I also thought the video was going to take a turn from family oriented there at the end when you were leaving the beach! haha.

I don't know many sailors that carry welders ... electric arc welders ... at sea ... wow .... Just a small point for the cost of that welder they could have bought 40 of those hooks ....
@SailingSeatramp
@SailingSeatramp 3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha good point but we bought the welder to built our new bimini before we left Panama but in the end didn't need it. It wasn't so expensive! It was around 180 $, the ready hooks were 70$!

Hair dryers need nearly 2000 watts, so welder more likely needs 3-4000 watts. Generator is just not large enough.

Can the generator run at a constant level? So you don’t have a delay waiting for the generator to cycle up. The welding machine label should have input voltage and amps required. Can your generator provide this? It’s painful watching learners being tentative. Don’t practice on your job. Get a scrap piece of metal carbon steel or stainless and scratch the welding rod along the surface to establish (start) the arc. Don’t stab at the metal. It will stick unless your settings are perfect and you have more experience with your equipment. Great drone shots 👍👍

It can run on constant level too. We will try it next time without the eco mode. Technical the generator should make it yes. I'm sure Mario will practice it more and find a way to do it 👍🏻

Yes, that Hyundai generator should put out plenty of power to burn a 2.5mm rod but it needs to be at full revs - not on eco mode which is causing the rod to stick. Strike the arc a few times off the earth clamp first, holding the rod at 45 degrees and warm up the rod. 😏

Loved all the safety gear for the welding, gloves, apron, mask and the essential thongs (flip flops) :D Sorry to see the welding didn't work, stainless is a bugga to weld, wonder if heating up the electrode in the oven (shh don't say you did it) might help a little. If you have access to some add some vanilla ice-cream to your iced coffee, it's a game changer.

Ice cream!!! What a super luxury thing! Just today we were standing in front of the freezer in the supermarket and thought about buying it but it was so unbelievable expensive! 16 bugs for a small ice cream 😪 but definitely agree it's a game changer and... don't look into our oven the next days 😁

Too bad about the welding. My great-grandfather was a blacksmith. Unfortunately he died a couple of months before I was born. My father said he watched him weld together cast iron using a forge and bellows. I've never heard of anyone welding cast iron. Might be useful to pick up some black smith skills for cruising. Then you just need to carry a bag of coal, a bellows (which of course you can jury rig), some flux and a welding rod. The big hammer and anvil? Probably leave out that part. For the record I was always terrible at arc welding.

I agree its helpful if you are able to do good welding jobs! Lot of sailors need sometimes small jobs done. Could be a good way to earn some pocket money, but Mario is far away from having that skill 🤣

Dann läuft es besser und Sie können den Generator mit maximal 50 Ampere einschweißen, sonst geht er in Sicherheit. that wire is not through the electrode for Co2 welding. You have to bridge your generator so that it runs faster than it will work. I have also done on a 2000 Watt generator. You can weld max 50 amp. can you turn off that ECO mode? Then it will run better and you can weld on the generator max 50 amp otherwise it will go into security.

Thanks for your feedback! We can switch the ECO mode off and will try it next time. Luckily it was nothing we really need and just tried it 😊
