I don't know, I feel like if you call yourself a welder, these are the 2 things that you should never run out of. You should know exactly how much of it should be in the shop at all times. I don't know, that's just me, though.

Maybe keep a spare spool. Hell even a 2 pounder will finish up bout anything

That's what I do now. But I'm also mostly using flux cored so I don't need to worry about replacing gas as well. A bit of spatter but if you run a positive clamp and a negative whip, it will reduce spatter by half or better.
