I'm reading the book, I'm close to the end now, but what I remember is that this scene in this book is way more complex. She does not just try to make him think that she would give in to marrying him, but at the end she is so desperate that she goes as far as to propose to be his mistress, and because he laughs it out and does not comply she faints and is so humiliated for going so far and not getting the money. Book is way better.

In the book she doesn't faint out of humiliation, she faints because she starts screaming at Rhett and tries to lunge at him, Rhett puts his hand over her mouth and restrains her so as not to bring the guards down upon them, and that combined with her tight corset and the shock, makes her pass out.
