This video brought back many memories. I was a DAC RN at the old Walter Reed on Georgia Avenue on Ward 57. It was strictly an Ortho Unit. The Head Nurse was LTC Allan Girling. Working at Walter Reed was the Pinicle of my nursing career and I enjoyed every day I was there. It took me two years to get hired as I had only been an RN for 2 years..Not enough experience .. eventually they hired me as a GS 7...The 91 C'harlies and 91Bravos were great to work with. Unit 57 was like a family as some of the soldiers were in patients a long time. When the holidays came and the young lower ranks could not go home, different members of the staff would take them to their home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Walter Reed was so close to DC, the physicians would give them day passes to go to the Mall for the day. These were usually the hand patients who had to have extensive surgery due to being injured in battle . During the summer we would admit kids who needed back surgery due spine issues and Dr. Polly was the surgeon who cared for them. Walter Reed on Georgia was an outstanding hospital but eventually closed as it was said it would take more money to update it ...I worked there from ,91 until ,94...I regret the day I left. And the military at that time was. Very obliging in the education of their civilian RN's.. I could have studied towards my BSN but I was afraid I would not succeed . But I did well with my ADN . Being an RN at Walter Reed Army Medical Center will always be the high lite of my nursing career. Vivian R. Evans. RN. ADN. AA .. .

I live in #Bethesda and didn't know about this. My Grandma used to work at Walter Reed in #DC, right there on Georgia Avenue

Looks rally nice, but is it wise to join everything up, what happens when this hospital is out of action due to terrorism or God forbid war, hopefully nothing like that happens, its like back in the cold War days when Russia was sending nuclear missiles to Cuba, Russia admitted afterwards they could have wiped out most of the USA military when the usa sent all there military personnel and equipment to Florida as a staging place for an invasion of Cuba incase it all went wrong. I don't know im no military expert. I just wish there was no wars and the world finally comes together and putting great minds at work on pandemic and epidemiology ect. Astronomy to find a way to change course on an asteroid on a path towards earth, expand humans from each to ensure we exist if anything catastrophic here on earth, planets suns etc don't last forever. All countries top engineers and scientists are all working for the military on military technologies, just think what we could have achieved by now if they were working on cancer and all our other problems. How do we fix that? No superpowers on this planet are going to say "we will go first and get rid of our nukes and start downsizing the military" humans have fought from day one so maybe we will never change its probably implanted into us to us. Godd bless all the injured soldiers and everyone especially in these times of a global crisis of international concern, i bet you never thought a pandemic would hit your door step, I never anyway. this is b.s., i was a corpsman at NAVAL HOSPITAL BETHESDA, and since the army f'up walter reed, they had to take over Bethesda Naval Hospital, now the army is going to f'up bethesda

Get off your high Navy horse! It all came down to money. That only thing Bethesda had going was the President hospital and one patient was not paying the bills. The old WR had the business and Bethesda has the real estate and room. That's it in a nut shell!
