Movistar level leadout from Alpecin 🤦🏻♂️ but super happy for Fabio. What a road to recovery he’s had! 👏
@fogelmclovin26943 жыл бұрын
Disagree. Philipsen was already on Demare’s wheel and not being contested for it when Modolo came past him, so why should he come off it just to follow his teammate? In fact, Modolo’s attack cooked the FDJ train, isolating Demare at the perfect time and stopping FDJ from dropping off their sprinter with only 100m to go like Morkov did so successfully for Cavendish in the TDF. He lost because of Jakobsen’s good move, who came from behind. But everything they did was perfect for the action in front of them and disrupting a would be perfect leadout from FDJ.

I think the reason Ineos stayed in front after the 3 km mark was to keep their riders safe from crashes. Even though they won’t lose time, an injury from a crash can still destroy the race
@l.d.t.63273 жыл бұрын
2:11 the peloton almost split in the last K (see 2:49). So Ineos decided it was necessary to stay in front and avoid being behind a potential split.
@framedman3 жыл бұрын
I think what a lot of people don't understand about the 3km rule is that the clock only stops if you crash or have a mechanical. It's not like you go through the 3km marker and you sit up, have a beer and a picnic. You still have to finish near the front with the rest of the GC competitors, otherwise you lose time. So when ex-pros kick off when it's suggested to increase it, it's madness because it shouldn't affect the race, teams still have to compete, it just takes the jeopardy out of it.
@Nrk4u3 жыл бұрын
Best interview!!
@andrewkane42283 жыл бұрын
The 3km protects GC riders time if they within 3km but it doesn’t protect them from injury and there is still the potential to lose time if there is no crash. Ineos have made it a team strategy to position their riders at the front likely to protect their riders from the possibility of injuries and so they don’t get caught behind a split if there is no incident. As long as times are taken on the finish line and no gaps are allowed GC teams are going to ride hard to the 3km marker and beyond to protect their riders, I think grand tours need a 2 finish line system, 1 finish line possible 5 or 10km out is where the time is taken for the stage and then the actual finish line to determine positions on the stage, bonus seconds and points, you then give all riders 15 minutes to do the last 10km to ensure they keep the time at the first finish, this way you keep them out of the way but still make them work

2:11 I do not think that it is pointless. But the problem is that you can still be caught on the wrong side of a split and maybe loose time. The 3k-rule only helps in situations like Taramaees. Maybe the GC-Time should be taken at 3k to Go.

3km rule makes little sense. Gaps in GC still count if no crashes, so GC teams still have to drive. If they called GC gaps dead at 3km instead of finish on sprint stages, they could just get out of the sprinters' way. Far safer.
@D0nKeY3 жыл бұрын
Well there is no reason to drive it on the front is there? The only goal after 3km mark is to finish in the bunch. You dont have to do a sprint lead out or pick up the pace with 2k to go. thats just silly
@Fyr355553 жыл бұрын
If they set GC at 10kms on flat bunch sprints then there would also be more space for different teams to take up the lead out. Problem comes with ambiguity like last year when Roglic won a stage that was changed from a 'flat' to a 'hilly' type stage, which I think meant that his gap to some riders counted as the 1s rule was in place.
@cnglight3 жыл бұрын
@@D0nKeY Yeah, I understand that, but bunch is under stress because of pace, so what if gaps in the bunch emerge and your guy ends up on the wrong side? Also, even if crashes nullify times, you still don't want your leader to crash and safest place in a bunch is at the head. Basically, the 3km forces the GC guys to be at the head of the bunch when it's approaching its highest speed and its most dangerous, and it should only be sprinters teams in the bunch at that stage from a risk perspective.
@D0nKeY3 жыл бұрын
@@Fyr35555 there is no ambiguity in this case. Not sure why you mention some stage where there was. But today there wasnt. Nothing happened. its just a sprint stage. the 3km rule was in palce. everyone knows it. nothing happened. The discussion is why pace at the front at 2km to go as a gc teammate.. thats what the discussion is about. Whether its 3km or 10km. it doesnt matter. especially if you decide to get to the front with 2km to go. Just surround your leader in the bunch and guide him to finish line to arrive in the bunch or the front group

GC riders have to be near the front until the finish not just for crashes but gaps at the finish. If you're 40th wheel and they deem there was a 1 second gap between you and the guy in front of you your time is taken on the guy who crossed first in your group not just the 1 second.
