A few years after NBC axed the show on the cliffhanger (a very, very lame move) there was a tv movie made by ABC, kinda-sorta tying up the loose ends. You can find it under “Project ALF”. The Tanners weren’t in it, and it dealt with ALF’s experiences with the alien task force. A less than satisfying ending to a beloved series, but it was better than nothing.

Open-mindedness had nothing to do with science. It’s literally the opposite of it. Science is based on evidence, and all the Galileo and other examples have exactly that thing in common; proper scientific evidence was dismissed for religious and cultural reasons. If anything „open-mindedness“ is part of the problem. This is why science shouldn’t be a topic on comedy shows.

When the sit-com centers around make believe, especially with a sci-fi element, then it doesn't really matter. Your right about how through out the centuries, virtually anything challenged with refutable evidence was dismissed because of religious or cultural differences (and in some cases stills apply today in our century) even warranting the death penalty in ages passed. I have known people who think to this day the earth is flat, my response to that is, "go climb a mountain, you go high enough, you will see the earths natural curvature, there's your proof." Only exception to that is Minecraft! The earth is a cube in Minecraft. 😉
