Chop saw story: I just finished a few years getting my tig welding certs and went to work for a aerospace company; long story short the company was a joke and didn't take care of there welders. So I located a job at a mom and pops muffler shop, which was a perfect gig at the time for me. One day we had a full schedule of repipes and I was using the chop saw, well the chop blade broke and shrapnel chunks went into my leg.( a piece of duck tape fixed me right up) Lesson here kids, check for fractures in the cutting blades!

As a kid who used a lot of cutting thingiess on tractor/trailers...listen to this man...havnt had a wheel fall apart on me yet, but have stoped and wondered where a chunk of it went. My greenhorn advice... if you think your too good for safety (my glasses do stay on my head alot) put your glasses on when ur working...pays the fuk off :);)

I found a vintage Wilton vise No. 3 at a garage sale for $20. I think the lady lost her husband. I gave her a $100 bill for it. She looked like she was going through a rough time. I've had the vise now for a little over a year and it's been an absolute beast. Stands up to a lot of abuse, and I'm glad I was able to give it a new home and keep it doing what it was meant for. Got a lot of other great tools from her as well, including a 70's corded Craftsman drill (thing is a monster, and it'll break your freaking wrist if you aren't careful), a beautiful 4' wood and brass bubble level by a brand called "American" and says (811119 48) on it. Also got a vintage Craftsman "dual motion / double insulated" sander, a square, and a handful of other tools. Been slowly but surely bringing everything back to proper working order, but for the most part, they were all well taken care of.

Steve you may have already tried these but you were talking about cut off disc check out metabo slicer disc. I have had a metabo 6 inch grinder for about 12 years. First job i used it on was a push arm off a john deere 850b bulldozer. The push arm broke wright next to where it cracked before. I cut through 5/8 thickness of the wall of push arm on all 4 sides at angle 3 inches from each side of crack one side at a time and cut new plate for a 4 sides with 2 disc's.
