Welding at the Rabbit Tower in the Wilderness Today Feb 20 2024

finally got around to moving the ladder out for foot room on the rabbit tower. the td-9 IH known as Kijiji had issues starting bit ran and acted almost normal today. of course the wood stove would not burn even with a fan blowing on the fire. oh well i chose to live up here after my DIEvorce, lol thansk

Well that was a good trip into the wilderness Joey and Xena. Maybe you could improve the draft on the stove by running a forced air supply pipe in under the fire box like a forge, but don't leave it unattended in case the barometric pressure goes up. Thanks see ya tomorrow.

Could you add a “low pressure flue” from the lower barrel and a damper that between the upper and lower barrels that would allow you to switch from “lower only” mode to “double mode” depending upon the weather? Enjoyed getting to see the D6 with the big V out again this season.

yes Kijiji seem to be wanting to be inside where it is warm all the time but then again he is a southern cat dragged tot he end of the world. the welding sleigh was one of the first ones i built because you need tools and welder for old equipment. the linns will be out once the trails are ready thansk

My suggestion would be to insulate the outside portion of the chimney,I have done it before and it helps,good luck!

King, when your towing sleighs down hill, How steep can you go down before the sleighs will push the cat down the hill. And how many will you tow down hill

it all depends. the cat trains always avoid hills and stuck to the lakes where it was flat. it does not take much for the back sleigh to start pushing and jack knifing everything. these slight hills will need a tandem pull of the cats with 4-6 sleighs. that is why we re-opened these 2 hill areas for filming thansk

we have older videos with lots of ski-dooing. plus the ski-doo has a higher noise level which is hard to control when editing. the quads video can be sped up to smooth out the sound but not the ski-doo. as for WHO-ville we don't show any pictures or videos of the place since they hate me so much, lol thansk

I run a yamaha venture so um familiar with the noise with sleds. keep up with the vids please. possibly look at used oil for boosting your heating. have a good night. ltr

Mr KoO, build yourself a draft enhancer & add it to your chimney. It's just a squirrel cage blower that you hang on the side of the chimney that blows into the pipe at an angle upward. You only run it when you need to boost the draft. Also-Too please weld up a cage for the top few steps and beyond on the Rabbit lookout tower ladder so Staff can't slip backward and fall off. Use salvaged 1/2 inch conduit. OK, FB, Thank You. Work safely so we can see you again.. ben/ michigan

Since Kijiji was being ornery about starting, are the Caterpillar d series cats more reliable then the IH cats like Kijiji As far as starting in the cold and having less troubles working at the top of the world?

they are all the same, it is the little things that make them hard to start in the cold. buying brand new starters that never worked out of the box to buying rebuilt mags off of ebay that never worked. i had to retire just to get this cats up and running and start running, lol thansk

Do you have a guess as to the overall weight of the welding sleigh, as equipped? Was surprised that Kijiji did not want to pull it up that hill near the end. Either that hill is worse than it appears on video, or Kijiji was in a bad mood. Well, we all have good days and bad daze from time-to-time.

no idea on the weight but it is heavy. on that hill, i got off the snow pack and in tot he sugar snow plus this is our first winter on the new hill so we have no idea how or what gear to use. thansk

My Defiant wood stove has a damper on the air intake that has a bi-metallic spring opening and closing a flap. Not sure if this might get the gears whirling 8)

Hi from Yuma. What you use that rabbit tower for? To bad that pressure system buggers your double barrel, have had such good performance from them in southern Sask and Alberta. Thanks for nice video you two!

oh how you suffer down in Yuma, lol. yes wood stove, coal and pellet stoves all work in the south but not up here. it takes for every to boil water so that means the wood will not burn either. more to come as we open up the fun trails thansk

Try not cleaning out the ashes so often. A build up helps air circulation under the wood.

Do your self a favor and forget the top barrel they only draft when you burn extremely hot fire otherwise it cools off the flue gas And condense instead of going up the pipe
