I rebuilt heads for some years. And after the head was fully assembled and after your vacuum test I would use a rubber or rawhide Hammer and tap on the valve and retainer just to make sure the keepers where doing there job. Good video like your spring compressor

Hey Eric. I noticed that you install the valve stem seals before the valves are in the head. I have always installed the valve through the guide so that the plastic cap tool that used to come with the seals, could be placed over the valve stem groove to protect the seal during installation. I have noticed that new seals today do not come with the plastic tool. Some assemblers say to use scotch tape to cover the groove as they still desire to protect the seal during installation. The method you have shown here does not appear to be concerned with this issue. Everything else that you did here was exemplary, great job. I would recommend to at least leave the garter spring off of the seal until the valve stem was inserted through the guide to minimize the tightness of the seal as the stem passed through. If there is a reason that I am not aware of for not taking this precaution, please let me know. Thank you, Eric.

You remember the first vortec head. Every one would destroy parts instead of cutting the guide height

I've commented on a few of your posts. Im not against any of your work. I just feel some port can really be improved by opening up the seats if you can open up the ports aswell to that new size... But I have a question... I would love to send you a cummins 24v iron head. Sense the ports are all nearly perfectly identical id like to send you one that has several ported to the max (my comfortable max) and a standard port and stock. To see how they differ. But I works like to disk to you over the phone as I want to install similar sears but larger. And just as hard as the stick ones for longevity. These are particularly hard seats and if I can get larger seats put in that would be really awesome. If you can help me out that would be sweet lmk

Should start using valve seal hats. The one piece with the steel shim. Especially on a boost application the boost travels up the valve and pushes the valve seal up and they come apart and go thru the motor.
@WeingartnerRacing
@WeingartnerRacing 3 жыл бұрын
These seals do not come off easily. You must use a plier to pull them off. There is not enough amount of boost in the world to pull them off. I have customers using these on motors with 30lbs of boost no problems. Above that they don’t run a seal because they only run for the pull and that’s it. Also methanol.

Do you do porting on Ford modular heads like the TFS 195cc 2v. Just found this channel and subbed.. lots of good info.

Most don't have a vacuum tester so just lay the head down and inject fuel injector cleaner into the chambers and let them sit. If you have any leaks, you will find them in the intakes and exhaust ports. Get fancy, and you can check your chamber volumes at the same time. I also like to give the valves a tap with a wooden mallet to make sure the keepers are seated and doing their job. Some great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Did I miss where you need to also take the thickness of the spring locater into the formula? Also when ordering spring locaters do you just need to know the guide width and pocket width? In couldn't tell if it is actually the exact size of inside diameter of inner spring

Great video very informative please keep them comming on a side note have you thought of putting the seal spring on after instaling the valve to lessen the chance of the keeper groove damaging the seal. But great video and you do great work keep it up thankyou.

Why were you shooting for 265lbs. seat pressure? Does the cam you chose require it?
@genelong1748
@genelong1748 3 жыл бұрын
Valve spring pressure is directly related to the operating rpm of the engines camshaft, that's why you buy a cam kit.
@KingJT80
@KingJT80 3 жыл бұрын
@@genelong1748 and in a lot of cases the kits are too light Now if you look in comp cams with 242/248 duration aka a xr294hr hydro roller sbc cam calls for a 987-16 That spring is around 125-135 on the seat and 340+ open I can tell you that will not hold up to that rpm range of that cam Case in point AFRs standard hydro roller springs are for up to 6500 rpm and the option is to go higher to the 150 seat pressure and 420+ open pressure if you run a cam duration more than 235°@ .050

Nice video! Feel kinda stupid not using assembly grease on the locks 🤦‍♂️ Only a couple things I do differently: -Deburr all sharp edges -Work oil return path, install screens -Use gloves on final assembly (heard of stuff in skin creating problems, actually Billy Godbold just told a story bout seeing that under a microscope on failure analysis, figure doesn't hurt/assemetric 🤷‍♂️) -I'm weird so I line up and evenly space the locks all the same -Used to use Clevite, then went to Royal Purple, now I use Driven Joe Gibbs stuff -Also will check seat pattern as well as vacuum test
