Every time we get a democratic president taxes go up. Then there's inflation. People are so ignorant thinking that Kamalas plan to tax the billionaires is great. All its going to do is make things worse. Prices will go even higher jobs will be lost. Billionaires own alot of companies that employ people, if you tax them they will raise prices. I work for my self, and the more taxes they take out the higher I have to raise my price so I can pay my bills.

@gertexan the issue is the assumption that poverty is inherently caused by, your words, bad behavior and that's just not true. Plus, punishing children based on judgements about their parents is an interesting choice. Welfare did wonders for my family and so many of my friends' families. I would not be successful today without that help as a kid and as an adult when I fell on hard times.

He destroyed, or rather, WE ALLOWED him to destroy more than that. The reason the poverty level shrank was because of the emerging business-owning class that was recovering from the Depression. With so-called "integration" aka "civil rights legislation", that group was DESTROYED. Why? Because they were largely small businesses who were not capitalized to compete with larger corporations. But the real killer was US. WE, still brainwashed, stopped supporting our own businesses. Sowell never talks about these deeper points because he's still fundamentally a superficial thinker.

I was born in 1950. My father and grandfather owned and operated a construction company that through the 50s and 60s employed many fellows of all different ethnic backgrounds and built private homes and commercial buildings all over our city of about 60,000 and the neighboring city of over one million. He hired on the basis of skill, merit and reliability. I saw many tight black families who proudly worked, saved and built communities. I also saw what Johnsons "Great Society" did to them in a few generations. The black families fell apart and did so at a faster rate than Hispanic, white or any other ethnic group. The urban communities lost focus and became dependent on the government almost completely by the fourth generation. The rural communities remanded strong and vibrant through many more years but each generation more of the youngsters left the farm and moved into town. The older generations have since passed on and now the only leaders are social celebrities who know little about life, love or the value of honest work and family. Just my opinion about my observations.

Excellent comment. This applies across the board as well, not just to the Black Community. When SCOTUS equated pornography with free speech, that policy destroyed all of America. People wonder why we have so much sexual violence but never connect the dots between massive amounts of pornography and the bad behavior that people display. SCOTUS should focus on political free speech being a human right, not pornography being free speech. The people must be free to criticize government policies because that was the exact intent of the First Amendment.

He is all about using empirical evidence, and you will find yourself having a hard time putting it down.

When I was 17, in summer of 1973 I worked in a convalescent hospital. It was a middle to upper middle class area of the bay area. I was a white girl attending high school working to save up for community College. One of my coworkers was a 24 year old black lady from a neighboring big city. One day she said "how many kids you got?" I answered that I was in high school and not married... and had zero kids. She laughed and said "girl you need you some kids so you can get welfare". I told her no thanks, I'll wait until I'm married. She went on to explain how the system worked. I was horrified but later confirmed her story with my dad. I was really mad that I was paying income taxes to support her kids so she and the father didn't have to. The whole miserable system was set up to make black people dependent on the system and make them democrat voters for life. Welfare it's social crack!

Thomas Sowell is a brilliant man but more importantly, a very wise one too. His views on history and economics are based upon facts and figures instead of the reliance on emotions expressed by those on the left. He should be studied in schools across the USA. Thanks for the video and good luck to you.

Thomas Sowell is one of the great political and economic thinkers of our time. He has the ability to boil down huge amounts of data into concepts that the average person can understand (if they have an open mind). Mr. Mars, my last name is also Mars and I'm wondering about the family history of your surname. Perhaps we could discuss it sometime?

True to a point. The perpetual victimhood mindset is being encouraged greatly. And discouraging it gets you labeled all sorts of -ists and -phobes. Healing can't happen when so many refuse to actually heal, and see the progress that has been made. When we have academics that say things like "past discrimination can only be made up for with present discrimination" we really do need to "bash" perspectives like that.

In 20000 I went into my local Hastings in Bozeman, Montana. As I walked in I noticed the new release books, which I normally walked by. I noticed a book titled, 10 Things You Can’t Say in America. So I walked over and it was authored by a man I had never heard of, Larry Elder. I picked up one of the books, and opened to see what these 10 things were. I wound up purchasing that book, and started checking out other books by him. Larry Elder led me to Dr Walter Williams, and Dr Thomas Sowell. I was already a big fan of Justice Thomas and some of his writings. All amazing men, no matter what their race, because all of them back their words with facts.
