Amazing you can spell such a unique word, but simple words like (passing) and (origin) is giving you a hard time.

Askinnish Hanover. Story has it that a visitor came to the village and was asking questions. Some of the history including the name of the village was unknown to the younger folks and someone suggested that he asked Mr. Kennish, an elder who lived there a long time. ( Mi noh know massah, Ass-Kennish!)

These names are what makes Jamaica so unique and the history behind it. You also have Ringtail Hall in St Elizabeth which is derived from birds with ringtail seen in the area and Barbeque Bottom in the Cockpit Country (a Barbeque in Jamaican terms is a deep sinkhole/depression of limestone)

I left the island many years ago, however, this topic was about names of places. How about a road sign that stuck out in my that reads "Undertakers Loves Overtakers Drive Carefully". I don't remember where I saw it but it was some place on the north coast.

That is one story, however the one I know is, in the early days because of the frequent rainfall in the area the land was continuously weeping water hence the name Porous.
