@@finaloption... America is exactly like many Western European countries where refugee agencies and other social programs geared for toward them administer social housing. It's like this in both America and other Western countries for corporations have a powerful voice using political lobbies for beneficial policies such as bringing in low cost immigrant labor. The social housing and other affordable options for regular US citizens is way too inadequate for there's simply not enough to go around so we have a big housing crunch. Years ago in the 80's and earlier, there was more than enough to go around to house all of our citizens and rents and house prices were very reasonable setting a very patriotic vibe to the nation among most of the people. It totally sucked but I knew if I didn't stick with it, I would be on the street! That job almost killed me but no one came by to give me any pity for my suffering. Tell me, why should I feel sorry for the street people that did all they wanted to do and didn't conform to "normal" rules that most of us follow? Sure, those with mental disabilities, or those that need a hand up to get back on track, we must take care of such individuals. But, able bodied lazy people, I have no pity. The Bible says "don't work, don't eat". The sad part is we must work hard and save while we are young and employable, once we are past 50 life gets hard... those on the street past 50 are practically in a hopeless situation. Kids must be taught in school that there are ways to not end up living on the street.

Social housing is a starting point for many in extremes rich countries. Not everyone has the support of balanced family households, not everyone is well educated, ... the list goes on. If you are happy living in a country that does virtually nothing for its people then you will see much more of this disintegration of communities and society. There are numerous very wealthy countries that provide models of governing that produce statistics that puts the USA to shame.

Lol ignorant comment BUT it’s not JUST that, you have to do certain community service jobs every day, you have to have some sort of outlet (I.e AA meeting, NA meeting, Religious meeting) you have to leave the shelter at 9 am and return by 5 pm (so you can only use the shelter from 5 pm to 9 am and you can’t return after 5 pm or else you can’t get in) you really become a number and lose all personal freedoms, it’s dumb, I wouldn’t want to live in one if I had the option not too.

First off, the reason you have so many homeless in California is because you have a nice climate. So people are flocking there from other states. My guess is that probably half of these homeless are able bodied. Farmers across America cannot get reliable labourers at wages they can afford to pay. Why can’t the government set up a program to transport these able bodied workers to these farm jobs?
