Weird HP color Laserjet CP2025 problem

The printer prints 1/2 pages just fine when it has been switched off overnight. After about 2 pages it goes into an endless clicking cycle without any error messages. The pick up roller is not even trying to pick up paper anymore(standing still) . The manual feeder does the same. DC controller was already replaced. The printer is old of course but has only printed 110 pages in total! If it manages to print 3 pages then either the colors are missing on the pages or one single vague line is printed on top of the page. After that it's the end until the next morning.

I truly appreciate you for posting this video which clearly shows the identical problem my printer was experiencing. With the time consuming yet inexpensive (aka "FREE") fix mentioned numerous times in the comments, I am hopeful that I can now get another 10 years out of my favorite printer. Placing a small strip of paper (1 cm x 4 cm) folded into a V shape between the two metal plates worked perfectly! 🎉

Read further for excellent descriptions of how to locate the sticking solenoid- I used the Dremel tool to cut out the plastic area immediately to the right of the two spinning gears. Then you can clearly see the solenoid and where to make the repair.

I had the same issue with my CM20320fxi mfp. I just fixed it with a piece of paper. In your video it shows 2 white plastic gears spinning at the top right side. Immediately next to it is a solenoid. If you take a screwdriver and push the solenoid arm closed you'll notice it sticks for a moment when you let go. This is the foam bumper HP used to quiet the operation of this solenoid. These wear down to the adhesive and make it stick in the closed position too long and this is causing the machine to get stuck in an initialization cycle that wont' stop. Simply cut a long strip of paper and slip it between the solenoid base where the foam bumper is and the solenoid arm. Then use a long screwdriver to push the arm against the solenoid and either tear or cut the excess paper strip as close to the solenoid as you can. Then release the solenoid arm and you'll notice it goes freely back into the open position. Try it a couple times to be sure. If it still feels like its sticking, try another paper strip. This simple process fixed my printer and saved a ton of time by not having to tear the whole machine down to reach that faulty part.

@@pingoen try to find the service manuals... mine i look and after a time send files to print i figured out where is the selenoid. or just google you printer model + solenoid in google images... it is not that hard... mine i also changed the pickuproller

Osvaldo Camarillo and others are correct. If you are looking at the printer from the front, on the right side to the rear, at the top, there is one motor on a circuit board, the fuser motor. Just to the left side of it and looking down in a recessed area, you can barely see a solenoid. There is one screw holding it, but getting the solenoid out without removing other components first is difficult. Now that I know where the solenoid is, I can see the top of the solenoid in the video. At 34 seconds into the video, you can see a yellow wire to the left of the fuser motor, to the left front of this wire is a screw head. That is the solenoid mounting screw. I did not remove the solenoid, just unscrewed it to get a little better access. I scrapped away the gummed up damper material, and then stuck a small piece of painters tape on the solenoid arm where the removed gummed up material was. I used a small flat blade screw driver, and an angled tweezer to place the tape in place. The printer started to work again. The print quality is like new. Thank you all or helping me get my printer working again, especially Edo for the original post.

It is the clutch solenoid. You can remove the old "foam" from it. It make it stick and not return to place. It is located on the top, near the fuser.

The solution proposed by 'g3 Garage' worked for me. The solenoid is the black object next to the gears, and the arm is a hook-shaped object that is chrome-plated, which engages with the smoothest part of the gear assembly. There is a sticky gum between the hook arm and a chromed plate on the solenoid. There was definitely a delay when I held the hook arm against the plate for a couple seconds and then released it. I tried to scrape out the gum with an exacto blade, but was unsuccessful. I then placed two one-half inch wide strips of paper in the gap between the plate and the arm. One stuck to the hook arm, the other to the solenoid plate, but they do not to each other. Worked perfectly then, and it is printing like new. THANK YOU!

