As a professional rigger with over 10 years experience in the field. Get rid of the wire rope hoist and go to a chain one. Way more reliable. You also won't have to redo the wire rope all the time. As you wind that thing up and down, it kinks the strands and eventually will start to break individual wires within the strand eventually causing failure if you're not inspecting it all the time. A chain hoist will take the lickin' and keep on tickin' And if you ever want custom tie downs made for specific application DM me. Can do fire retardant protector pads for the dyno if need be as well. Congratulations with the new shop acquisition and can't wait for more content!

Having built a few shops in my day, worked in a lot of well laid out, and not so well laid out shops and having been a builder for 50 years, here's my suggestions: Engine room: with the dirty environment from fabing, etc, make the engine room a positive pressure room. Vent the room, and pump filtered air into the room, so there is always a positive pressure in the room, compared to outside the room. Instead of trying to seal the room to keep stuff out, the positive pressure forces the filtered air out of the room, instead of dust infiltrating into the room. Won't cost a fortune, and will work well. If you get really anal about it, double door the two doorways. That way, when you open a door, it doesn't get blown in your face, if it opens out, or is hard to open if it opens in. Cutting Room off to side: Put up one of those plastic strips doorways like they use in walk-in coolers, or such between the main shop and the dirty room. Easy to get through, but will keep the grindings and other shit out of the main shop. I'm adding a dirty room to my shop, this Summer; my sanders, buffers, bench grinders, sand blasting cabinet, all the stuff that produces 'grit' or dust goes out there. The cold saw can stay in the main shop, as well as the lathe, Bridgeport, the horizontal mill style tubing machine and drill press, cause they are all cutting oil users. Speaking of which. I assume you have 3 phase power already. If you want a 3 phase cutting oil tank and cutting oil recycler, I'll give it to you. Just pay for the shipping from Oregon. It's a small foot print, 3' x 4' and has a small conveyor belt sluice box like gold miners use to separate swarf from the cutting oil, so the oil can be re-used. It has a pump built-in, so you put it by the lathe, mill, cold saw, etc, and plumb it to them for your cutting oil supply. You'll be 'uptown' w/ this unit. A local machinery sales company gave it to me a few years ago, after they messed up and scrapped an Italian punch press I wanted to buy from them. They felt bad, and gave me some old inventory as a way of apology. Buying the press punch from them was doing them a favor, on top of it, so they felt real bad, and were very generous. Industrial oil recyclers are about 8-10,000, new; it's a serious piece of industrial equipment, and will save you dollars in cutting oil. I also have a massive older Lincoln MIG/Stick welder; a 3 phase 325 amp serious welder. It's set up right now with 0.048" wire, so if you want to build/repair something like a trailer, crane, you know... 1/2" thick welding this is THE unit. It is big, it is ugly, but it is all copper, inside. I bought it because it has a long lead between the box and the divorced MIG gun and a long extension cord. Between the extension cord for it, (50 amp), and the divorced MIG unit, it would weld 115' from the plug. I got it for the cost of the extension cord to the welder, (I'm keeping the extension cord), so I'll give you the damn thing if you want a piece of big welding equipment, free, (well shipping will ding you a bit.) Your new place would be a good home for both the units. They'll last you a lifetime. The welder's on a very nicely built wheeled cart, and moves easily. I just can't pull it to Florida, though! (you might find a subscriber driving from the NW to Florida with a pick-up or trailer, and get it hauled for nothing. Couldn't be a mini-truck, though... a real truck, 3/4 ton, at least.) Re: old walls Insulate the hell out of the space and sheet rock it with exterior grade sheetrock. Not the 'green' sheetrock for bathrooms, which is water resistant. This is grey and is rated to be used outside; worth the extra cost, 'cause it's humid ass Florida. Sheetrock all the way to 8' feet off the floor. Put plywood, (pre-paint it on both sides, 'case it's wet ass Florida), up to the eight foot, where the sheet rock ended. It's perfect for shelves, cabinets etc, down the road. Make it 3/4" and you can hang anything on it, without needing to 'find a stud". On the lower four feet of the plywood, put up sheet metal. Something like 18, or 16 gauge, The when something falls over, or someone backs into a well, or you're welding, cutting, etc, you won't have to worry about fire, or putting a hole in the wall. With the plywood behind it, it will make anchoring gas cylinders to the wall a breeze. It's a commercial building, so all the wiring will go in conduit on the exterior of the wall, anyway. You can do water supply the same way, and also it'll make plumbing air piping easier with the plywood behind the metal. You will spend a bit extra doing it this way, but you'll appreciate the extra insulation, and be ready for the A/C, you'll eventually add, (you know you will). The extra costs, now, will make you life easier, and be an investment. The crane: I had a shop with a crane like that. If you can find an old post hoist, put in the ground in the arc of the crane. If you have to pull or put an engine in, put it on the hoist to get to the underneath, then pull the engine and trans in one piece. Have a bench built within the arc of the crane, so you can set, or pick up, the engine & trans on it. Separate them at bench height, then mount the spinny part of an engine stand on the end of the bench. After the engine & trans are split, use the crane to move the engine to the stand. I sent you an email at your cleetus.com about something I'm making for you to fix the axle bolt problem in Ruby and Leroy, once and for all. Email if you have any questions about the shop ideas, or if you want the oil recycler or welder. Consider them shop warming gifts; I'm proud of you boys, and envious, as hell; you're living the life. @@andber Thanks... I've found it make life much more enjoyable and rewarding to be nice than to be a dick... LOL Glad you found it interesting enough to read. I'm envious of Cleetus and James, as well as many of the car builder/racing channels being supported by KZbinrs. Back in my day, You had to run fast to get sponsors, and without money to build and maintain a fast car, you couldn't get sponsors. Now, with KZbin and subscribers, I see guys break parts on their cars, and need 3-4,000 for a new part, and subscribers buy enough merchandise over the weekend, that by Tuesday, they have the money to buy the part(s). Happened on the PFI Speed channel. Hell, when PFI Speed lost their shop a couple years ago, a GoFund me account was started and enough money was donated to buy the shop PFI and the Boosted Boiz share. That brought tears to my eyes to see. (To show what kind of guy 'Cleetus' is, he donated 10,000, I heard.) When I was drag racing in the '60's & '70's, I really wanted to go pro. Back then, if you were looking for sponsors, you'd build a car and scrape together enough money to get to Pomona, CA for the WInternationals, (the start of the NHRA season.). If you painted your car completely white, all everyone knew you were looking for sponsors. You'd race your heart out for the week, and if you got noticed, the sponsors would stop by your pit, and talk. Different world, different times. I was a year away from going to Pomona. Had a truck, had spare engine, lots of spare parts, and a '57 Chev 2 door station wagon D/Gas, (C/Gas on the best days) drag car. I was working my ass off on my summer break from college to make enough money to buy a trailer, and some safety gear. While I was gone working, my car was stolen, and I lost it all; no insurance. That was the end of my drag racing dreams. They have a chance to build a dream shop; hopefully they'll use some of my suggestions. They'll appreciate them, if they do. I had a dream shop in the '80's with a crane & bench setup just like I described. It was a breeze to pull and replace motors. GeoD

