I just came back from DUBAI. It's an awesome place with rich, lavish and luxurious construction being kept immaculately clean by a small army of servants from the Phillipines, Africa and India. The vast majority of people you see aren't even Arab Emirati people. You see Phillipine women all day long. The Dubai Mall is massive - a major destination - with tons of activities, food and entertainment, but most likely, unless you're rich, you aren't going there to shop. You aren't coming out with hands full of expensive shit. The main attractions I went to see where the Burj Khalifa - thankfully at the base of the mall - and the Burj Al Arab. The beaches are nice and the more money you bring: the better, but if you aren't into spending long, you can easily get hotel rooms at $60 a night. The biggest cost is the flight. I took EMIRATES A380 first class, nonstop for 12 hours. The only way to fly. Stayed in Burjuman and then hopscotched to Seychelles.

They don't pay those people from the Phillipines, African countries, and India very well. Everything is expensive. I've only gone there once and we wouldn't buy anything from these places, it'd take us long to find somewhere where it's not over-the-top expensive. The flight? You should've gone by, let's say, Turkish Airlines. You go from your place, and from Turkey to there. That's if you're in Europe or North America, I suppose. But Emirates Airways is way too expensive!

SABDA NABI ﷺ Kisah Dubai dan Kebenaran Sabda Nabi Kehidupan ini adalah nyata. Lebih nyata dari pendapat siapa pun tentang kenyataan. Ia terus bergerak, mengalir, dan berubah. Hari ini, seseorang miskin bertelanjang kaki. Esok hari, tiba-tiba ia menjadi miliyuner yang membangun gedung pencakar langit yang tinggi. Nabi ﷺ pernah bersabda menggambarkan situasi kehidupan akhir zaman, “Dan bila engkau menyaksikan mereka yang berjalan tanpa alas kaki, tidak berpakaian, fakir, dan penggembala kambing, (kemudian) berlomba-lomba membuat bangunan yang tinggi.” Sabda beliau ini nyata! Lebih nyata dari pendapat siapapun tentang kenyataan. Kali ini kita bercerita tentang Dubai, sebuah emirat (propinsi) di negara Uni Emirat Arab yang menjadi bukti dari sekian banyak kebenaran sabda Nabi. Sabda Nabi ﷺ Suatu hari, bumi menjadi saksi pertemuan dua makhluk agung dan mulia. Malaikat yang terbaik berjumpa dengan manusia termulia. Malaikat Jibril datang menjumpai Nabi kita Muhammad ﷺ. Jibril datang dengan wujud manusia. Ia datang dengan penampilan indah. Mengenakan baju yang teramat putih ditimpali warna rambut yang hitam kelam. Ia datang berdialog dengan Nabi Muhammad ﷺ untuk memberikan pengajaran kepada para sahabat. Jibril bertanya tentang Islam, iman, dan ihsan. Kemudian ia bertanya tentang tanda kiamat. Di antara jawaban Nabi ﷺ adalah, وَأَنْ تَرَى الْحُفَاةَ الْعُرَاةَ الْعَالَةَ رِعَاءَ الشَّاءِ يَتَطَاوَلُونَ فِي الْبُنْيَانِ. “Dan bila engkau menyaksikan mereka yang berjalan tanpa alas kaki, tidak berpakaian, fakir, dan penggembala kambing, (kemudian) berlomba-lomba membuat bangunan yang tinggi.” (HR. Muslim). Inilah di antara tanda-tanda hari kiamat. Tanda hari kiamat ada yang sifatnya baik. Ada pula yang buruk. Ada pula hanya sekedar kabar atau tanda yang aslinya tidak bersifat baik ataupun buruk. Hanya sekadar tanda dan kabar agar manusia sadar bahwa kiamat pasti terjadi. Contohnya