we are showing you the little Wanmai and her mother. the mother is Mae Mai, we rescued her from the ridding camp by helping from Save Elephant foundation. Wan Mai was born on the second of May at Elephant Nature Park. and now she is almost a month. when a mother gives birth to a baby, she needs rest. So now we are introducing the nanny to look after the baby and let her mother rest. Srinuan is grandmother, she loves a baby so she dominates her self to be a nanny.

I see mommy was very itchy today. It is almost the same in the African Elephants. They are called Allomothers. Their baby ellies can have 4 or 5 of them. The babies also suckle from them just no milk. Thank you so much for your video and kindness and love to these beautiful gentle giants. ❤❤🐘🐘🐘❤❤

The nanny doesn’t give milk. Lek said that the shape of the nanny’s breasts changed when the baby started to “suckle” and she said that the baby got milk, then revised and said that it isn’t milk. I’ve seen orphaned African elephant babies taken into a wild/tame herd and the baby “suckles” on several females as a way of belonging and getting comfort. They let the baby do it, but the baby still needs several huge bottles of formula every day, bc she’s not getting any nourishment from the females.

I've enjoyed many hours of watching Fa Mai, Kavaan, Wan Mai, Pyi Mai, Chaba, all the young elephants growing up, but Srinuan is nearly always there with her steady watchful calmness. The babies love her, the mothers love her. She is such a constant force. There should be a video where she is the star, showing where she came from, and what babies she has helped raise.

So sad for Sri Nuan but so happy for her that she is so trusted and loved by mothers and babies alike. The nanny-mother-baby relationship is just mind-boggling. You can look at it in a way where the mother makes a huge sacrifice by spending two years creating and delivering that baby and then along comes this altruistic female who sacrifices everything just to assist the mother to nurture that child.
