What were the substitute lands for the expensive ones? I couldn't understand.

You could easily swap all the lands for 4 Steam Vents and 7 Basis Islands. Test it around there and if you still feel like your not getting the right colors you could add 1 or 2 City of Brass or Gemstone Mine. You could also go 4 City of Brass and 4 Gemstone Mines with the rest being basic Islands.

Table Top Magic You can also add even more budgetish lands like Shivan Reef if you plan to not including fetch lands.
