I can empathise with the keyboard thing - I have a guitar that I've barely touched over the past year, so it's no wonder I can't play a thing! Your video reminded me of a quote I read recently: "Show me your habits and I'll show you your future". Anyway, thanks for posting this and also for adding the timestamps which are useful.

I am not overweight but I suffered from ED my all adult life… from 16 to 6 months ago. I gained 10kg in two years because I was so restrictive and was hungry 24/7… I learned to accept my hunger. A tip for the people reading this. This was my biggest challenge but it made a huge difference. The day I accepted that some days I am hungrier everything changed. Because some days I am not at all hungry and eventually it’s all about balance.

Thank you for this video! Love the message of working out for fun, definitely something I will think about when I beat myself for not going to the gym. My problem is that I have been eating too little because I wanted to create a deficit. But then Im starving at night, and I binge eat. So finding the right amount and looking at macros is now my goal 🙏

Great video as always. I love listening to you. You’re so encouraging and realistic. When you were downsizing portions, did you feel hungry a lot? I’ve seen your videos on what you ate while losing weight and also have heard you talk about the amount of exercise you were doing. I feel like if I was exercising that much and downsizing my portions like that, I’d be starving! I’m currently losing weight, but don’t want to start exercising yet because I know it’ll make me really hungry. I don’t think I have the self control to do both!

It took me nearly 5 months to change and improve my food habits which alone helped me drop 5 percent in body fat. My metabolism is low and is slowly picking up. Everybody has their own health journey but yes some tips, tricks and hacks help along the way. I can't go low or zero carb cause it makes me very irritable and prone to mood swings. What I opt for is lower calories and healthy options. Cutting out sugar helped a lot.

Even if I know this all what you're talking about in a video it's always nice to hear it from someone who walked this path and to remind it. I'm two weeks in my new attempt, diet from dietician. And I was heartbroken that in two weeks I didn't loose anything. They say first month is the biggest loss cause of water etc but this time nothing happened and I got unmotivated (especially that my fiance lost some weight). Now I'm less worried and I'm gonna stay consistent. Not motivated all the time but consistent. Thank you so much Lucy ❤️

I recently started making a switch to reduce the amount of fats i was eating. I love eggs on toast in the morning for brekky so recently i switched out mayo for plain green yogurt and mustard on my toast. Game Changer!! tastes far better than i ever thought. I also reduced mayo in tuna salad with half the mayo and some greek yogurt. Wonderful!! Tastes even more fresh!

I saw a video on Japan. They do laps in parks, almost with the religious aspect first. I think there are runners, men in traditional attire, who do like 80 laps at a time. That's kind of what I do. 3 laps, that's my quota. About an hour. The exercise is actually, a secondary aspect.

Thanks so much! I love your channel and have been doing your work out videos quite a bit recently. I’m wondering: when you were cutting back your portion sizes, did feeling deprived ever end up making you eat more? I tend to struggle with all or nothing thinking/diet mentality, and I wonder if you have any thoughts on becoming more disciplined without becoming mentally rigid (which seems to lead to rebellion). Hopefully that makes sense.

I lost 34 kg in the past 2 years and I'm so afraid I might gain it all back. Still I caught myself eating way too much sweets last week. I now reduced that to 3 pieces per day. My goal is to eat only one treat per day (if any). I think maybe I got a bit too relaxed after I came back to my normal weight and held it for a few months. Anyway thank you so much for your videos, they were and still are a great help on my weight loss and fitness journey!

Hi Linda amazing weight loss congratulations as regards treats try to see sugar as an addiction and root it out completely it is not easy as like any addiction you will go through withdrawal symptoms but the longer you go these will decrease .Sugar is everywhere but it is a seriously toxic substance and once you get rid of it completely you wont have to waste your time thinking about it again

kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYemZ6Jnn7qnepI I would very highly recommend watching this video, this guy is great and Lucy is right, calorie deficit is the number 1 factor in fat loss. So if your maintenance calories are 1700 calories and you eat in a deficit of 300 calories so you eat a total of 1400 calories a day, you can technically eat anything and still lose fat. There is no individual food that makes you store food. As long as you are in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight! That's why Lucy is right, you do not even need to exercise to lose fat. However, eating a diet of only high calorie processed foods is not practical because you wouldn't be able to eat enough to feel full and it doesn't provide your body with the right nutrients. So you can totally eat sweets and not feel guilty, you will not gain fat if you are within your total calories for the day. Sean Nalewanyj's videos really freed me to not feel guilty eating what I want, the only time I feel guilty is if I don't keep my calorie deficit but even if there are some days I still eat a tad more than I was supposed to, I just keep going and keep being consistent as Lucy says, and I have finally been losing fat while not being miserable. It doesn't mean I'm not hungry, I totally get super hungry while dieting but that is to be expected. We cannot expect to never be hungry while dieting and that's the biggest issue that I had. I would think I would need to "honor my hunger" and run to the fridge the moment I got hungry and then would wonder why I wouldn't lose weight even though I was "restricting" during meals but still, I was not in a deficit. If I was honest with myself, I was still eating too much. And after watching Sean's videos (also watch his 10 Fat loss mistakes video), I realized, I will be hungry but it's okay if I can reach my goal. A calorie deficit is temporary and once I reach my goal, I can eat more at my calorie maintenance level and never have to worry about gaining the weight back as long as I am mindful of how much I eat.

Tbh, I’m lost. I’ve been in a calorie deficit for weeks now, about 9 weeks actually. (Even calculated the calories in the beginning, now I don’t rly have to do that anymore) Nutrition has never been a problem for me, I’ve always eaten healthy and clean, recently started being completely vegan (used to be vegetarian), never had a problem with binging or controlling my food. For four weeks now I’ve been very consistent with exercising, (running, home workouts and weight training 5 times a week) Yet nothing has changed on the scale & I am starting to lose it. I have no idea what to do anymore & just completely don’t get how and why I haven’t lost any weight yet. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know Thank you

I think everyone knows these days that exercise is not the primary driver of fat loss. Or maybe I'm in the fitness bubble where everyone hates cardio. I do think the message people hear is "you don't have to exercise" or it's pointless except for mental health and I think that is completely wrong. If you want to lose primarily fat and not just overall weight which includes lean body mass, you need to be exercising, specifically some form of resistance training whether that is calisthenics or lifting external weight. This prevents drastic decrease in BMR. And low intensity activity through walking for example, absolutely raises your calorie expenditure and makes weight loss and maintenance super easy even if your deficit is not very large.

Exercise is important so you minimize muscle loss. And makes sure you're metabolism doesn't go back. If not exercise you will have to eat less and less to keep the weight off you have lost. But when you exercise you're weight gonna go down slower but size goes down faster. That's cause muscle is heavier than fat.
