My uncle ran dump truck since the early to mid 60’s here in southwestern Ontario canada and I used to ride with him when I was about 9 years old. I loved riding with him in the dump truck. His trucks always looked like it came from the dealership during the work week. He would constantly cleaning it throughout the day when he got a free moment. He really took pride in his equipment. I rode with him every chance I got and I would work on weekends with him cleaning and maintaining the truck. I earned 25 cents an hour. I was a god in school. I always had money and the good candies. lol!! From a 9 year old kid to a grown man I loved hearing every story he told me. I remember them like he just told me. He retired in 2000. His diabetes and knees and hips were really bad by then. Getting in that cab over and over day in and out all took a toll on him. It wasn’t t until he passed a few years ago I was told about the pain he was in. He was a proud and tough man. He would do paving during the warmer weather and while all the guys on the road crew were collecting pogie and drinking it all away he would send out tenders to salt and sand the highways here. He had well over 3 million miles from driving.

Lived in Hanover, Mass from 1954-81. Watched Autocar and Mack trucks build the road bed for what is now Route 3 to the Cape. During the Winter of 1978 those same trucks were the ones that cleared that same road during the Blizzard of 78' and rescued many people stuck in the snow. Cold, hot and primitive and a "bear" to drive. Once these "babies" got warmed up you never saw a driver with a window closed because of the heat coming off the engine bay. There was little heat protection with those thin firewalls. Regardless of how primitive they were they got the job done. Thanks for bringing back so many fond memories of me and my brother hanging out each day watching the road to the Cape being built. I am envious of the fun I am sure someone will have returning this Autocar back to their previous glory. All the best and thanks so much for your hard work videoing and editing. Has to be tough after a full day at work. All the best in 2022 and keep that beautiful KW shining.

Thanks for the lowboy lesson! We rented one of them once from Hale. Someone else brought it to our yard...first time I hooked to it I had NO CLUE how to operate it (actually I might not even have got hooked to it) It had a pony motor (I didn't have a wet line) Somebody had to school me on how to make everything work... We were on a job down in Providence once. Flett had a truck like that sitting on the site. It was in our way, but they weren't on site. The key was in it, our foreman asked me to move it so I did...but don't tell anybody😉

Hi Michael Lenny from Connecticut checking in. There was an icon of a concrete and construction company in NYC going back as far as the early 1900,s called Colonial Sand & Stone. The family name was the Pope family. The father was an Italian immigrant. The company he gave birth to built NYC and all of the Hi Rise, Office buildings and road projects in and around the surrounding areas. They had a fleet second to known. They even built there own trucks. If I said they had over 250 mixes and dumpers mostly mixers it wouldn’t be off by much. They had a massive shop which took up an entire city block in LIC, N.Y. There they fabricated, welded, painted and serviced all of there equipment, they did everything you could do on a piece of equipment. There mixers were so big and heavy they use to bend and buckle the NYC sewer caps which were 6 inch thick solid steel. The city used to complain all of the time. This was before over weight permits I believe.. My point in all of this is there AUTOCARS were something to see. Look them up and I know you and your followers would enjoy. As far as appearance they were a leader with there image. There trucks were clean simple and strong. There colors were an olive green with red mixed in and red rims and wheels. The tire size was 1200:24. They would put the truck # up on the left side front of the mixers water tank. A picture would show you what I mean. Michael I have many stories about trucks and memories. I hold them near and dear to me. My purpose of this was to say something about the beautiful AUTOCAR TRUCKS. A true work horse alongside of a MACK. Mack’s, Brockways and Autocars did it for me but the Autocars had a look and style that was beautiful and intimidating. An Autocar can kick ass as good as any Mack or Brockway. I always loved the look of there front fenders that were squared off. They made a round fender also on a certain model but the squared off style was it for me. I believe most of there models had the squared off style. Hats off to an American Icon.

In many ways the state is the reason so much old iron exists around here. Worth it to keep these trucks on the road earning (and very good money too) than letting it rust somewhere. During snow storms you see so much old iron on the roads sometimes it's like a traveling truck show.

For years I have been looking for one of those A-Cars. The company that I was working for in 1967 had bought three new ones together. They had quad boxes. In the sixties Peterbilt had a development program underway planning a new model to go after more of the rough service market. The temporary code name for the truck was " Autocar Killer". Thanks for the video, very interesting. I will be looking for more on the A-car.

Hi Mike! You're doing it again! You and Tony brought fond memories to mind in this video. First of all that Autocar is very similar to one my uncle Leon from Billerica had. His had a 220 Cummins with 5+3 transmissions. When I was 14 Uncle Leon hired me to help him screen loam during summer vacations and when I was 17 I started making deliveries for him. Indeed it was slow, but it got the job done. Tony mentioned that along with B-81s and Autocars, International 230s were commonly seen on job sites in and around Boston. My uncle Frank from Burlington at one time had 3 International 230s that I also drove from time to time. ❤️

Shields out of Southbridge Mass. doing sewer pipe around Mass, and Conn. He had a fleet of Autocar's mostly old with a fairly new tractor for the lowbed. It was a learning experience for sure !!! Had to stuff tail gate with old cement bags if you hauled 3/4" stone or it would be everywhere LOL !! Neat old truck you have there it will be interesting to watch the progress ! John Taylor

Interesting! What did they do with the bags after they dumped? Thank you ☺️ & Happy New Year!

The 3/4" stone was just to cover pipe so it didn't matter. I saw you videos while looking for cabovers on truck show videos. I have kind of a cool day cab 1994 Freightliner cabover that we converted from a tractor to a flatbed with heavy pintle hook hitch. I pull all my paving equipment , dozer and backhoe with it daily on a new Interstate trailer. I have a ball with it ! I would show you pics but I guess you can't load them on here. John

I messaged the lady on that truck when she first posted it. Was rather surprised when it went back up after supposedly selling in the first 12 hours.

I have no idea about that but trucks like these I imagine don't stay in the market very long.

Your channel almost makes me miss trucking. The dirt work guys I drove for would yell if I brought my camera just to take photos. Get yelled at for washing the truck, except by one employer who felt I should wash and grease the tractor and trailer on my own time.