I have exactly the same problem with TWO of my CM2320 printers, which are not identical to CP2025, but internally very similar to CP2050. I changed the paper pickup roller sets, but the problem continues. As the paper is not fed even from the front door, would it be possible that the "Paper feeder pre-registration sensor: depicted as SR1 in the service manual" was compromised? If you have found a fix or even probable leads, please share with us.

Same problem here. I have a CM2320fxi. Have had the pickup rollers and separation rollers (trays 2 and 3) replaced. The problem seemed to subside for a period (3-4 months). But now it has raised its head again. Appreciate any further insights . . . . or hopefully a solution.

I still haven't figured what's causing the problem. I've excluded several parts: Formatter board: This board can be completely disconnected .The printer can then be tested by pressing the small button on the DC controller board (when the printer is not opened up a small pin hole can be found on the right side cover not far from the LCD display) DC Controller: I've swapped this board and the result is exactly the same (board included the small brown board: PC Relay Board Assembly RM1-5293) there not many parts left: You have the high voltage board on the left side of the printer (my guess this is not the cause) PC Driver Board Assembly RM1-5288 (a pcb located right side next to the formatter board) Power supply In my opinion one of these is at fault. The Driver Board Assembly is easy to swap but the power supply is a different story. The service manual doesn't list how to replace this item. What puzzles me is that an error message never is shown...it just clicks away.

I know what you mean. The one I was working on was doing the SAME EXACT things although it would print a couple of pages every now and then, after a power cycle. Sometimes all print on the pages would be black even though they should have been in color. I ended up swapping the printer because there could be no more downtime. I'm wondering if a sticking solenoid is the culprit. Sometimes the sound deadening foam HP uses on their solenoids deteriorates and exposes the adhesive which causes the solenoids to stick. There are a couple of pick solenoids buried somewhere in this little "gem" of a printer but the maintenance manual doesn't clearly show their location. You may want to locate SL1 and SL2 solenoids and see if they are sticking. They are listed on page 73 of the manual. I have encountered many sticking solenoids in many different HP models and they can cause all sorts of issues that can be difficult to diagnose. Please post back if you find the cause and I'll do the same if I come across anything else. Cheers and good luck!

As jeffshead comments, the problem is in the solenodes that remain glued, they have an adhesive sheet that you have to remove that do not remain stuck, check in the printer manual the location of the three solenoids

aqui el problema son los selenoides o actuadores ya estan podrido el aislador que tiene como funcion hacer que no se quede pegada la placa de liberacion al paso del tiempo se pudren y se ponen pegajosos y ocasiona este problema, no jala el papel, jala papel sin que haya teminado de salir la hoja, no imnprime los colores el clocht de los cartuchos no deja trabajar como se ve en el video esta maquina trae 3 me parece bandeja de papel bandeja mutliproposito y registro de cartuchos y el registro trae 3 posiciones 0 1 y 2 0 todos los colores 1 solo negro 2 ninguno que es cuando se limpia la etb y es un pedo ponerlos a tiempo por todo lo que hay que desarmar

me too, i have change the paper pickup roller and senor,the problem can't solve . somebody say it is the calibration problem. toner cannot finish calibration ,thus, cannot go to next step pick up paper . i will try to another solution.

I'm unable to do that since I don't own the printer anymore. It's best to find the service manual for this model to see how the cables/wires are connected.

the culprit is a melted/sticky foam spacer at solenoid that throws the paper feed timing off sequence. Fix it by replacing the foam spacer.

@@rodrigovalle416 esta maquina asi como ves que cuando entra el motor logras ahi ver un mecanismo que gira es el que esta por el motor de salida del papel pues tienes que quitar la tarjeta logica la placa debajo y donde va conetado ese motor quitas el selenoide sin mover nada de los engranes lo limpias le pones cinta o la esponja si la tienes y vuelves a colocar en su sitio solo pon la patita del selenoide mueves un diente el engrane a que sientas que el selenoide vuelve a trabar el engrane clocht y con eso lo arreglas lo mismo pasa con la bandeja de papel este modelo es muy engorroso para poder sacarlos y repararlos, saludos
