Yeah, this is why lots of favorite smells are due to the memories linked to it For example: one of my favorite smells is cornbread, because sometimes after school I wound open the door of my house and the warm scent of freshly-pulled-outa-the-oven cornbread would just hit me. It was one of the few times I'd actually be able to have some nice food and peace at the time, so cornbread to me is an almost calming smell (I'm guessing this is also why people smell their crushes/partner's clothing)

Rasputin had a daughter who called B.S. on this account of his death).

The biggest difference I know of is that Anastasia was not alive the whole time. She died along with her family. But for the longest time people didn't know this, and tried to dress up women to look like her for money, like they're shown doing in here. The main reason they believed she was alive was that when they looked over the bodies, they didn't initially find her. But they have since found her in the grave, thus exposing the scammers for what they were.

Her younger brother's body was not found with the rest of the family either. They were found together elsewhere. The theory I've heard is that the bolsheviks had an attack of conscience regarding these two because they were pretty much just kids, and decided not to just dump them in with the rest.

You know how Anya hit Demetri on the train? I honestly would not be surprised at all if she had to break a few noses in order to keep her precious necklace while living in the orphanage. Children can be savage little buggers and the caretakers did not seem like kind people either. Though in communist Russia, I can't fault them for being cranky. @@trishapellis It is strongly implied to be the head trauma that caused her memory loss (at least initially), and I think the years in the orphanage reinforced it. The caretaker of the orphanage marks a derisive comment about how Anya "acted like the Queen of Sheba" when she first arrived at the orphanage (which makes sense that even though she didn't remember who she was at that point, her behaviours would have been ingrained in her from her previous upbringing). No doubt the caretaker would have severely discouraged any of Anya's behaviour that resulted from her royal upbringing, and it's likely that any time Anya would have had memories pop up over the years, the caretaker would be the type to dismiss her as being delusional (Anya makes a comment how "every little orphan girl dreams of being a lost princess," kind of implying that she has had memories pop up either in the form of literal dreams, or she confused her memories for daydreams of what she wished she had).

The real Grigori Rasputin was a monk and healer who managed to get in good with the Romanovs after he healed their hemophilic son, Alexi. Mostly he just stopped the blood letting practice and let him get rest. Rasputin became an adviser to Nicholas and was much loved by the Empress, Grand Duchess, and the children. Ultimately his downfall came from the abuse of his power to satisfy his addictions and his manipulation of the Czar from interfering in affairs of state causing Russia to suffer. He was eventually killed by a group of nobles who tried to poison him leading to a fight with stabbing, clubbing, and shooting until he was eventually drowned in a river. The rumors of him being a sorcerer stemmed from his almost hypnotic prowess and association with the occult.

I love this movie. Random fact that picture that Anastasia gave her grandmother in the beginning of the film is actually an actual drawing she drew for her grandmother in real life. And the people that were in that dream scene I’m pretty sure that was her little brother & sisters & dad. But when I found out that it’s based off the real story I was like “that’s so sad but the movie is really really good. Just wish that the real life story didn’t have a sad ending but wish it ended with a happy one. Also I’m pretty sure the dog represents or symbolizes (or whatever the word I’m looking for is) is the dog that used to be her sister Maria’s dog but during their quarantine/lockdown the pup became more of Anastasia pup. If I remember correctly I read that in one of the books about their family and what actually happened. Also the live action is also really really good. Definitely recommend the live action Anastasia:once upon time. (It’s not a musical but it has music in it.) Love your videos!

This movie is inspired by the rumor which started after the Russian Revolution in 1917. The Czars of Russia, The Romanov family were massacred (in Yekaterinburg) after the Czar abdicated that year and rumors started to spread of Anastasia and her younger brother Alexei about they scaping and being alive (which later bringed a lot of girls to say they were Anastasia) then in the 90s when the bodys of the Russian family were found they discovered that it was not Anastasia but her sister Maria and Alexei's bodies that were separated from the others but everyone died in 1917 that night. It was a tragedy. (The movie is inspired by those girls who tried to make the Empress (the Czars Mother who was still alive) believe Anastasia was alive and it was them.

Rasputin actually died from drowning. He was poisoned and shot about six times but didn't die. Before he was welcomed by Queen Alexandria to help with Alexei's hemophilia (an inherited disease where your blood can't clot), and he was thought to have supernatural powers. The musical on Broadway is a bit more realistic bc it doesn't include Rasputin and instead has post-Bolshevik revolution military officials.

Though he had no official office in the Russian Orthodox Church, nor was he tonsured as a monk, there is plenty of evidence that Rasputin was a holy man. Though unofficial, he was an ascetic and a mystic. There are even some efforts today to have him canonized as a saint, considering he was dearly loved and relied upon by the Royal Family, who are canonized saints (martyrs). Though I still enjoy it for what it is, this movie certainly did him dirty.

This was one of my favorite movies to watch as a kid. I remember it very fondly. Different smells are actually a great way to unearth buried memories. For instance, whenever I smell a particular flower, I'm transported back to my babysitter's house from when I was 2ish years old and my favorite little red mailbox toy with a plastic letter. A deep sense of calm falls over me. A similar thing happens whenever I start to smell the dead leaves scent when Fall is approaching. My memory is garbage otherwise.

6:54 The "depths of hell" you're referring to is actually purgatory, or limbo. Basically it's a type of place where souls go in some religions in order to finish some business before moving on, whether to Heaven or Hell. I remember learning in Sunday school that sometimes churches would ask for a donation, usually money, in order to get someone who has died out of purgatory and into Heaven. Unfortunately this was common for a long time in the Catholic Church, my religion.

Yes, that’s Angela Lansbury, she’s actually in another Disney movie called Bedknobs and Broomsticks which is one of my personal favourites. Also, the dog’s name is Pooka and he’s a boy. Whenever I see this movie, I automatically hear At the Beginning by Donna Lewis and Richard Marx because it used to play before the movie started on my VHS tape. 😂 It’s still banging. I used to belt out the lyrics when I was alone as a kid.

Just a quick question…Welchy does know that this movie is tangentially related to an actual historical event right??? Like the Romanovs were real and so was Rasputin, 🤣 I believe Rasputin was known for being a holy man and healer as well as the rumor he was doinking Anastasia‘s mother which is part of why Royal Loyalists killed him….where as the common people are who killed the Romanov Family

This was based on grand duchess Anastasia from Russia she was 17 when she died (1918). She didn’t get buried till 1998 though. In reality she was killed with her family by a group of bolsheviks.

Fun fact: this movie was set in 1917 during the Russian Revolution and the villain was Gregory Rasputin (a so-called holy man who could apparently heal others with magical powers). However he went mad with power and he began influencing the Russian royal family so he got assassinated by a bunch of army officers

My high school history class was studying the Russian revolution when this movie came out so my teacher took us all to see it, and then we went to Burger King afterwards and I got a Dmitri figurine that sat on top of my computer for years afterwards. Good times. (And no, my teacher didn't imply that this was at all historically accurate, but we had fun dissecting it and comparing it to what was actually known in history.)
