It's about time America started welcoming her heroes home. On January 5th, 1969 I was welcomed home from Vietnam when we landed in California---welcomed home by being SPIT ON! Thank God our young men and women will never ever have to say that the worst day of their tour was the day they put their feet back on American soil! This country should still be ashamed of those days. Karl, thank you for a splendid job with that song. You and people like you almost make up for what us Vietnam vets went through.

Both my grandfather's, my great uncle john, my uncle Tim, my uncle Jack, my cousin Josh and my other cousin Richard were all in Vietnam and they told of the disrespect they got when they returned. I want to say thank you to all the vet's in Vietnam. this is my 20th year in the USA army I will be retiring 6/30/16. I want to say good luck to all the future soliders and those who are still serving.

I was just a kid of 8-9 years old when the war in Vietnam was winding down and I remember hearing about this happening to people who stood up to serve this great nation and when they were finally home they were treated like that. I remember asking my Father ( a WW2 Marine ) why. I remember seeing the hurt in his eyes when he said I don’t know, but it didn’t happen in my day. I was raised to respect the flag and to honor our veterans.

Vietnam Vet 66, 67, 68. Three long tours behind me …….I walked out the gate. There was no one there to meet me when we got back, no one at the gate when I walked out it either. I’ve spent my life looking for me. The boy that somewhere disappeared between the missions and the strikes. One day I looked up and he was gone. I’m 76 now. I left Vietnam but Vietnam hasn’t left me.

I came back from Vietnam on January 16, 1972 (52 years ago). And as other Vietnam Veterans have said and written, I never really came back at all, and I will carry that war within me until I leave this world (the unwanted prize of that tour). The fact that, prior to that tour I had become a professional soldier, and afterward, had continued being a soldier until 1995, when I retired, did not really help me come back from Vietnam all together, as if my military experience for total time served, should have helped me do it. And this is a dilemma shared by many Veterans, I'm afraid. Lucky, we have finally been, that in the last twenty-five years, or more, some of the stress (or pain) has been mitigated or reduced thanks to a great number of Americans and organizations that have taken to conscience to personally welcome us back into our nation. And by God, that helps! And especially in helping us feel more normal, like we are really back "to the world", finally, in spite of the abnormalities and wounds that some of us still show or suffer. Thank you, America!

After the Viet Nam War and back in the states, my buddy drank every evening until totally wasted. Then he would walk the streets talking but not to anyone, about how he wore his uniform proudly when we landed home only to be spit on at the airport again and again. It was in 1994, the I last saw him. God bless him wherever he is.

My father. Served 8 years in the USMC loved every minute of it. After he dedicated his life to Law Enforcement. He was the best father I could have ever asked for.. On 08/09/2020 I got us a ride to Tampa from an old coworker who was also a marine served 6 years and had PTSD. My dad saw him as his brother. My father and I had fought that morning. We left to Tampa my dad and I sat in the back seat. He gave me a fist bump. My friend fell asleep at the wheel. We hit a mile marker and a culvert which ejected everyone from the car. My father died on the scene. I didn't care about anything else other than if he was ok. I was told in the hospital when I woke up he didnt make it and died in the wreck.. I lost it. I couldn't move. Fractured my spine in 4 places. Broke my neck. Collarbone. Etc. I didnt feel the pain. I felt the pain of my dad no longer with me. I wished I had told him I loved him. Hugged him. Apologized. Something. I miss you dad.. RIP DADDY. I love you so fucking much

My oldest brother was drafted to go to the Vietnam War. He didn't go but a friend of his did. He was a helicopter pilot and was shot down out of the sky. When I see a veteran or a soldier I thank them for all that they gave to America. Plus I tell them thank you for all that you did and gave for America. Also I tell them that they and their families are in my thoughts and prayers.

U.S.Army 1971-1991, retired, came home in Aug 1972 to San Francisco. It was the most surreal experience I had ever experienced. As a 19 year old soldier just back from Viet Nam. But I knew that this was my life and that the anger I was experiencing would change one day. I sit here now and watch with pride at the support given returning military. The kind of support that will ensure their return to family and country was not in vain. There will always be countries or people that think our way of life is wrong, but then again why are they trying to come live here. Thanks for the song Sir, its a wonderful way to show your love for this country and it's soliders. SSG Daniel D. Grooms Ret.

I did 3 deployments between the years 1999-2011. I'm a dual citizen, but I'm a Canadian Military Veteran. If they asked for my help. I would go back in a heartbeat. Just because I served under a flag that is red, and white doesn't mean that if the United States Military needed my expertise that I wouldn't give them the help that they asked for. My mom is a USA citizen, and my dad is Canadian. If you are connected to the North American Continent. I would be more than happy to defend your homeland because it is connected to mine. God BLESS our soldiers' no matter what flag you serve under. Stay safe, stay strong, and go home safe. Semper Fi!!!!! From a medically retired Canadian Colonol from the G.E.E.S.E (Geographical Elevation Estimation Specialist Experts) Veteran. Come home SAFE, and I agree that people should WELCOME you HOME with open arms after your deployment(s).

Bryan, I can’t say I understand, because unless we went through what you & others did we will never understand. I was in that dark hole before & it’s a lonely place. It wasn’t for the kind of fight that you fought for ALL of us, it was a fight for my children lives & myself against 1 demon of a man. I shouldn’t even say man. Welcome home, know we are proud of you all, real heroes. I seen the hurt and deep misery and anger in my stepdad who raised three kids who weren’t his own. The pain finally passed and now the nightmares are gone away as he is in heaven almost three years now. Semper Fi

When I was young I prayed every night that God would protect those young men who went to fight in that hell called Vietnam. I am 60 now and I know some of what they felt after serving 26 years myself. To all who served "Welcome home!!!"

I'm very young (12) but since I was 4 I have been wanting to serve in the army like my father and grand father, and my great grand fathers. And if there is anything I'd love is to not be honored during Memorial Day. Why you ask because they honor the ones who died in combat I believe and I pray over me and all of y'all who are joining armed forces or have loved ones over seas that they don't get honored on Memorial Day, I pray that one day there will be PEACE! LONG LIVE AMERICA!

Our servicemen deserve our utmost respspect. They're willing to place their lives in danger where others cannot or will not. As somebody who's been trying to get in since 17, and is now 35, it means a lot to me that somebody is willing and able to die for our country. I'm willing, but short of a presidential override, I'm physically deficient. I've wanted to join for almost half of my life now.
