Technically not quite. The court essentially ruled that the person who claimed to own the copyright didn't in fact own it. That makes Happy Birthday an orphaned work, someone else could hypothetically come along and prove they hold the rights to it. That said, there's some other very questionable shenanigans that were pulled previously to extend the copyright on Happy Birthday, it arguably should have entered the public domain a while ago, but the courts didn't rule on that.

The American flag law was actually ruled unconstitutional because it violated the first amendment. Also you can argue if you're on a freeway where everyone is going 70 mpg and the speed limit is 55 mpg, if you get pulled over in the state of California you can argue that the minimum speed limit was above the maximum speed limit, and therefore you would be breaking the law no matter what. For this reason, police will usually only pull over someone who is speeding if they are weaving between cars or going noticeably faster than the cars around them. This is an argument to make in court, not to the officer.

That last law about being drunk in public is true and fairly often enforced. A village pub in the village my dad lives in had a particularly rowdy Thursday last year. It's normally a quiet pub but the only decent one for young and middle aged people so it can get lively. Some neighbours called the cops, they came in and fined the owners and everybody inside the pub. It racked up so much the owners had to sell a couple of months later, they were low of funds due to the pandemic (legal amount of people inside by the way) and it being a pub. But this fine was just too much! The new owners are nice enough but it's weird that this can happen because someone who decided to live next to a pub didn't like living next to a pub and it was after 11pm...

In New York, the speed limit on limited access highways is understood to be within 15 mph of the posted speed limit. The troopers here would rather see traffic flowing nicely and everyone doing around the same speed limit than having one person going at or under the speed limit and it breaks traffic flow. Just don’t go 80mph+ in a posted 65mph.

Just to correct the record. The Happy Birthday song has been tested in court and Warner Chappell do not actually own full rights to the happy birthday song. In copyright of music, you have the composition(the notes/melody/tune) The lyrics(the words of the song) the rendition(the instrument on witch it is played) and the author(The individuals right to there exact and whole execution of the former). Warner Chappell did buy some rights to happy birthday, however it was only the rights to the piano rendition. That means that if you play the tune on the piano in public, Then yes, you will need a licence to do so. Giving the age of the tune, It is likely that this purchase was so it could be soled to restaurants and bars on auto piano sheets, Or to charge for having it played by a pianist at an establishment. It was found in court that Warner Chappell could only prove that it owned the piano rendition rights, but not the rights to the composition or lyrics. So If you play it on anything else that is obviously not a piano (This includes a keyboard that is not using a traditional piano instrument mode) then Warner Chappell get jack squat. The record on the rights for the composition, lyrics and authorship where ruled to be orphaned, However, this is not the same as being public domain. Their is obviously licencing activity that took place because of the fact that Warner Chappell had rendition rights, but it is not known who the original author was, nor if rights were sold for other components of the song. Because of the unknown nature of the rest of the rights, and the date of the death of the author, the court could not rule it public domain.

It's incorrect that the Happy Birthday song is trademarked. Per a recent court case, a particular recorded version of the song is trademarked. The lyrics and melody, however, are not. The problem is that, until 2016, Warner Bros. religiously and overzealously prosecuted any use of the song, despite not having a clearly defined trademark on it (they assumed they did, since they owned the rights to the first publicly-available recording of the song; the song, however, existed for decades before this recording). As stated in other comments, no one will do anything to you for singing the Birthday Song. The idea that someone will sue you for trademark infringement is just a myth fed by a bit of real life corporate malfeasance.

I know some laws are just common sense but there are some laws where you stand there like, that was a law? IMO it should be LAW that the government should teach THEIR citizens THEIR laws because otherwise can some people really be blamed for breaking them? Again I know some are common sense but there's no excuse for the government to not teach their citizens the laws and their rights, I shouldn't have to do something wrong or look it up to be told my rights, I should be told them from childhood.

Do “Walt Disney’s Gummi Bears” and please put me in the credits. The Gummi Bears of Gummi Glen are the last of a once great race of Gummis. Regarded by many as a fairytale they are gentle, loveable creatures who want to live in harmony with mankind - but sometimes it's not easy. * A group of reclusive humanoid bears and a few trusted humans explore their lost heritage and prevent their enemies from exploiting it. * Long ago, there was a thriving civilization of small humanoid bears called Gummi Bears. Possessing powerful magic and advanced technology, this race coexisted with humans until the growing rivalry forced the Gummies to flee across the sea, leaving only a small caretaker colony to prepare for a possible return. However, generations passed and the colony forgot their purpose even as human knowledge of the race faded into mere legend. All that changes when the colony meets a boy with a Gummi Bear medallion which unlocks the Great Book of Gummi which reveals lost knowledge of their past. Now the colony has dedicated themselves to the new goal to rediscover their heritage with the help of a few trusted humans while preventing new enemies like Duke Igthorn from exploiting that heritage to their own ends. It is a Medieval Animated Shows set in Medieval Times and animated and televised by Walt Disney.

I live in Atlanta. I was crossing the road at a crossing walk with the signal and was hit by a car, on camera. I still got a ticket and the guy got off free.

I think copyright doesn't cover someone covering a song. Singing a song is way different from having a song played in the background

Heh, I live in Alabama. Back in my day, playing all types of games on Sunday was the norm. There's a basketball court up the street from where I live and everyone comes up there on Sunday to ball out. And of course card games and board games are played by children all over.

Happy birthday is public domain as of 2018. You can no longer be sued over singing it in public. Good play infographics 🤣
