As an animal nerd, and a science teacher I love your videos and am so glad the entire NERD crew is sharing their knowledge with us of all their different animals, reptiles, and insects! As a mom of a preteen who also is a lover of reptiles and your videos .. I’m begging loudly “PLEASE CLEAN UP YOUR LANGUAGE! “. Great work capturing everything N.E.R.D and the advice to educate the community. I no longer live feed because of Kevin. Waaaay back when I had a Eastern King, he got bit in the eye while feeding a live rat. Cost my parents several hundred dollars for his care. He did recover fully but refused to eat for almost a year. I then had to force small rats half way into his mouth before he would finally eat on his own.

At least you know how to stop Kevin in his tracks when he's having a rager, just mention his dm's and who's slid into them. He does look super sweet when he's shy though 😂😂 I agree with him on live feeding. Even with the educational intention of life feeding to show how a snakes behaviour for feeding response, it will always be picked up by folk using it for less than educational purposes. It's a shame people will see the reptile channel and think that's normal, it isn't but how do you convince people it's a vote channel if they have no real knowledge of reptiles and keeping them. Will be hard to eradicate as the people uploading them will argue it's educational to non reptile keepers. To think channels get taken down for far less yet a known vore channel can still post. It's crazy and misrepresenting the community xxx

I completely agree with Kevin regards the 'live feeding' videos. I see no benefit to the hobby whatsoever from these kinds of videos. That doesn't mean I've anything against feeding live, sometimes it's a necessity. I know people say "it's nature" and "this is what happens in the wild" but in reality, this isn't nature. These snakes are not in the 'wild', they're captive born, raised in tubs or vivs whereby the prey has no realistic chance of escape as it does in the wild, especially when held in the grip of tongs and dangled in the snake's face.

As someone who's been terrified of snakes most of my life, the live feedings are not something I enjoy at all. I can handle them most of the time, but I'm just not at that level with them yet, and even when I am ok with watching them fees, I can't imagine enjoying it. Surprisingly, youtube has done wonders in helping me with the whole snake fear. Well, I should say people that show snakes how they really are have helped me. It's crazy to think that without people giving me this information and showing me what they're really about, I'd still have the mindset I had before. It's such an amazing thing to be able to unravel someone's intense life-long fears, but they're doing it. It blows my mind.

I don't like the live feedings but it can be extremely educational and helpful to watch a live feedings and to see how people do the live feedings. It can be helpful to prepare you for the real thing if you have a snake or reptile who wont go for frozen thawed.

I don't like live feedings either. On one channel it's all about the strike and how fast the rodent dies!

I've posted pics and videos of my snakes eating on fb before. However, I usually wait until after the snake is constricting, or is in the process of eating. Mostly because the strike is violent, and screams of the rodent are traumatic to hear. I dont enjoy feeding live, depending on the size of the rodent I will pre-kill or stun the rodent myself, which again is a violent and unpleasant thing to do let alone witness. I do not enjoy that aspect of feeding my snakes, I enjoy my snakes eating because then I know they are fed. And most of the time when people want to watch a snake eat they are more curious how it swallows food without hands, than how they kill their prey

I totally will NOT watch a live snake feeding !! I've invested MANY years trying to discourage snake keepers from offering their snakes live feeders because it's not necessary at all and the risk to the snakes is VERY concerning !! Over the years I've seen snakes virtually mutilated by big rat feeders and there is NO WAY I could EVER support that sort of behavior from people that proclaim that they love their snakes !! Sorry about the vent one of my topics that always sets me off !! :( I forgot to add that I can accept live feedings that are closely supervised for baby snakes just to get their feeding aggression more advanced but even those snakes should be switched over once they are established eating independently.
