As a young tuba player, the first tune I figured out by ear was the tuba part to this. The year ahead of me got to play it in concert - sadly I never did, though we got to sight read it once, and boy howdy did I enjoy myself. Wouldn't trade that for nothing.

Saw this opera twice in 1947 at the Sadlers Wells theatre in London. Full of superb tunes, very spectacular and very funny. If only someone would revive it! ,
