There is no right answer and ill tell you why. Through my life experiences, I've been homeless before. I spoke with many other homeless when I was and probably 70% of those I talked to, were homeless cause they wanted to be. They didn't want a job, didn't want to pay rent, and they stood on corners making hundreds of dollars a day begging. They ate great, they drank merrily, and life was basically a big camping trip for them. I couldn't stoop down to such a low. Call it pride, dignity, even self respect, but I sat outside a temp agency at 5am every morning for 2 weeks until they had a job for me. I saved all I could and got off the streets. Been holding on ever since.

The homelessness is not a new phenomenon. Back in the early 1900s we had a depression and homeless people were everywhere. They had encampments on the edge of all the large towns by the railroad tracks. The homeless stole food to eat, clothes to wear and anything else they could find. When the problem reached epidemic proportions the railroad cops came down hard and busted these people's heads, destroyed their hobo camps and ran all of them out of town. Those who refused to leave met an undesirable fate. Since then there are only a handful of part time hobos. Make no mistake they will still bust your head. What they are doing in Venice Beach to clean up the problem is the right approach but no one owes these durtbags anything.

When the local residents see this in front of their homes, and go right on eating breakfast at a cafe, you have Disturbia Meets WokeTardia. At some point, we'll be following the Brazilian Method for cleaning out the favelas to deal with the homeless issue. The people who, right now, see what's going on in Venice as perfectly normal, are going to, at some point, see this as a threat. That's when you'll see the Brazilian Method. In RI, we had something similar to what Rachel was doing with the showers, and it was an unmitigated failure. Homeless people could get a fresh, hot shower every day (which is considerably more than what Rachel is able to do on her own), socks, underwear, along with a hygiene kit, all paid for by the taxpayer, and they were COMPLAINING. They basically got what they wanted, then went right back to doing whatever made them homeless in the first place. They showed no interest in upgrading themselves to get themselves out of what made them homeless. Then they really started complaining when the shower program got cut.

Bad news for parasite public officials in the long run. They have made the host sick and now terminal. You are looking at the homeless problem through YOUR lens. You gotta realize many of these people enjoy this lifestyle. They wouldn't move into "affordable housing" if you gave it to them. They wouldn't enroll in a work program if you gave it to them. Doing drugs all day and hanging out with your friends? No responsibilities. Not everyone has ambition to do more. And there a LOT of people getting rich off raising money for the homeless problem. I've said for years, the wide open land off interstate 15 towards las vegas is ample enough to build a homeless community. The land would cost much less than in the metro areas. Multiple mom and pop contractors could work together, without ties to the politicians, building shed like dwellings. Maybe solar. The site would provide job training, detox, mental illness care or just live out their lives. Interns could be used to administer the care, keeping cost down. Duputies just out of the academy could police it.. This would help the homeless, benefit property owners, help young people just out of college gain job experience and show the world America isn't a 3rd world country.
@tomaguilar79743 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with one change. Instead of the desert it could be Humboldt county where they can live in the forest. They can set up tents, grow the land and have nice shade. In other communities, Virginia I think, homeless have set up communities in the forest where they didn't bother anyone and nobody bothered them. Others from outside would come into their communities to help with food, water, and volunteer services for them.
