You'll never go back to 4 cylinder turbos ever after getting into 6 cylinder turbos. I had a1998 Eclipse GSX, owned it since new, and owned it for 13 years. During the 13 years, I had a 16G turbo upgrade kit that only made 330whp on stock block. Did not want to push it too much on stock block. I sold eclipse, and saved up, bought a house, refinanced the house and then cashed out a 2017 BMW M2. After nearly 8 years later now, I've only put 12k miles on the OG M2. I'm still loving my M2.
@VinceChristmastreeАй бұрын
Damn, in half of the time you owned the GSX, I've had like 5 Subarus. I'll probably end up buying another one later (idk I'm a masochist) and will probably just do FBO E85 on stock turbo. Just does not make sense to have a big power 4 cylinder and then this car. Wow though, 8 years with the M2. Definitely drive that thing more :)

Awesome video and I agree with you on so many points about this car, I'm coming from an FA20 based WRX that I went Full bolt ons and running a full E85 flexfuel tune, you know the usual dyno at 375whp 350wtq. I have done all my mods and maintenance in my garage, and watching maintenance and modifications on the Supra really amazes me at how much easier and better results you get from working on that B58. I can not even remember the last time my WRX ran properly, I would always have oil consumption issues on and off again, running super rich almost all the time, constant check engine lights, constant fixing my car at home, constant worrying about police and California state ref tickets, constant just worrying about my car breaking down. It was great fun but I was shocked to race a stock 3.0 supra, really put a reality check on me. Few months ago, I had a valve spring suddenly explode and send shrapnel all throughout my motor, chipped my pistons couldn't hold compression and just broke down on the freeway. I love Subaru, but I am just so over it, dealing with so many problems to have a fast car. I wish I had considered a supra or a b58 based platform 4 years ago when I got my WRX brand new. Anyways, rebuilding the motor, looking to sell, and for sure looking for a used 3.0. I test drove a 3.0 and it blew me away, the cabin size is so small, the way the car feels when you accelerate and watching the nose of the car lift up, and the ZF8 transmission shifts so fast that I don't even think I will miss driving manual. I love it, its such a huge change from the WRX, I can not wait to get into one.
@VinceChristmastree4 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch! Sorry to hear about your WRX and all the issues you've been having. I do share the sentiment though because as much as I loved the Subarus I've owned, there was always something up with them, whether it was user error or not. Eventually got tired of it and moved to the FK8 Type R which I had for about 9 months which I then sold for the Supra. I remember thinking to myself "where has this been all of my life" when I test drove this exact car. If you daily the car, I would recommend the ZF8 as it's awesome with daily duties. There's a good reason why they put this transmission in so many cars, it's that good. Definitely try out a manual Supra if you get a chance, I wouldn't say it's as good as an STI transmission or the FK8, but it's better than the WRX and pairs really well with the B58. Can't go wrong with either route, but I hope you're able to jump into one soon!
@INEEDTOBEALONE10063 ай бұрын
@@VinceChristmastree It has been awesome, I test drove a manual one, I had a blast, but I could not justify a 10k difference for the only few ones in my area. Then I test drove a couple of automatic ones as well as a 2022 M340i. I really knew I wanted the automatic one and so finally got my hands on a 2021 premium as the second owner for the price I wanted. For now I do not want to be modding and going FBO and crazy E85 like I did with the WRX so I was okay with a locked ECU (maybe just a downpipe for sound) but I know the mod bug is gonna get me eventually. I absolutely love this freaking car. Such a rowdy car, I love the size of it even for being 6ft tall I fit perfect. I love the technology and I’m almost certain this is going to be a keeper car for the years to come. Watching a lot of your videos with your supra and your fellow supras in your area makes me feel like I made a truly satisfying purchase too. Thank you!!

I know what you mean about people wanting to race. When I was driving home in my 2024 45th Mikan Blast from the dealership, a guy in a very loud Charger pulled up next to me on the highway, and then blasted off. My car has a dealer-applied temporary plate in the back, so people should know I'm breaking it in. Today, two guys in a Sonata N flew by then slowed down with their windows down so that I'd slowly pass them. Now if I weren't breaking in the engine, I'd probably blast by and then coast back to cruising speed.

Very nice car man! I’m on the fence of trading in my 22’ Lexus IS 350 F Sport for a Supra. I’ve modded it to perfection, but I’m honestly missing the performance aspect. It’s decently fast but it gets zero attention which is crazy considering how good it looks. Perhaps it just had to do with where I live. What’s the maintenance been like for this car? Do you take it to the dealer to get worked on? Wondering if that’ll be an issue for me to have regular maintenance done to the car. If I were to get one, I’d daily it. Would your recommendation be to get the 2020 year? I’ve heard about some of them burning oil and that slightly worries me. Thanks man!
@VinceChristmastree3 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! Thank you! I do love how the new IS' look, very sleek and does not get the attention it deserves. I think it does look better than competitors including the BMW 3-series. Maintenance has just been your usual oil changes and other fluid changes. Of course change pads and other stuff as needed. Nothing really out of the ordinary from a regular commuter car surprisingly. This car will never see the dealer (except one time due to electrical stuff). I usually do my own work or take it to a local shop near me (@iautowork in DFW). If you plan on just keeping it stock performance-wise, then you should be fine. 2020s if you do not want to go pay to have your ECU shipped out to be able to modify it. There are some unicorn 2021s that can be tuned, but they are very very rare. The oil burning issue as far as I'm aware was limited to some 2021s.