seperti berlomba-lomba membuat bangunan yang tinggi ini. Dalam hadits lain, yang diriwayatkan Imam Ahmad dari Ibnu Abbas radhiyallahu ‘anhuma, ada keterangan tambahan. Ibnu Abbas bertanya kepada Nabi ﷺ: يَا رَسُـولَ اللهِ، وَمَنْ أَصْحَابُ الشَّاءِ وَالْحُفَاةُ الْجِيَـاعُ الْعَالَةُ قَالَ: اَلْعَرَبُ. “Wahai Rasulullah, dan siapakah para pengembala, orang yang tidak memakai sandal, dalam keadaan lapar dan yang miskin itu?” Beliau menjawab, “Orang Arab.” (Musnad Ahmad, IV/332-334, no. 2926). Emirat Dubai Dubai adalah salah satu emirat di wilayah Uni Emirat Arab (UAE). UAE sendiri merupakan sebuah negara federasi yang terdiri dari tujuh emirat yang kaya akan minyak bumi. Tujuh emirat ini adalah: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, dan Umm al-Qaiwain. Pada tahun 1971, enam dari emirat ini - Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah, Sharjah, Dubai, dan Umm al-Qaiwain - bergabung untuk mendirikan Uni Emirat Arab. Setahun berikutnya, Ras al-Khaimah menyertai mereka. Dubai adalah ke-emiran yang paling populer. Ada yang mengatakan, nama kota ini berasal dari bahasa Persia. Karena dulu wilayah ini berada di bawah kekuasaan Kekaisaran Sasaniyah Persia. Ada pula yang mengatakan kata Dubai berasal dari bahasa Arab dabba (Arab: دَبَّ - يَدُبُّ) yang artinya menjalar atau mengalir. Karena di Dubai terdapat aliran sebuah sungai air garam yang sekarang dikenal dengan Khor Dubai atau Dubai Creek. Dubai terletak di sepanjang pantai Teluk Arab dipimpin oleh keluarga al-Maktoum sejak 1883. Pemimpinnya saat ini adalah Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum yang juga menjabat sebagai Perdana Menteri dan Wakil Presiden UEA. Dubai Sebelum Metropolis Dalam wawancara dengan BBC, Syaikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum menunjukkan rumah kakeknya, tempat bermain di masa kecilnya. Ia mengatakan, “Inilah tempat ayahku, ibuku, dan kami tinggal. Saat aku lahir tidak ada listrik di sini. Hanya bagian itu dan itu (ia menunjuk dua titik tempat lampu menyala di rumah besar itu) dan tidak ada air”. Pernyataan singkat ini, menggambarkan bagaimana keadaan Dubai sebelum bertransofmasi menjadi kota metropolis. Rumah keluarga al-Maktoum, keluarga Emir Dubai, adalah rumah yang gelap dan kesulitan air. Apalagi rumah rakyat biasa. Meskipun minyak sudah ditemukan sejak tahun 1966, tahun 1973, hanya ada satu hotel berkelas di sana, Hotel Sheraton. Kalau sekarang malah sangat sulit menemukan hotel yang tidak berbintang lima di Dubai, bahkan ada hotel berbintang tujuh di sana. Islam adalah agama yang tidak menghalangi kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Inovasi dalam hal dunia dibuka selebar-lebarnya selama tidak melanggar syariat. Di zaman dahulu umat Islam terkenal dengan kemajuan arsitekturnya. Oleh karena itu, tanda hari kiamat berupa berlomba-lombanya manusia dalam meninggikan bangunan tidak dikategorikan sebagai permasalahan yang nilai dasarnya jelek. Bahkan bisa jadi pembangunan ini bermanfaat dan maslahat. Sekarang di Dubai, semuanya serba besar, luas, dan tinggi. Megah, mewah, sampai membuat mulut ternganga. Dubai adalah kota dengan pertumbuhan tercepat di dunia. Gurun yang kosong telah berubah menjadi gedung-gedung pencakar langit. Onta-onta telah berubah menjadi Ferrari, Mercedes, Hummer, dll. Di antara bangunan tinggi di Dubai adalah: