I grew up on a ranch and farm around a lot of different animals as well I've always had reptiles and Kevin is 100% correct, confidence is paramount when handling most animals. Not just confidence in yourself but confidence in the needs and behaviors of each individual animal you are in charge of the care for. That being said Kevin is a naturally gifted person when it comes to animals, I'm not taking away from the many years of experience and hard work just stating an observation as someone who has been around animals my entire life. One can learn vast amounts of amazing information from Kevin so pay attention if you want to get better at handling your animals. The only other person I've seen who is as gifted as Kevin was Steve Irwin, he had that ability to calm animals down as well.

Great vid guys, back in 2005 when I was at nerd kevin and andy tought me that very trick of turning and elevating defensive retics above your head. We as the handler have so much involvement in the overall experience between us and snake!

I think what you were referring to in terms of magic is the difference between experience and skill. People can do something repetitively and get it done but never truly do it the "perfect" way so no matter how many times they do it they are still just doing an average job. Those with magic take something new from every single time they do something, whether it's something they did wrong, something they improved or something that may work better next time it's a constant learning process. That's where the magic comes in, getting into the minutiae of whatever it is you're doing. I love these videos, it's great to see Kevin in teacher mode and you can tell by how the guys react to him (particularly Giani) that they are grateful to have tuition from someone with magic. Also, Moo is absolutely gorgeous! More videos like this please!

I love these videos because even though I have never owned a snake I am starting to see little bits of what Kevin is talking about in the animals in your videos and others and am able to connect the body language/behaviour to the reason for the behaviour. Initially I thought the video was a bit 'clunky' but then I realised Donny must've been using his new gimbal setup so that'll improve once he's got that shit figured out. I actually started utilising the twirling technique a few months back with my carpet python cos she's very reactive and super food responsive. It's surprising just how much she calms down.

I would love to see you and Brian go on that big trip to either Africa or Australia. The two of you would be comincal and educational at same time. Plus you get to go on a really cool adventure. I also think it would be really cool for you to release an educational video from start to finish on how to socialize specific hard to train reptiles such as retics, monitors, tree boas and so on. I think it would make a killing in the reptile community not only with the breeders but with pet owners. I have heard a few pet tubers like Nolan mention you and your methods of socializing monitors. It is so amazing that Kevin mentioned people who are really good with horses. I was just comparing Kevin's abilities with snakes with some peoples abilities with horses. I am a firm believer that some people are just born with the skill of understanding certain animals. I think most people can learn, but some people are just innately gifted. My mom is one of those horse people who just understands them. She loves horses & she has been around them her whole life, teaching kids how to ride & take care of their horses. Its like the horse is talking to her, she just understands their body language & she can read them very accurately, kind of like how Kevin can understand the snake's body language. Kevin is innately gifted with snakes. I was not gifted with the art of understanding animals like that. So I think it is really cool to learn from people who do. I suppose, house cats really like me? When i have positive interactions with her it’s one of the best feelings, so I can’t thank you enough. Will Moo teach that female to calm down? I absolutely loved this video! The teacher's method of giving important information in the form of details that I have never heard but could see is fantastic. I loved how calm and encouraging he is towards his student and would appreciate it if I could get his contact. I do have an special connection with all types of snakes. Unfortunately in my country we are not allowed to interact with any (I do support this law to an extent.) Last Sunday I went to my very first ReptCon, and I was in heaven. My Piebald retic was a terror when I first got her, ‘touch me you die’, ’get near me you die’ and ’you’re looking at me, come closer you die’, it took a couple of months for her to stop with the biting and pissing everywhere when picking her up, but well with sticking with working with her. I definitely didn’t want that attitude when she gets big enough to cause some pain and damage to me.

Hi Kevin You are right about telling what kind of mood an animal. I used to work at a vet's clinic. I worked in the back, and I took care of the animals. So I had to learn their moods, so i did not get bitten by dogs, or cats. A snake came in that was badly bitten by a rat. No one wanted to touch it, so i handled it, and treated it's wounds. I like snakes, and it was healed. Cindy

I think pie BP are more nervous snakes too I think it’s something to do with the pie. My pie is always nervous acting he use to hiss and strike constantly but I been working with him and he seems a little better but he still has that defense pose all the time. Got a question.... New to owning retic's... got a 2 week old baby retic atm, Just had its first meal... the question is: My retic is a 25% dwarf retic...... Does that mean, Its a drawf retic that will only grow to around 25% of their usual size? Or does that mean, its only 25% dwarf, 75% normal, therefor, will grow to around 75% of the usual size of a retic?!?! I ask because, My baby retic... Is very small... Smaller than the baby retic shown in this video at 2:05... cheers
