Enjoyed the video! Very informative, and professionally done, felt like a documentary you might see on TVNZ. Very cool to learn the history of the place. Sounds like it was when times were hard and people were tough. Although it is a bit of a shame those podocarp forests where the "wood" bit comes from are gone now. I'm surprised Norwegians didn't really settle down in Fiordland, they would have felt right at home, but I suppose the land is too hard to work with there. Wow, a Viking festival, I'm going to have to make a road trip to Norsewood one day. My ancestry is Scottish, Italian and English, however I became interested in all things Norwegian after I recorded a Norwegian lullaby. (More specifically, a heavy metal version of a Norwegian version of a Swedish lullaby, lol). After I released that on KZbin, some Norwegians made requests for some other Scandinavian folk songs, and that sparked my interest. (Still my most popular upload). Oh, by the way, when I visited Stewart Island, I found an old Presbyterian church in Oban that had been built by Norwegians and Scots. Wasn't expecting to see a Norwegian flag hanging up when I walked in there!

The Norwegians who settled in Norsewood was given that land by the English. The English promised them that the land was ready to farm, but when they arrived they was greeted by dense forrests and the locals doing their Haka dance. Some cried and wanted to go back home and some just laughed. Anyhow, they got to work and started clearing land. They also had to build a road for the english as payment for the free boatride there. But the trees was much bigger and tougher than any trees they had ever seen before.