Pertama: Burj Dubai atau yang dikenal Burj Khalifa, Merupakan bangunan tertinggi di dunia. Tingginya 818 m, kurang 182 m lagi jadi 1 Km. di dalamnya ada 30.000 rumah dan 9 hotel mewah. Kedua: 10 Hotel tertinggi di dunia, 7 di antaranya ada di Dubai. Lima hotel tertinggi; JW Marriott Marquis Dubai (355 m), Rose Rayhaan (333 m), Burj Al Arab (321 m) hotel termewah di dunia, Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel (309 m), The Address Downtown Dubai (306 m), semuanya ada di Dubai. Ketiga: Shopping Mall terbesar di dunia adalah Dubai Mall dengan luas 50 kali luas lapangan sepak bola dan terdapat 1.200 toko. Di dalamnya ada akuarium terbesar di dunia yang isinya 33.000 hewan laut. Keempat: al-Maktoum International Airport atau Dubai International Airport merupakan bandara terluas ke-3 di dunia. Kelima: Dubailand. Sekarang Walt Disney World Resort di Orlando memegang rekor taman bermain terluas di dunia. Kalau pembangunan Dubailand rampung, maka taman yang luasnya dua kali lipat Walt Disney ini akan memegang rekor baru. Masih banyak lagi gedung-gedung tinggi dan bangunan-bangunan yang ‘wah’ di Dubai. Ada menara kembar Emirates Tower yang bentuknya seperti dua batang cokelat Toblerone. Hotel bawah laut di kedalam 33 m. Gedung 68 lantai, yang tiap lantainya bisa berputar 360°. Belum lagi pulau buatannya seperti The World terdapat 300 pulau buatan membentuk peta dunia. Kemudian juga Palm Island yang terdapat 2000 vila dan 40 hotel mewah. Belum lagi kendaraan super mewah. Anda masih berpikir orang Arab identik mengendarai onta? Ubah segera perspektif lama itu. Di Dubai, mobil mewah berlapis perak dan emas pun ada. Sampai-sampai polisi Dubai layak disebut World’s Fastest Police karena kendaraan mereka McLaren MP4-12C, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley, dan Ferrari. Mereka yang dulu miskin, telanjang kaki, tak berbaju itu telah membuktikan kebenaran sabda Nabi ﷺ. Pelajaran: Penulis tidak menginginkan pembaca hanya terpaku dan terhenti dalam khayalan, membayangkan kemegahan Duai. Bukan itu pesan yang ingin disampaikan. Cobalah renungkan Sabda Nabi ﷺ. Bernarlah apa yang beliau kabarkan. Hal itu pula menunjukkan mukjizat beliau. Beliau mengabarkan tentang sesuatu yang akan terjadi di masa yang akan datang. Orang yang hidup di masa tersebut akan menyaksikannya. Beliau mengabarkan tentang orang-orang miskin berlomba-lomba meninggikan bangunan. Hal itu telah terjadi. Dan kita telah menjadi saksinya. Beliau mengabarkan tentang turunnya Nabi Isa, keluarnya Dajjal, Ya’juj dan Ma’juj, hal ini pun pasti terjadi. Orang yang hidup di zamannya akan menjadi saksinya. Dan beliau ﷺ mengabarkan tentang kenikmatan surga dan kengerian neraka, orang yang percaya sebelum mereka menyaksikannya, merekalah orang yang beruntung dan berbahagia. Orang yang baru percaya ketika menyaksikannya, mereka benar-benar dalam penyesalan dan duka cita yang mendalam. “Saat ini, dunia itu nyata dan neraka hanyalah cerita. Visiting Dubai isn't as expensive as it sounds. Flights from the East coast of the US are only about $1,200 and $60-$100 hotels are REALLY easy to find. The conversion rate it 1usd to 3.6 (or so) aed too. I mean, you may not be able to afford 5 star hotel's and private tours but if you plan ahead and save up your money, you will be able to have a great time and visit all of the sights!
