I really like hearing how regular people speak from different parts of Italy. Watching these videos trains my brain to hear words and phrases how they'll actually be spoken and I think that will help if I ever visit! Unfortunately, no one is going to slow down to speak while subtitles scroll across their chest. 😬 Ottimo video, come sempre!

Una curiosità: il tipico corno rosso portafortuna di Napoli (ma non soltanto Napoli) deriva dall'ingentilimento un po' pudico dell'originario fallo eretto portafortuna già ben noto ai romani e popolazioni italiche, dipinto in molti punti anche a Pompei. Probabilmente il fallo eretto era ritenuto portafortuna perché espressione di vitalità ed energia giovanile, insomma: di salute.

è più calabria (in particolare) e sicilia , ma la cosa importante è che c'è qualcun altro che lo sa , che bello !! voglio aggiungere che porta fortuna perchè inoltre a sembrare un pene che già di per sè è un forte simbolo di fertilità , deriva dal fatto che viene da un ciondolo (niente forma fallica stilizzata , era proprio quello che sembrava )che i seguaci di Priapo indossavano , che è per l'appunto è il dio della fertilità romana

L'Autostrada A17 era il nome del tronco autostradale italiano tra Napoli e Bari, utilizzato dalla sua apertura nel 1969 sino all'inaugurazione della tratta Lanciano-Canosa dell'autostrada A14 nel 1973; quest'ultima denominazione fu estesa anche alla tratta Canosa-Bari della A17. Autostrada A17 Napoli-Bari Mai chiarito è, altresì, il motivo per cui il rimanente tratto della A17 tra Napoli e Canosa fu rinumerato in A16, benché da fonti mai confermate nacque la leggenda metropolitana che, data l'alta sinistrosità del tracciato, l'autostrada fosse stata rinumerata per evitare il riferimento al numero 17, ritenuto foriero di cattiva sorte

Comunque, per quanto riguarda il venerdì 17, credo che lo stigma sul venerdì sia dovuto al fatto che quello fu il giorno della morte di Cristo (in un tipico miscuglio di paganesimo e cristianesimo, c'è non a caso il detto "né di venere, né di marte, ci si sposa né si parte", probabilmente per il martedì riferendosi al fatto che nella parola è contenuto il nome del dio della guerra Marte). Quanto al 17, lo stigma deriva dal fatto che in latino si scriveva XVII, ma questo era l'anagramma di "VIXI", cioè "io vissi / ho vissuto...." seguito dal numero degli anni, che veniva scritto sulle tombe dai romani (uso già iniziato dagli etruschi, nella loro lingua e nelle loro tombe...).

Maybe an effective title for a work of fiction in the kind of genre called a Comic Novel to write could be called, "Clash of Supertitions" An example of what is called a Comic Novel is the novel title, "Pride and PRejudice" written by Jane Austen.

She says that before her performances, she has the ritual she describes, and so far it's always worked for her. 'Corna facendo' is another way to say 'facciamo le corna', which, like they say in the video, it's a good luck gesture. 😊

Non sono superstiziosa per niente. È interessante, che in Italia 17 è il numero che porta sfortuna. Sono tedesca, in Germania è il numero 13, soprattutto se è venerdì. Penso che la maggior parte delle persone non credano davvero, che questo giorno porta sfortuna, forse sono un po' attenti.

In Italia il 17 che porta sfortuna viene dai numeri romani. Infatti si scrive XVII che anagrammato diventa VIXI, cioè "ho vissuto", ovvero sono morto ;-)

I used to be superstitious it was something that was taught to me since I was a child, but then as I got older I began to learn more about my Catholic faith, and I made a choice not to be like that anymore. I believe it was in my mid or late 20's that I decided that I would no longer believe in superstitions, and that I was going to offer it up to God, and my life has been better for it. The way I see things is like this I take things as a sign that they were meant to happen, and it was God avoiding me from being in a dangerous situation. I own a black cat, and the only thing that happens to me is that I almost trip when he runs in my way! 😂My cat, Carbon, does not bring me bad luck.🐈‍⬛ I keep a Rosary I got from Lourdes close to me, and I offer up my troubles to God. 😉

UNA VOLTA il popolo italiano era superstizioso, ma ormai (da almeno mezzo secolo) la situazione è cambiata parecchio ma parecchio... Un po' meno forse a Napoli (più tradizionalista, in questo), dove dall'accento mi pare siano state fatte queste interviste, ma in realtà la situazione è molto cambiata anche lì, rispetto al passato...

Ho un medaglione con un orso. L'orso è il mio animale spirituale e porto il medaglione come talismano. Lo indosso ogni giorno. Ho anche due anelli che porto come portafortuna e un piccolo ciondolo che porto con me quando viaggio.

Why all the graffiti on the buildings? How come no one cleans it up? What city is this? Your whole town looks like one big slum. Come si dice 'slum' in italiano?

I think it is Napoli. But even if the buildings are not in good conditions and the streets are dirty, it does not seen to me that they are in "slums". Anyway, there is not an exact Italian word for "slum". We say "baracca" o "capanna" for a hut, so sometimes we say "baraccopoli" for a slum district, but "slum" might also be translated with "bassifondi", but this word rather means the poorest neighborhoods of a city, full of criminals, whichever the conditions of the buildings. For slums in other countries, we tend to use foreign words, varying according to the local varieties. So, we use "slums" for many English-speaking countries, "townships" for South Africa, "bidonvilles" for French-speaking Africa and "favelas" (probably the most popular one) for Brasil. But I repeat that these does NOT appear being the actual case, in the video, in my opinion....