That was the longest AND the second longest comments I’ve ever read 😂 I know what you mean about this crew! It is blatantly obvious even through a camera that they are genuinely good darn folks. Did they ever take you up on any of your offers or reach out to you in any way?
@georgedennison33383 ай бұрын
@@curtis026 No... but, in the end they've done a few things I suggested. When I wrote those, I didn't realize, (it wasn't obvious), Garrett had a lot more cash flow than he let on. I was under the assumption he strapped himself to buy the FF. I did make a suggestion to him right after he bpught the FF, but he didn't understand what I was talking about. In the real estate world there's a contract called a First Right of Refusal. I suggested he & Vic swap FRoR's on the drag strip & FF. What it would do is protect each of them & their families if something happened to either of them. If Vic crashed & burned, the FRoR would mean Bradenton could not be sold to anyone without Garrett saying yes, he'd buy it, or no he wouldn't buy it. That would protect the business relationship between the FF & BMP. The opposite would be true for Vic. When people die, family can do some bizarre or selfish stuff, I'm old enough to have seen it a LOT. An heir of Vic's may think all racing is a horrible environmental threat & sell the track to developers or turn it into a protected area for animsls. That would devastate Cleetus McFarlane Enterprises. Vic wouldn't want that & neither would Garrett want Vic to be harmed, if he died, causing FF to be ended. The business are much stronger together, especially now that the FF is so successful. (I anticipated it would be.) It was/is a solid business maneuver, they pay each other a buck for the 1st Rights, ($ must change hands to mske a contract legal.), but Garrett didn't get far enough in law school to understand what I was suggesting & he responded strangely, showing he didn't get it. He said, But Vic is a good friend of mine, why would I do that? ('That' being trade FRoR). Garrett's went on to get some good, older advisors, (Allen, the RC guy is one), & Frank manages the FF facility for him. I was being protective of a young kid I saw going places, so I took the time to give him the best advice I could, based on the businesses & adventures I've gotten into, in my life. I was born 40-50 yrs too soon for YT; I lived a YT kinda life, but those around me were the only witnesses, not several million people. The big difference is how readily $ & sponsorships/tools-parts-equipment is obtained. When I started out in drag racing, put a car & effort together to 'Go Pro', the commonly accepted method was to paint your car white & go to Pomona for the Winternationals & race your ass off to try & make an impact. The manufacturers knew what an all white car meant & if anyone was interested in throwing something your way, they'd show up in your pit. It'd been done like that for 20 some years by the time I was 20 something & wanting to get serious about racing. Fortunately, I knew some older guys who campaigned a national record holder gasser in the '60's. They mentored me & let me work on the new car they were building when I was 16. Learned a LOT. Later, GeoD

Pressurize that engine room with some HEPA's to reduce particle generation. Install either returns in the room or just some dampers to regulate the pressure. You don't need much pressure to keep the room clean and if you install returns from the room back to the blower/fan, you can increase air turns and reduce total particle count.

Add solar panels to the roof of the shop. It will cool the tin on top thus cooling the interior and supply all the power to run most of the housekeeping loads in your shop. My power bill is min of $9.00 a month due to the monitoring cell system so far of $14.00 max.
