I love that you read us some passages. Too often a book sounds interesting, but you can’t get past the first few pages because the author’s style puts you off immediately. And vice versa-I wasn’t interested in Walking Practice, but the alien seems so charming 🤗

That's exactly why I do it! ! I love annotating my books, too, so it's rly fun to pick which excerpts to read ( •ᴗ•)

The Hike is unlike anything I've ever read, and has one of my favorite endings of all time. Also liked Little Eyes, and I think most of these are on my TBR--except for In Praise of the Stepmother. I've never heard of it until now but that quote you shared! Gonna see if I can find a copy. :)

I also loved the ending. Glad I could recommend a new one for you and hope you like it. Hopefully I'll have more new recs for you in part 2 of this series (˶ᐢᗜᐢ˶)

I have Walking Practice on my TBR from one of the last times you've mentioned it, but I'm bumping it further to the top of my pile cuz it sounds so fun and odd and interesting. I've added a few extra ones from this video too. Thanks for sharing the weird! 🙌🎉 I appreciate you videos so much.

Honestly, discussing it in this video has made me want to reread it so I might. Thanks for being here (^ᴗ^)

That quote from The Hike about depression . . . damn. It's spot on. I need to read that book.

Tampa: "When her head swiveled my way I could almost hear the grinding sound of a long standing boulder being moved." Tampa, The First Bad Man, Hawk Mountain, Little Eyes, Garden......I'm sure there are more books you've recommended that I've read and now and I am in need of therapy 5 days a week.. ...but in a good way. I just finished The First Day of Spring (Nancy Tucker) which was 5 stars and I'm currently reading My Husband (Maud Ventura).Great so far . You are the best.

Haha glad I'm keeping your therapist in business. I'll have to check out that Nancy Tucker one. I finished My Husband a few weeks ago and am hoping to talk about it in my next wrap up. \(ü)/

Going to physical bookshops to buy this kind of lit it's a humbling (and funny)experience fr. As soon as I told this very nice old man the title I was looking for,he looked at me in an unreadable way and went into a 5 min speech about how he knew the author and hadn't been able to finish another book of his.Very disturbing,he kept saying,VERY. After he handed me the bag he said ,very dramatically: "let me know if you make it,good luck",as if I was going to war or something.Bless him 😂

I hated Tampa. I was hoping at least for some nuance. It was just like "hahaha I'm so evil and I love children!!" It was trying to hit you over the head constantly, and honestly was unrealistic as far as why female teachers sometimes go after their students. Like literally no motive other than being hypersexual for no reason
@superblomper5 ай бұрын
That's a fair point. I am a sucker for an over-the-top evil character, so I am a lil biased. I'd say a more nuanced discussion of a predatory teacher-student relationship was My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russel, if you're interested ( •ᴗ•)
