Good video. I do not use lathes but the Colchester brand appears to have an excellent reputation. Road trips to collect good kit are always worthwhile, although usually tiring. Much easier when you fly one way and drive back😊! Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.

Sunday. Coffee at my side… Enjoying the video update. Thanks for allowing us to join you on this adventure. It may not seem like much to you, but it’s a nice / appreciated mental break - plus, I’ve never been on that side of the pond, and what better way to get a glimpse of the land than with some tool, vehicle adventures. Thank you! All the best with the new tool!

Video update did not disappoint! Thank you Sophie. So excited for you and the adventures to ensue in the workshop with this new piece of kit! I firmly believe when we take on challenges like working on vehicles out of passion, it can only enrichen our character. My commendation to you for expanding your skills. ☺ A little story if you'll have it; your videos and channel were a core inspiration for me to start on my current, and most in-depth project to date. The restoration of a 1990 Isuzu Trooper. I have imported a 4JB1 (2.8 TD 4cyl) with a 5 speed trans. which I am refurbishing and later installing into this frame-off restoration. My grandfather had a Trooper he bought brand new in 1991. It was a core piece in my childhood memories when we would go camping in the Rocky mountains as a family. My grandfather is soon to be 92 years old now, and my plan is to restore this '90 to his '91's likeness. So to then take him camping for as long as we still can. Returning the favor of good memories spent together in the mountains. So, thank you Sophie.😊

Nice looking lathe, Sophie !! Looks like a great mid range machine. Glad it hadn't been sitting outside. I just retired after working many years as a machinist and metal fabricator. If you can someday, a vertical mill would really come in handy for what you do. Please stay safe and God bless you and yours. Eddy

Great stuff Sophie. You are a marvel. The work you've done on your vehicles means I am very much looking forward to seeing how you will refurb and use this lathe. I can tell you will be good just by how you are talking about it. There are a few of us in the UK now with machining channels, myself imcluded. Any questions just ask. Doubleboost (John Mills) has an excellent archive of useful films. That Colchester is absolutely superb. I hope it came with lots of accessories. Best wishes to you. You are really something.

Thank you for the video Sophie. Seeing a Colchester lathe brought back memories of my time as an engineering apprentice during the 1960s! I spent many hours using a Clochester 'Student' - I see that they still make a model under that name but its much modernised! About 20 years ago I had the opportunity to purchase a 1960s Harrison L5A lathe; fortunately I still had a lot of things like micrometers, callipers etc from my days on the shop floor. One thing that I had to get to run the machine was a phase converter since the motor is three phase and I only have a normal domestic connection. Best of luck with all your engiineering endeavours - there's nothing like using good tools and machines and making things! Best wishes.

Congratulations on your new lathe! If you haven’t already, make sure you get safety training. Lathes are one of the most useful machines in a machine shop and they can also be the most deadly. You definitely need to make sure you have your hair held down with something that will not come loose. We had a student who was killed while using the lathe in the Yale school machine shop here in Connecticut.

This has to be a sign Sophie.... Both on the way down and back, You showed just one road sign The A 41for Solihull.. That is exactly where I was born...... Very near to the Rover Factory as was..... Spooky or what... And now (I don`t know exactly where you live, but I know your accent) we live just a few miles apart...... And with me needing help with my P 38...... It was Meant to be..... lol..... Well maybe....... Your workshop is coming on well.... Better than working in your downstairs Toilet!!! Take care and keep up the Great work.... :-)) xxx ps: over the last 40 years I have collected a Snap-on toolbox full of tools..... I would Love for it to go to a Nice person that will get a lot of use out of them. I bought the Box brand new in Canada in 1985 and I hate to part with it, but Ill health means I need the money..... If you are interested just let me know... :-))

Great video, very good lathes them. Only bit of advice, get some overalls that fit, the baggy ones you wear are lethal near a lathe, a split second from pulling your arm into it.

Thank you for watching and for the advice! Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of overalls that are not baggy and my hair is always kept out of the way - I completely understand how dangerous they can be if not used with caution ☺️

Hi Sophie just to emphasise safety keep that nice long hair well out of the way of the rotating chuck!! Saw a few experienced machinists (mostly blokes with long hair we are talking 1970s here) scalped by leaning over machines. You cant be to careful! On a lighter note well done and keep the vids coming.
