Lisa is Mary Poppins for teenage boys. She swoops in, magically, and helps them through one of the toughest, and most awkward, periods of life. Then before you know it, her work is done and she flies off to help others. Speaking as what was a 15 year old boy in 1985, this movie is closer to fact than fiction.

I saw this via a VHS rental back in the eighties. Back then, here in the UK, you could go to a rental shop and rent any movie you wanted regardless of it's certificate, which we did most weekends, although that didn't include porn! By the end of the eighties new laws were introduced which imposed age restrictions as per the certificate of the movie. Ah, the good old days!
@octaviussludberry9016
@octaviussludberry9016 Ай бұрын
That happened in 1984. The BBFC brought in restrictions and videos had to have certificates on. Not saying your story is bollocks - I know there were shops that rented stuff to anyone regardless of their age - there was on near me that had loads of the banned video nasties in a separate room - but this film didn't come out on video till 1988.

Another piece of my childhood. Chet is my favorite character. Partially because i had a friend that looked just like him when we were younger, crew cut and all. He had some of the more memorable lines in the movie. I have a 9 year old daughter and if she's eating something at the table, i will occasionally walk by and say, "That looks pretty good. You should make yourself some." and then proceed to take her plate just to get a reaction from her. Kelly LeBrock, who played Lisa was one of the hottest women of the time. I still remember her Pantene commercial with the famous line 'Don't hate me because I'm beautiful." Any chance you ladies would add "One Crazy Summer" starring John Cusack and Demi Moore or "Summer School" starring Mark Harman and Kirstie Alley to your 80s comedy watchlist?

This movie gets by on pure conviction to absurdity, without flinching. Over the top, yet grounded.. Also, Anthony Michael Hall being at his "smart ass but lovable" best and Kelly LeBrock being at her height helps a lot. But Chet really pulls the movie together. Before this, they did Bachelor Party, Sixteen Candles, Fast Times, The Last American Virgin and some lesser-known movies. Also Chet learns to stop bullying Wyatt and see him as a brother.

The blonde girl, Suzanne Snyder, besides Weird Science is probably best known for the movie Fools Rush In with Mathew Perry & Salma Hayek.

The name of the movie was taken from a song by a really unusual new wave band named Oingo Boingo. Created by Danny Elfman, and originally called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. Danny Elfman was a somewhat strange guy who, while having moderate success with Oingo Boingo, found his calling years later in a different branch of the music industry. Scoring movies. You might have seen some of the movies he wrote music for. Pretty much any Tim Burton movie, Mission Impossible, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Good Will Hunting, Spiderman ... I'll stop because he's scored more than a hundred movies. Not bad for a kid from LA who worked as a street performer in Paris eating fire.

The blonde of the two girlfriends is Suzanne Snyder. Probably the most notable thing others have seen her in is the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns From Outer Space (a must watch in the future for you both). She also was in Return of the Living Dead 2.

I saw this in the 80's and the music is so iconic to the movie and times. Every time I see the title anywhere, I hear the Oingo Boingo title song, "Weird Science" in my mental juke box.

Very different to other John Hughes' 80s films of the time but the sentiment remains the same and why he has influenced some of the best film (and TV) to this day.

I was so excited you all decided to review this! I was going to send it to you. It is a fun and wacky movie and a sort of coming of age. First time I saw Bill Paxton in a movie and Kelly LeBrock was gorgeous! Paxton played a great abusive older brother. Anthony Michael-Hall (Brat Pack Movie fame) reminded me of some of the guys I knew in High School. Plus it was set around Chicago. I forgot Robert Downey Jr was in this. The girlfriends have the Madonna, Desperately Seeking Susan look for the time period. Thanks Ladies!😀

@@ForceOfLightEntertainment- the movie came out first in 1985...the TV series ran for 5 seasons from 1994-1998 on the USA Network then later on the SyFy Channel (of course an entirely new cast played a lot of the same characters but greatly expanded on them). It was an entertaining often silly sci-fi/fantasy sitcom (along the same lines of a 90s I Dreamed of Jeanie & Bewitched).

Great reaction ladies!! This movie was a constant in my early life (and still is). I was 7 when this came out, had it on VHS and watched the crap out of it! Got the DVD when that was a thing - and happily shared this with my boys when the time was right! We all love it. So many quotable lines my wife, myself and my kids use. Yes, Kelly LeBrock was beautiful, certainly a stunner, and I LOVED the humour in this - it's a zany and crazy 80's comedy - full of the common tropes of the time (awesome music, wild parties, and the requisite T&A, even the bad guys from Mad Max!) My kids love the depiction of the 'internet' or computer hacking shown in all it's ridiculousness! 5 out of 5 for me. For another zany 80's comedy, this time with John Cusack, Demi Moore - check out One Crazy Summer! Cheers!

A bit out of the box for Hughes but still, a teen coming of age movie with life lessons. And the great Oingo Boingo band as the main song, much like Dead Man's Party! And a young Bill Paxton 😮😮😮
