Welcome to Elora, Ontario - The Village Trapped in Time.
A quaint community located in the township of Wellington County, Elora is best known for its luxurious Elora Old Mill & Spa. That's certainly not all it has to offer though!
The extant five-storey Elora grist mill was built in 1832, and through its history housed a sawmill, distillery and flour mill. In the 1970s, it became a hotel called the Elora Mill Inn, which closed in 2010.
In July 2018, after a $27 million renovation, the new Elora Mill Hotel & Spa opened, offering over 170 jobs to the community, and making Elora a destination for visitors across Canada and the world.
Also as iconic as the Old Mill are the Victoria Street Bridge, and the Metcalf Badley Bridge.
The Victoria Street Bridge was first built in 1843, again in 1871, and then lastly as a Pratt struss bridge in 1899. It's since been rebuilt in its current form, which was opened recently in 2019.
The Elora Gorge and its Conservation Area are at the edge of town. The park offers canoeing, paddleboat rentals, hiking, camp-grounds, fishing and picnicking. Some of the limestone cliffs are towering at 80 feet high. At the eastern end of the village is the Elora Quarry Conservation Area, a scenic former limestone quarry, and is now a popular swimming area.
In the summer there are festivals, a farmers market, and more!
