Watched this movie in theaters. Hands down the best sci-fi/fantasy movie that’s out there at the moment. I really felt the ‘power’ of things that were supposed to be powerful. I felt terrified for the characters when they were terrified. The consequences were truly real. A lot of stories nowadays will tell us that something in-story-universe is ‘powerful’ or ‘scary’. But then they die instantaneously whenever the writers need a convenient death. You never really feel the consequences or the ‘weight’ of it. This movie did it all right. Watch it in theaters! Damn man thank you so much for making this. I was never into Dune all that much because I just wasn't really exposed to it, but figured I'd watch the movie anyway since it looked kind of cool. Watching this first gave me a much better platform to understand the movie from. I enjoy sci-fi a lot, and now that I've watched this video I'm going to be getting into Dune quite a bit deeper. Thank you!

This is the best and most comprehensive guide to Dune that is available on the internet. I love the videos Invicta has produced on various warrior cultures throughout human history, but when it comes to your channels videos on fictional universes, this one is by far one of the best on your channel.

I prefer Frank Herbert's version of the Butlarian Jihad... where it was mankind using machines to enslave and control people. Not some AI war like Brain Herbert's thing, it goes completely against the original philosophy.

Why not mention the north african history and Islam history that inspired the lore ? No one noticed the amount of references and arabic words in the movie ?

I haven't seen the new movie yet (I don't do subscription services!) but I have read the book. First time I read it was in 2018 after getting into fantasy novels and looking for something similar to ASOIAF in my local library and DUNE was highly recommended by my friends. I LOVED IT! I enjoyed it so much I also bought the prequel books recently. One thing that confuses me is why so many people say that the story is difficult to adapt to a movie. The plot is very well structured and the world building is not very convoluted. It is honestly one of the easier sci-fi/fantasy books to adapt into a movie or even TV.

What makes Arrakis frustrating is that the humans can't really do anything to improve the environment like killing the sand worms or change the atmosphere and soil to make it less hot and hazardous, even if it's within their technological capability. Because any changes to the ecosystem of Dune can potentially cripple the spice production. The substance is produced through the elaborate process where every part of Arrakis' ecosystem plays a role. So there is no way to live here then just accept the world as it is and go with the flow.

Did you read the rest of the Dune books? The eventually do that. Heck, they even start doing it a bit while Paul is still Emperor.
@ryandtibbetts29623 жыл бұрын
In Dune, it is mentioned that Arrakis had "recently opened itself to new lifeforms." This suggests that the Fremen terraforming project was already well underway when House Atreides arrived.

Surely we could drop a few ice asteroids at strategic points. No need to destroy all deserts with the worms but reducing they size to maybe 50% should benefit everyone on dune.

The science behind the lore is perhaps the most well thought out of any science fiction I know!
@frankharr94663 жыл бұрын
I only ever successfully read the first one, but I always had the feeling that the precience aspect of melange and most especailly its use by the Spacing Guild were secrets that weren't shared outside of the Fremen and the guild. Most people only took enough to extend their lives, not enough to cause prescience that anyone would notice or blue-tinted eyes. Somethinb I'm surprised you didn't note, Arrakis wasn't always a wasteland and the Zensunni didn't always live there. The Zensunni were driven off a different world and made it to Arrakis as reffugees. And once Arrakis had open water. Someone did that to the planet. But basically a good effort. I'm just nitpicking here.
@keshav34793 жыл бұрын
It's not really possible for anyone to do that to the planet since the worms, which are a product of the desert, could've only evolved into their current state after millions of years - long before humanity. I think it's more implied that Arrakis is just the aftermath of a mass extinction or major climactic changes.

Someone explain to me why, if the spice is this essential, the Emperor/Empire just doesn't take over Dune itself but instead gives it to the other houses to control? You'd think something that important and lucrative wouldn't be entrusted to anyone but the Emperor.
@chaosblaziken13 жыл бұрын
@@jakobinobles3263 As you said to maintain order and not having all Houses teaming up against them. From the video you can see that the Imperial house actually only has 100 votes in the Landsraad. Tho they have control to rule others, they still have to maintain their image and position with the landsraad. My other point would be that ruling an empire is already hard enough to add also the weight of maintaining spice production on a literal wasteland planet.

@@jakobinobles3263 this is not how real history works check how roman emperors treated my country egypt with it being emperor literal property within no senator allowed to visit it with out his blessings with the governor being the only governor in the empire to belong to the equestrian ranks all of that and Egypt was far less important than arakis and the spice
@MohamedRamadan-qi4hl3 жыл бұрын
@@jakobinobles3263 like bro Britain had a similar problem in India and guess what they ended up taking direct control over it despite it being in the other half of the world so yes in comparison even if arakis was on the other half of the galaxy from the capital it only makes sense for him to take direct control over it and give it a special status make it the fifif of the heir for example or appointment a special governor on it from a lower class anything would have been more realistic than just giving it to another house
@alganhar13 жыл бұрын
@@MohamedRamadan-qi4hl The British Empire removed control of India from the East India Company not because it wanted to retain control of the trade, but because of a series of avoidable disasters that had occurred under the EIC's rule. And while that occurred in 1858, you have to remember the Suez Canal was completed only 11 years later. Even so, the Crown did not have direct control over the Raj, they sent a Vice Roy who ruled in the Empires name. That Vice Roy was selected by the Empire and could be removed by the Empire, but essentially ruled India in the Empires stead. While the Vice Roy may have been given broad instructions, how he did that was essentially left to him to decide, which is almost EXACTLY what is happening on Arrakis. A vice Roy is appointed and his/her task is to ensure the Spice flows. How they do that is up to them. In fact choosing how Britain ran India as your example of why the Emperor should take control is literally the worst example historically you could have chosen.
