I'll never forget going through those gates. My stomach felt heavy as the realization of what I'm about to do set in for real. It was an amazing rush of fear and excitement of the unknown all at once. I never felt like I had to regret it though being I've always had an adventurous heart and I'm afraid of being afraid to do new things, I was still proud of myself and was more than ready to test myself. No second thoughts (that comes after in the fleet lmao). Before the bus stopped though I remember a petty officer stood up at the front and said, "Don't be nervous. Be proud! You've gotten farther than most people ever could." Those words still resonate with me today and just as powerful. Then we stepped off the bus and hoofed it inside as the RDCs screamed at us to move our asses. There was no lollygagging going on. You had to MOVE and move now! Don't speak! Listen! Stand at attention! Put your thumbs downward with the seam of your pants! Oh man, the chaos they created when you first go in really shows you who you are to yourself. Then one day I saw my ship, the carrier I lived on for the next five years, and I had only a single weekend to learn what I could and I shipped off for the Persian Gulf on my third day in the fleet. What a rush! Nothing has compared to that yet.

Yo, these reaction videos are so good, keep them up!!! It's crazy because I left the navy in 1997 and it's all the same, makes me feel 22 again, lol. I also went to Great Lakes and was an airman stationed on an aircraft carrier. My only advice, don't get out unless you have a rock-solid plan. I'm a happy special ed teacher now but it took me 6 years of college to figure out what I wanted to be, lol.

Confession time: I never made it through bootcamp. I separated a few weeks in because I honestly couldn't handle it. Looking back on it, I think my biggest problem was going through P days TWICE. I got asmoed back a week due to missing the physical test when I had a medical appointment. I went through the worst week twice and it messed up my perception of bootcamp

Hey: US NAVY Master-at-Arms here (2002-2012). Bro, your comment about P-Days is true. If you can make it past P-Days you can make it past boot camp. Oh and the boot camp story about the kid who flipped off his Chief on the bus and he was ASMO’d back to P-Days is true. He wound up in our division with our Chief he flipped off. Division 211 (March - June 2002).

I went to boot in 1975 and it was nothing like this. This is nursery school level compared to the cussing four letter names we were treated with. You would literally be physically assaulted with fists if you got out of line or didn't move fast enough. Boot back then boot was like going to prison doing hard time.
