No bullshit i started to play around/teaching myself how to weld after watching your show. Iv watched many shows where they weld, i have friends who weld, long ago i even went to a vocational school to learn how to weld (for 2 classes smh). I agree with you 100%… Check out the scotch brite clean and strip XT pro disc for your angle grinder. If you buy one I swear you’ll wish you had a 10 pack of them. They rip ass through mill scale, rust and paint and they don’t hardly remove any metal. It’s worth it to me just for the mill scale alone. Great video man, I subscribed and I love your work btw… 👍🏼

If people would read the manual that came with the 110v welder they would know, SP-100 is only capable of welding 1/8” ish in a single pass and that is with flux core .035 and multi pass will get them a bit more. 100 amps is .105 thickness on a single pass. Like the video!!

whey i was little my dad had a portable and did field repairs on farm equipment. his ground clamps were always buggered up from just welding it to the work piece to get a good ground lol

Great video! Easy simple things to make a better fit and finish. Only thing i dont do is anti-spatter spray. And for the ground, if its questionable i clamp a vise grip good and tight, and twist it a little to make it bite into the metal. Then clamp ground onto it. One question, do you ever use a copper block?

Awesome Tips...especially the 110v stuff...some people do dangerous stuff with 110v. I think you could have some metal Welderup gear for sale, like torch holders, Name plates like on the video, etc. cnc plasma is cool, my friend just bought a 4x8 cnc table, can cut 3/4 clean!!

Sounds goofy, but, Butter Pam cooking spray works good as anti spatter. It really keeps the buckshot from sticking where you don’t want it

Brake clean evaporates away 100% in seconds it's only way to make sure surface is perfectly clean and it acts as an etching agent When painting try to TIG weld something without cleaning it with brake clean first tell me how it turns out

the hotwheels hunter us Acetone it is the preferred method to clean tig wire and the steel or aluminum your welding. I’m no expert, but if you check just about any of the weld videos . That’s what you will find them using.

My old boss was stupid about welding. He was always in a hurry to get stuff done. Cut it and weld it. There was never any prep to make it look good and make it right. Even when a customer bought a sheet of 14 or 16 gauge steel, if it had a big rust spot on it too bad, metal is metal and money is money to him. Pissed me off that hed always cut corners to get the most money out of any situation. Worst of all he had a horrible temper and a short one. So it was always his way or no way. Hed always try to start shit with someone and he almost got his ass kicked by a coworker that was twice his size and military.

@@punchinello6537 that is incorrect, not all elements of the cleaner evaporates. when you weld over a cleaner like laquer thinner, the UV light burns what remains on the part turning it into a Chlorinated Gas. brake cleaner and laquer thinner are old school solutions that they have found to be dangerous to your health. I know from personal experience that once i switched from laquer thinner to a cleaner designed for the purpose, i have stopped getting the shivers and hard of breathing..

@@ryanturriff6020 thats 100% false, uv light has nothing to do with anything in this equation, the only way to get a chlorinated gas is to burn a chlorinated brake cleaner which i hope by now people realize is bad, getting shivers and shakes from welding is most likely due to welding aluminium or galvanized steels with out a fresh air hood, as both of those cause cns damage.

I use a dual action sander with 80grit to get the edges of the steel smooth to weld together because a flap disc can wear down your edges easy if your not careful

I’d really like for you to weld me up a nice fuel cell for my mustang. I’m having fuel starvation issues. I’m going to buy a welder this weekend. I’ve welded once at a friend’s shop. I’m going to practice welding floors in my other mustang. Seems like a 110 welder should cut it. Man that woman can shift a truck in your other video.

I love a 110 volt MIG welder for..... Auto-body sheet metal replacement, & nothing else! I see a performance drop just using a 25' cord when I have to, & try to avoid it if vehicle is able to be moved once started project. I have around 250' of extension cord for my 220 volt MIG, yes 250' 1 is 85', 1 is 135' & last is 30' but never used them hooked together, usually reach with 85' or 135'. Eventually when I get truck built I will use this until I can do better. but it works & is paid for.

Yeah man definitely Use only acetone for cleaning metal. It evaporates very quickly and leaves no residue. Ive read about people welding 4 in beads over material that was cleaned with brake cleaner and they dropped dead after 4 in of welding.

Most brake cleaner contains chlorine. Heat it with a welding plasma, and you get poison gas.

I ran out of wire on a job one day had some thin wire in the truck thought I would try that but it blew out constantly and burnt back into the nozzle wrecked a couple of contact tips and ruined my day lol it was a 15kg roll and I threw it in the bin when I got home and never used it again. luckily here in Australia the standard outlet is 240v can run a 200 amp machine from standard plug

How about creating a bevel for the weld to sit in then you can run multiple stringers in one area to create a stronger tinsel strength. 110 can make a strong weld in a pinch but 220 will always come out on top.

So from the thumb nail pic i did something similar i chopped a 1950 and had shorten the the roof im a big man 6'10 400lbs i had to put a seam from b pillar to b pillar across the roof I can't touch the roof put need to tack it and weld it out so my brother hung me from the engine hoist in a rig we built from a welding blanket so I could tig the roof seam with out laying on the roof

Please dont use brake cleaner to clean surfaces to be welded. Certain brake cleaners when heated by welding will release a gas vapor that is highly fatal when breathed in. Best to just avoid all brake cleaner to stay safe.

Another thing that helps make sure you dont have gap and your stuff stays square, that he didn't do is tack both sides on let's say the square tubing because when you weld out one side and dont have a tack on the backside, when the weld cools the steel shrinks and opens up the back side. Really anything 1/4 inch and above don't use short circuit mig really you need to change processes like same (stick) or switch to a spray transfer which does require different gas and a substantial size machine with good duty cycles dual shield flux core is also va very great option

I disagree about 110v welders and having to preheat. You need to bevel it and run multiple pass welds. Mig is the wrong process for thicker materials unless you are running spray. Do the root with 6010 and the hot passes with 7018. We regularly weld 1 in plate with 1/8 7018 running 110-125 amps. We do not preheat anything, granted it’s time consuming on a 110v machine as your duty cycle is not going to be good at 110 amps. But there is no reason you can’t weld something with a 110 welder because it’s to thick.

The first thing you set about welding your ground to the workpiece another solution is always keep some small plates clip on the plate and then weld a plate to Whatever item you work in that way you're ground stays clean I'm not trying to critique you I'm just giving you a suggestion
