Great welding folks! My Speedglass 9002x were my first auto-darkening helmet, still getting weekly project exercise, and still one of the coolest looking helmets after 20 years. Nothing more satisfying than working with quality tools❤ Greetings from SoCal😎

I see this is just an infomercial for Airgas. I worked for them for 10 years. You can buy the 3M hood without going to Airgas. Everyone sells them without the Radnor logo (that's Airgas' private label).

Love that hood!! Radnor or not 3M makes some of the best products out there. They are just expensive. That's why Airgas put a Radnor branding on it and sell it under private label.

Good instructions. When I was teaching welding I would teach OXY/ACETYLENE brazing first . With all the emphasis on braze bead control. Teach the student to make proper braze beads that do not was out with liquid braze spreading out like split water. The student will learn how to control braze a bead with and temperature control even if lifting the welding torch is needed. I found in a short time the student will master Brazing and can immediately transition t TIG welding with great weld bead control. Try it for yourself and see if there is any difference in the ability to control tig welding beads for a new student..... I know a lot of welding schools don't want to teach brazing but it a skill that should be taught by experienced welding instructor.
@matter9 Жыл бұрын
Why the turning away from teaching brazing? I agree with your perspective on the similarities between gas braze and tig btw.

Welder from Sweden here one question the speedglas 3m is that new for America? We've had 3ms at least 15years. Maybe you should try 9100 vith adflow (clean air in the helmet)
@Mister5102 жыл бұрын
No, I've had one of the original 9000 series for about 20 years. These are now branded as Radnor, which AFAIK is all Chinese made products. Seems like 3M took the old, original Speedglas design and made it cheaper to sell in their low budget line: Radnor.
@sumduma552 жыл бұрын
I was looking around. It appears this is an advertisement for the Radnor brand of helmets owned by airgas that uses the technology. 3m itself puts out a helmet and from what I can find, these Radnor brands are about half the costs. I was going to look for other brands using the same technology but I keep getting lost down rabbit holes telling me how much better everything is over my 20 year old Lincoln flip up that came with a $150 stick welder.

Original t94, I thought that was millers “new” baby? Are there newer versions?
@wargamingsupernoob Жыл бұрын
@@matter9 The T94i XL as well as the T94i listed on their website are new. You can tell the old T94i from the new one because the new one combines the cover lens and the cover for it in one piece of plastic. It just looks uglier than their older ones with the silver around it.

Great to see awesome weld video👍, For the curiosity, In GTAW the method you used to weld is "autogenous", the metal being welded is "aluminium"?
@matter9 Жыл бұрын
Steel. Pound for pound steel is cheaper than AL, and this is in a school remember. Not to say you can’t or won’t learn AL in school but for most stuff mild steel is probably fine to start learning on. Auto-genous is not advised for AL, typically resulting in cracking along fusion boundary. And except for rare cases with special setups and settings AL is done with AC, and you’ll know it when you hear it. Though AL can be done with DC, there are a few videos on it.

My Jackson Translight is about 20years old and it's easier to wear, lightweight and easy to know down. My new Parweld l bought for site work is heavy, cannot get it comfortable and isn't easy to nod down. The head gear is too flexible and has too much adjustment. The one in this video looks like it could be an alternative when l bin the Parweld.

Used Speedglas for years. Consumables are VERY expensive though, and had an ADF failure. Changed to Miller Digital Elite about 5 years ago. Better build quality, cheaper consumables, and the X mode means I can weld in bright sunlight no problems. Good to see you have recognised that the US has more Covid infections, than any other country in the world, and are still masking. N95 surgical masks are FAR more effective though, and better to wear them than cheap dust masks!
@matter9 Жыл бұрын
I’m using the digital elite as well, a good price after an even better priced digital performance. One thing common to both I’ve found is flash is not that uncommon, usually it’s because I’ve accidentally blocked one or more of the sensors with fixtures or clamps. My question to you though is, what sensitivity are you running in either x-mode or regular weld mode. I have to run my performance at sensitivity 8 and my elite at sensitivity 9. As well in x-mode the lens triggers but won’t clear after the arc extinguishes. Do you run a water cooler/torch? I’m wondering if there’s some interference causing my problem. I’d really like to be able to use the x-mode as the concept seems excellent.
@humourless682 Жыл бұрын
@@matter9 I do a lot of low amp welding, always on X mode, high sensitivity. Water cooler, never ever had a single problem, over around 5 years use. I would think your filter could be faulty?
