I just saw a Singaporean man running after a school girl (foreign Caucasian student) with her bag as she left it in her seat and walked away, until the girl turned around and told the man that she is coming back and the man helped put the bag back onto her seat! As a singaporean, I’m kinda of feeling the pride with our honest culture 😊

The tissue paper selling by the "aunties/uncles" etc is not exactly a government system. It just evolved somehow. Also it keeps cost low for the stall owners. It's the same if you visit Malaysia or other countries in the region. There are certain group of people who will just take more of the item as it is provided free to them. They are supposed to have a license to sell legally from the government. Most of them do not. Most locals just buy them in bulk from supermarkets that cost like 20 cents a pack. I do sometimes "buy" from them if I see the person genuinely needs help.

Never liked the culture that tissues are not provided. Since we now have tray return policy, wouldn't it be great as well if tissues are provided so that we can clean the table. And no, don't think the government has a hand in it. It's just a cultural thing.

How's any of it weird? Carrying umbrella everywhere is uncommon? How about the Englishman with his umbrella everywhere? My dumb friend "marked" his hawker seat with his iPad. It was gone in record time. Singapore has her own way of doing things. That doesn't make us weird hor.
