I have repaired cast iron, but my favorite way is Silicon Bronze with a MIG or TIG. Cleaning is very very important. Also I recommend you buying a needle scaler.

I'm doing the same thing. I mean the slowly switching to mobile welding. I got so happy when I heard that you are doing it too. Best of luck man.🔥🧑‍🏭👍

Hello again young man. Fein is good stuff, they do make tools for construction too because it crosses over. The Fein Multi-tool is a great example along with drills, and other stuff. Did you know, Fein invented the handheld portable, mains powered drill? That part came off a planter for planting young cabbage plants for example not seeds. The part is made from cast steel and that is why the bit wasn't broken off completely, it's ductile to a certain degree. Grey cast iron breaks off cleanly. You can identify cast by doing a spark test with an angle grinder too. You can Mig weld or stick weld that all day long. ER70-S6 wire or 7018-S sticks. I do a lot of heavy plant (digger buckets, dozer blades, shredder screens and stone crusher repairs and some general fabrication. I had another channel on here showing a lot of my work but it got shadow banned by YT, COVID jabberoo stuff l shared. I recommend you follow and or subscribe to; I C WELD, Welderfabber, NBS Welding, On Fire Welding, Hell n Back Welding and Cutting Edge Engineering Australia. Absolutely brilliant guys. I am on Instagram as JonRocheMD. Best regards, Jon

I find using stringer beads, rather than a weave is a stronger repair. Puts in less heat too.

I’ve had a lot of success with cast over the years , a lot depends on the cast it’s self and preparation, I’ve a challenge of some cast steel I’ve been putting off at the moment

When in doubt on cast materials such as iron or steel to carbon steel 309 stainless steel or 312 stainless steel has worked really well for me they make it in a stick electrode they also make it in a wire you can also find it in Cut lengths for TIG welding the most precise would be Tig

Good luck with the business and your van is smart. I've done quite a lot of welding on cast iron, get it as hot as you can too start with. Dcen works better than dcep. But best of all is ac. Out of my kemppi mastering 3500 pulse😊. I use Fein too, good stuff. My cordless tools are a little older, but not old, and they've decided to make the batteries obsolete 🤬

Have you tried knocking the flux off the rods and using tig to weld them ?

Good to see your getting on well👍👍 Also good to see somebody else taking safety seriously as far as the RPE goes. But buy yourself a couple of clear grinding face screens rather than just wearing glasses man. Especially using slitting discs for anything other than a straight cut lol. A broken cutting disk or grinding wheel will make a right ol mess of your chops if one goes bang

@morenormal the older 22V stuff worked better than the new. Can't say how the nuron tools perform. I haven't worked with them yet.

Good job! From what I understand about cast-iron welding you need to pre-heat the material properly. That basically means acetylene torch or a heating chamber. I remember around 12 years ago when I welded a cast-iron thing at work. We first tried with stainless steel rods, then basic before finally cast iron. I think it did hold up over time. But the secret sauce in cast iron welding as far as I understand it is to weld the parts after they've had a massive input of heat until the magnetization is gone. Then the welding creates as little internal stresses as possible. I know also have heard that steel-structures that are used in the north sea on oil rigs are often heated up in order to deal with all of the internal stresses in the structures. I see it more and more that structures of steel are always in internal conflict with themselves. Cast parts can still be the same as they do not necessarily cool down at the same rate in the whole part - hence it can also have internal stresses.

Best off pre heating it as evenly as you in an oven, helps prevent cracking. But at the end of the day cast is a twat to weld no matter what you do😂
@kf8575
@kf8575 Жыл бұрын
Once steels reach a temperature of 400 to 800°c (depending on composition) they become fully austenitic hence losing the magnetism from the ferritic structures. Thing is no matter how much you try as far as pre heat and post heat, unlike cast steels which arent too bad, cast iron can be a real pig to weld and that simply cant be changed lol Peening helps a lot too👍
@AutoAgentcoza
@AutoAgentcoza Жыл бұрын
Huge pre heat, weld then peening. More heat and then basically the slowest cool down you can manage. As in make a BBQ and leave the piece on top until the next day...

I thought the TS2700 was 3 phase? How are you liking it compared to the bigger stuff at work?
@Migman2020
@Migman2020 Жыл бұрын
the 2700 can be used on single phase but at much lower amp range and duty cycles. the 3500 model which is the next model up is a sole 3 phase machine
