I'm glad you mentioned Glen Turner as a #4. He still gets mentioned in NZ all-time sides simply because his versatility, he changed our batting attitude almost singlehandedly, much like Hadlee showed we could produce a class bowler as well.

That Irfan Pathan reference had me wondering about players born into the the wrong era.It may be streching it for Irfan but had his career been 10 years later he would have been worth 15 crores in ipl..and prolly would have added a lot more caps for india as well..a left arm pace bowling allrounder , could have been a mainstay for years

God damn it, this is such a genius idea I'm angry for not thinking of it first! And yeah, Vinoo Mankad would've dominated T20. He scored a hundred at nearly run-a-ball opening the batting at the MCG after bowling 37 overs in the Australian innings.

Ryan Campbell, the Australian wicketkeeper who played twice in ODI's, would have killed it in T20. He could bat, and bat fast, but unfortunately existed at the same time as Gilly and Healy. But this guy was playing scoops and helicopter shots in the 90's before they were a thing. He was basically a time traveller who existed in the worst possible time for his craft, only to have T20 come in literally as he was retiring. Hell, I feel like Jarrod has even written about him before.

Derek Randall, Dennis Amiss, Bob Woolmer ( A real thinker), I was there when Glenn Turner scored 300 against Warwicks so he gets in. There was a guy from the 50's called Darren Stevens that still would be useful, Colin Milburn, Dipak Patel, Basil D'Oliviera (no Worcester bias here), Mitchell (not the NZ imposter, but the real deal from, yes you guessed it, Worcestershire) Simon Waters as wicket keeper ( A vastly underrated player) and I need a bowler. David Capel anybody?
@DayDreamHeros2 жыл бұрын
I would have included both Bobby Simpson and Neil Harvey. Neil was the better batsman, yet Bob could bowl very useful leg spin, even getting a test 5 for. But most importantly both were regarded as gun fielders, In particular Neil Harvey was supposed to have the best throwing arm in the world at that particular time due to the fact that he also played semi pro baseball. If you have taken the time to read this comment, I'd like to here your thoughts. Have a nice day :)

At three you've got a great stroke player who can also bowl useful left-arm wristies (and a dream for the marketers), and at four someone who can rebuild or score freely. A great fielder and under-rated batsman at five, followed by a powerful left-hander and left-arm seamer, then a leg-spinning all-rounder, a brilliant fast swing bowler, one of the greatest fast spinners, a fictional character whose droppers could cause havoc, and the greatest wicket-keeper with the least batting talent rounding out the tail. I think this team could take almost any other dull, weird, historical T20 XIs

Speaking of players that open both innings, what makes Sunil Narine so special that he became an opening batsman and bowler?
@serg93202 жыл бұрын
He's a tall muscular mystery spinner. His main quality is that he can bowl really well, but the fact that he has the power to occasionally smash sixes while still being a throwaway wicket is why he opens the batting. He averages 15 in T20s, but the fact that he does it at a strike rate of over 150 means that whatever few balls he does play is worth it. Even if he's inconsistent, he will only ever face a half dozen balls on average.

I reckon if you had to name an old South African cricketer who could have been a good T20 cricketer were they around today, I'd go with Jim Sinclair. 25 Tests from 1896-1911, stood 6'4", bowled right arm legit pace and was at times SA's 2nd-best batsman slogging right-handed at an incredible strike rate for the time.
