Weird GR Supra features and service intervals, what I found out from the dealership.

If you don't want to follow your 10K, 20K, and 30K (oil change) service intervals you can bring you car in early. Just be prepared to pay for oil changes after the 30K service interval has been completed.

Another thing to watch with the battery is that when the car unlocks it'll turn on and stay on until the car is locked with no one inside it by default. There's a setting that turns it off when the door is opened and it knows no one is inside the vehicle which is very handy if you leave it in your garage unlocked. My Supra was a showroom and of course that meant that many people went in and the car was left unlocked so I had a "Battery needs to be replaced" status indictor. This message doesn't disappear unless the battery has been charged and re-registered with the ECU. The salesman just told me to drive it a bit and see if it'll vanish but it doesn't work like a normal car like that. After about 200miles I took it in for service and had to schedule when the "Supra specialist" (guy who got BMW training) was working so had to wait a few days. After dropping the car off it took only a couple hours for it to complete.

Good to know about the free oil changes cycle. I recently took my car to the dealer for an oil change after the break in elapsed. It was free. However, they told me that I had to pay for the next ones! 🤔 I just have about 2,500 miles on the odometer.

I’m not sure if the “3” free oil changes are the same from dealer to dealer. That’s what I was told from my dealership.

0W-20 is fine, but it's also kind of like water. 5W-30 Liqui Moly is the better option (less burning, but it doesn't matter). Plus that bmw filter is easy to get for like $9-10 from your local dealer. Just do it at home in like 15-30 mins if that.

As a supra owner I think its crazy to change the oil this much. Its a commonly found BMW motor that is designed to be driven everyday. Really doubt your really seeing any benefit to changing it this early unless your tracking often. But the battery is something I will keep in mind.

Mike, All good points but I'm worried about the performance of 0W-20 oil during the summer months. I think it might be too thin for spirited driving in the summer months.

Have you had any oil consumption problems ? I have a 2021 3.0 Prem that I bought late March. It has about 3200 miles on it. I do drive almost daily , I did a 1300 mile oil change myself in my shop using the Toyota oil Supra filter and Amsoil 0W20 . I have used Amsoil for a very long time and not had any issues on any other cars and trucks I have. Anyway the Supra has not been raced or really driven hard for the entire time. It has not reached the min level yet but has been moving down slowly. I called the Toyota dealer I purchased from and talked to a tech there, they have no one trained there on the Supra's. They want to keep the car all day to check it out and to be quite honest it is basically a Z4 and I'm am a bit nervous about leaving it but it has the warranty .If your wondering I live in the Midwest and not far from the dealership I bought it from.

I bought my car in December of 2019. The first B58’s have been solid in reliability from what I have heard. The 2021’s do have some degree of oil burning issues and I have heard of a couple 2021 owners having their Supra’s stay at the dealership for further diagnostics. I’m thinking it’s the new pistons and piston rings that is causing the issue. The 2021’s have a lower compression ratio and run higher boost levels.

@@Singha_Garage That's what I've been hearing also... I also watch " The Car Care Nut " KZbin channel. But only after I bought the car . I'm almost 61 years old and planned for this to be my last Performance " New Car " buy. I was considering a Mustang Mach I or a GT350 with low miles , But having had a 1987 Supra MK3 turbo and remembering the fun with it I had I dropped by a dealer ( after I had watched several KZbin channels , Including your own ) and purchased it. Love the car tho. I already have had or still own a bunch of mustangs ( still have a Cobra and Saleen version. ) so I decided to buy the 2021 version with the new head and lower compression. I figured that they had gotten the bugs worked out. Well I guess I'll see.. I'll subscribe and let you know how it turns out. I'm a Vet too ,spent time in Kuwait and Iraq but as a civilian trucker. Can you do a home oil change on this car? $174 for an oil change is a bit much. I have done my oil changes at home for 40 years, only cost about $20 Having a plastic car ranp makes life very simple.

You can change your oil at home. With the B58 being a BMW engine I take it to the dealership to show a track record of maintenance for warranty issues. Not that it matters but the Supra has Gazoo Racing specific 0W-20 oil.

I bought a 2020 Supra and do two oil changes a year in my driveway whether it needs it or not. Mann Filter HU 6022 Z oil filter and any good quality 0w-20 oil. You’ll need a low profile jack - there’s a jack point under the front of the car a little in front of the oil drain plug. It’s an easy job…and way cheaper than $170 (insane!) if you do it yourself.

Actually the "ToyotaCare" is 2 years or 25,000 miles whichever comes first. You also get 24 hour roadside assistance for 2 years and thats with unlimited miles.

0/20W living here in Arizona after 10K in 115% + in the summer the oil would be water. I like the car but the whole battery thing is making me rethink it be in the middle of nowhere and it goes bad your screwed AAA wont have that battery and could not program it any ways and just to think of the cost of that battery from BMW you cant get it from a auto store. Watched a vid from a Toyota tech to reset the battery it has to be a Toyota scan unit BMWs wont work even though its a BMW.

I know a few Supra owners in Kuwait via Instagram. I wonder what oil they are using? If you drive the Supra once a week the battery shouldn’t be an issue. My daily is a Highlander and the longest I let the Supra sit was two weeks, it almost didn’t crank 🤣 Having one of those portable jump start kits wouldn’t be a bad idea, just remember the trunk latch doesn’t work if the car doesn’t have battery power 🤣

@@cindysue5474 you have to disconnect the battery terminal for safety reasons when you take out the airbag for installing new paddle shifters or steering wheel. I put a towel over the latch for the hatch 🤣