The B58 is really fun paired with a manual. I highly recommend test driving one if you can. If you add a downpipe or intake, you can run the stock tune whether it's catless or catted. However, if you plan on adding anything else, it's definitely recommended. I'm not super familiar with the 4B11 platform, but I know some 4 cylinder platforms need to be tuned for every little change that is made.

People's obsession with mileage on vehicles anymore dates back to older vehicles from the 70s and 80s, 90s where a car that had 100k miles was pretty much considered toast. Meanwhile, today's Vehicles, 50,000 - 100,000 miles, the car is coming alive. Drive it!

I didn't know that! Thanks for the information! Completely agree with driving it, I always encourage fellow Supra or just sports cars owners to drive their cars and they'll last as long as you take care of it.

PPF seems like such a waste for me, $5k to do the car when I can respray the car professionally for $3k. Even just the front bumper for my strat blue mk5 was quoted $1100 for PPF when a respray is $400 (I'll have to do the labor and take off the sensors). Just a hard justification in my opinion.
@VinceChristmastree Жыл бұрын
Agree to disagree. Definitely understand where you're coming from though. Personally, going down this path, I would rather have the original paint and not have downtime to respray the bumper. I'm pretty anal when it comes to the paint so I don't even want to run into the issue of the bumper being a different shade than the car. Right now here's what I have to deal with, either I have to find a replacement bumper ($600-700) or take my front bumper off. I really won't be able to drive the car without the car freaking out so it'll be down for a week or so to get resprayed, which is a no-go considering it's my daily driver. Repainting the bumper requires the paint to cure which is dependent on the temps outside, so 30-90 days. At that point, just with the time and potential downtime, the cost of PPF is justified.

I think ppf is valid, if you only want to protect your front. Genuinely it’s a car on the road and driven a lot.. protecting the whole thing is a waste.. but having your front bumper and carbon fiber secured that’s smart because over time carbon fades from the uv rays so protecting a carbon hood/lip/front bumper is pretty much all you needs don’t go too all our only protect the parts that are revealed the most from the front.

Vince, been watching your videos for a while when I was making 65k a year. told myself I would buy it when I make 6 figures, now I am and am still worried, I dont know why. My career has a lot of room for growth in terms of salary and is stable IMO. I know you aren't a financial advisor, but my situation is hard to figure out. Currently 22, and take home 6k/month after taxes, 401k, etc. fixed expenses would be roughly 1-1.5k a month leaving me with 4k/month as a even estimate. I have enough to buy a used Supra if its around 50k, but am scared of ones with 10-20k miles as I don't know how maintained it was, if it was beaten on, had a good first 500-1k miles before hard pushing, etc. I'd look for a 2020 because I want it unlocked so I can control the burbles and that's about it. I know this is not a lot of information to work with but what would you do? any advice is appreciated.
@VinceChristmastree4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the support man! It's a big purchase regardless of how much you make so I understand. Getting a used car definitely has its pros and cons. Burbles is possible with all of the tuning options so go with one that fits your budget, whether it's EcuTek, BM3, MHD+, etc. On EcuTek and I believe BM3, your tuner can enable the controls for burbles. I am going to do another buyer's guide for the Supra, but I would say get the CarFax, do an independent PPI on the car you're looking at and make sure that they note if the car was returned to stock and if you want to be extra cautious, see how many times the ECU has been flashed, do a compression/leakdown test to make sure the motor is healthy. Hope this helps!

@GNoahY4 ай бұрын
@@VinceChristmastree But in terms of getting an independent PPI, ensuring the ECU hasn't been flashed a lot, and compression/leakdown tests, this would have to be done from a reputable shop, nothing that Toyota Dealership can really do right?

I appreciate it! Probably going to reach the 100k mile mark by probably February or March of next year. Yeah, definitely choose a reputable shop. @VinceChristmastree Жыл бұрын
Sorry, just saw this. Not a professional by any means, but from my standpoint as an enthusiast, an aftermarket stock location turbo will be your best bet. Adding port injection and flex fuel will definitely get you there. For 500whp, all you will really need is a downpipe and E50 tune since the stock turbo will get you there. Anything past 550whp, you will need to look into a bigger stock location turbo. To hit 700, you'll need fueling (PI and E70).

Thanks for watching! I am not a financial advisor by any means as I am just some guy on the internet. I would say is find your footing first financially with your career job so you are not financially strained when moving up to a role that fits more what you're wanting to do with your life. You don't want to be stuck with this type of car and its expenses if you're just working a random job. Even if you find a Supra in the price range you want, that has a reasonable interest rate (if financing), the consumables for this car is pricey. I don't remember if I mentioned it in this video, but a full set of tires for this car can be upwards of almost $1400-1500. The rears only which I change out every year is about $800-900. I would say wait, save up, build a foundation for what you're going to do in your life, then pull the trigger.

@VinceChristmastree Жыл бұрын
@@whitemtl370 Honestly, just driving for a bit will warm them up. Not a lot of cornering experience sadly. Choices are extremely limited here in OK/TX. No backroads that we can utilize that are plentiful like in the East or PNW. I've read that Advan AD09s or R888s handle well in corners. The R888s are LOUD though and need adequate warming up to really get grip.
