I survived East NY projects. We last lived at Brownsville before my sister died. I remember the first day we move into the project apartment a guy was shot in the elevator right before we entered it with our furniture. Crazy memories yet Brownsville was about surviving and family. Loyalty and respect. We lived in East NY - Pitkin, Atlantic Ave, and Mother Gaston. Glad to see that previous rivals are now communicating. Anyone that survive living at any of the East NY Projects can make it in any city / hood. After being in the streets of East NY, Bedsty, Crown Heights, and Flatbush I give God thanks for taking me out of the street. After my sister died, I decided to go to college...then I joined the Air Force and that was the best decision I made that changed my life. Respect and thanks for this video.

I hope some day our Black people will wake up and realize that we are all responsible for each other. Harming each other does nothing. Fighting and dying over neighborhoods that no one actually has any ownership of is crazy to me. Nonetheless, Brooklyn has always been my second home. I want to see us correct and build each other up. There is SO MUCH more outside of that 4 block radius and I hope they all have a chance to explore it.
@futuristicbrooklyn12073 жыл бұрын
To put this in perspective, Brownsville has the lowest average lifespan of any neighborhood in New York, and the highest infant mortality rate in the city. There are 18 different housing projects in the neighborhood (the most densely concentrated area of public housing in the U.S.). 30% of its residents are high school graduates and only 8% of the population holds a bachelors degree. 28% of the population lives in poverty. I have always been shocked of the conditions of the neighborhood, but its improved a lot from even 10 years ago, but 2020 changed that along with the rest of the city.

I just came back from NYC from Canada. Straight up I can say you have one of the best cultures in your city. This video symbolizes it. Even in the hood, ya'll working together and that's not happening in a lot of places in the world. So much good from working together with the other blocks. Biggest thing I noticed, is everyone is in their own bubble in NYC. But when you stop to interact with ANYONE, yall are honestly the nicest people. Hood, richer areas, central park.... Night, day. Everyone doing their own thing, but whenever I stopped to talk to anyone, yall were suprised as hell, but so damn nice. Honestly, I love your city so much.

Born and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY. My neighborhood wasn't dangerous like Brownsville, but I was never allowed to go to Brownsville, Bed Stuy or East NY as a kid and I think that's a testament to what the guy in this video is saying. These are very much "If you not from here, don't come here" type of places. All the ba that brings, settling for lesser, seeing you parents stress, the feeling of guilt, feeling you have to do something to help as a kid and the anger it causes. My dad has been working all his life, never had much to show for it. He instilled a work ethic into me, I've been working shitty jobs since 14 and you kinda develop this sence of low self worth.
