Man, I was in college back in 1998. What a great time to be alive. I know it's cliche, but it really only seems like it was yesterday. I remember going to the cinema, with one of my closest friends, to see "Saving Private Ryan". Neither of us were expecting such a heavily emotional film. There were World War ll veterans in the audience, who were sobbing uncontrollably. I remember after the movie ended, the two of us went outside, and quietly stood there for about 20 minutes, smoking a cigarette, trying to process what we just watched. It was crazy. Lol!

No highlight for 1998. My dad passed away from cancer in late June 1998. However, oddly tying in with this episode, he was determined to finish the NBA finals because he had never watched the full playoffs for it before. Then he finished a very long book I bought him the previous xmas. I said "guess I should have bought you a longer book". The rest of 1998 was generally awful. Not my favorite year of the 90s by a long shot.

I graduated from high school this year. I also joined the US Air Force in 98. Best decision I ever made! If I could re-live my life it would be from that point forward. I was also really into Aggressive inline skating. I was passionate about it, little did I know that it was in fact just a fad. I do wish it was still a thing today.

Thanks for this! 🌐 Since you asked, my highlight of 1998 was mostly illustrated by movies... DEEP IMPACT, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, THE FACULTY, THE WEDDING SINGER, MEET JOE BLACK, A BUG'S LIFE, WILD THINGS, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, MULAN, RUSHMORE, YOU'VE GOT MAIL, STEPMOM, PATCH ADAMS, LOST IN SPACE, GREAT EXPECTATIONS, SLIDING DOORS, THE LAST DAYS OF DISCO, APT PUPIL, VELVET GOLDMINE, GODS AND MONSTERS, WAKING NED DEVINE, BELOVED and PLEASANTVILLE. To a lesser degree, tv shows like FRIENDS, ALLY MCBEAL and THE X-FILES also played a significant role in my entertainment/inspiration.
