Weird creature caught in homemade fish trap

Might be an Asian Swamp Eel. I didn't see a dorsal fin on that one and I believe that is the difference between them and American eels.

Haha yeah buddy, that was an eel. Don't know what kind but we used to catch them once in awhile on the river I grew up fishing when we were kids. It wasn't the right thing to do, but as kids when we hooked into, we used to smash them on the rocks to kill them and get them off the hook cause they were too slippery and slithery to touch

Skin, clean, cut in bite size pieces then soak in mud....yes mud...for 4 hours. When fully soaked....throw away eel and eat the mud
