I have been playing in tournaments since 2006 and I still get that. Lets not forget there are over 11K cards in this game. Nobody can be expected to know all the rulings. I often add in cards thinking they work one way, only to discover they dont do what I think they do. My worst experience with this was when I tried to play a card and destroy my opponents monster to do burn dmg only to discover it would destroy my own card and deal dmg to both of us.....instantly killing me in the process. Sometimes I just read things wrong 🤣🤣

I faced a kid who joined the locals for first time. When he used Small World, he thought it was just pitch from hand and grab from deck. I still explained the concept of Small World to him since Virtual world was pretty complicated in terms of what to pitch since most have same level or type or stats etc. At the end, he chose not to use it, as they had only one card that can be bridged but didn't want to use it as it's a combo piece. At the end of the game, I just gave him a Gadarla Kaiju cause it's a wind monster that can be used as the bridge piece but will still be useful for actually countering towers decks.

It's primarily because there's so many cards in the game and there's so much power creep. It used to be "cannot be destroyed by battle" was almost unbeatable. Then "cannot be targeted or destroyed" was unbeatable. So to power creep further they had cards non-target banish, send, return or otherwise remove cards.

apparently the distinction is that "if" always applies once the condition is met but "when" only applies at that exact "when" . These conditions can then be worded similarly to mean almost exactly the same thing as well. For example, "when/if this card is in the graveyard" is identical. I don't know how they would rule on a card like that. so, for example, "if this card is sent to the graveyard", the condition lasts forever unless it states otherwise. "when this card is sent to the graveyard" is only there and then.

I know that this is a skit and all but lately I've been very disinterested in playing Yugioh through Master Duel. The current meta of Ghoti, Tearlaments, and other crazy stuff that locks you out of playing the game kills all the fun for me. I was playing a sacred beasts deck for a while to counter the meta because it has its own version of skill drain but the duels aint fun anymore. Haven't touched the game for a few weeks now, I probably won't for the foreseeable future either. Ghoti especially is the most frustrating for me.
@Mikel_1573

I understand you but maybe it's time to find a new deck to play ? Don't get me wrong, I too love playing with unexpected non meta decks (especially Plunder Patroll after they added the new ship but really, FA Metalfoes and Ursarctic are the ones I always come back despite how trash they are compared to every other decks) and playing against meta is so hard and frustrating sometimes. So I've decided to try a new deck that could compete and that I liked so I choosed Springans because they are fun to play and have a decent board and Spright when really I had enough with losing too much. What I mean is, playing with your favourite deck can be very frustrating against meta but it's not entirely a reason to stop playing the game entirely since we are dealing with Komoney. So sometimes, try new archetypes that you might like and test the play style. It doesn't have to be a meta deck but at least something that can compete. If you don't like it, try another decks until you find the one most fitting to your taste and you could keep your sacred beast deck to fun duels against your friend or even on casual mode. And if none I that work, there's other format as well like Duel Links if you like the anime. So yeah, don't give up on YGO yet cause they're still other ways to still have fun, even if it's not on MD.

@@Mikel_1573Thank you for your comment! I understand what your saying but I think one of the major issues contributing to this is that you don't get rewards for playing on casual ( at least not major rewards I think, I'm a f2p player. I don't spend money on the game ). If I were to play something I like, let's say a Yusei stardust deck it would get destroyed by cards like skill drain, ash blossom, Ghoti, etc. If you could earn rewards to get more cards on casual I really wouldn't play ranked at all. @@chazzitz-wh4lyYou summed up my thoughts perfectly! It'd certainly be fun to play the deck archetypes that I like but they get destroyed by Meta. Plus, as a f2p player I need the rewards from ranked in order to get the cards that I need. Casual, at least to me, doesn't have much of an incentive to play

Having gotten into Duel Links again recently and finally having a good time with a cheap F2P Triamid deck, I'm finally understanding a lot of these things now, including having experienced my first Trap played from the hand by my opponent!
@nathanielbass771

I recently decided to try pendulum stuff. I created a deck that had 3 different ways to otk XD newer cards are just cheap and make no sense. As an example, the recent "odd eyes" promotion card. it's an EXTRA DECK CARD that can only be summoned via pendulum summon or another card's effect, BUT, in order to use any of its effects, you have to get it onto the field, have it return to the extra deck by any means other than "return to hand" or similar effects that undo card effects, so that it will then be face up in your extra deck. And then you have to have 2 level 7 DRAGON monsters on the field in order to Xyz summon it from the extra deck to have its effects activate. In Duel links, this is crazy hard to accomplish without the character's ability but in exchange, you can destroy all of your opponent's cards once per turn for free or some other powerful effect that I don't remember what it was.

@@ZhyperCR1T well, if the game was consistent, it would be blocked because it is a summon and by most rulings, when a card can not resolve after being played, it would then go to the graveyard. The "place the continuous spell on the field" gave me flashbacks to one of the earlier cards with this issue, Aerial Recharge. When tinkering with Mecha Phantom Beasts when they first came out, I had a lot of games where I activated it, they chained MST, then I changed Aerial Recharge's effect. It led to a lot of confused looks because basically nothing before that point could do that, and eventually led to people meticulously waiting for me to declare the activation of the card's effect. Good times.
