The entirety of this arc is amazing. How Meruem went from a monster who kills for pleasure to human like person with emotions is just amazing. Every single character had a role to fulfill however small it may be. Just excellent beautiful writing.

I love when Welfin shouted to Meruem that he would only be loyal to Gyro. Welfin went from being overly selfish and constantly afraid for his life to basically taunting Meruem, who had just spared him and could still kill him at any point, simply to show his loyalty to Gyro.

I don't think I've ever seen confirmation, but I feel like the reason why the nuke was called "The Rose" and radiation was called "the poison" might be because nukes are, understandably, a sensitive topic in Japan. However, I do think it helps to make the fact the king and the two guards are fatally infected more unexpected and surprising. The nuke was a wonderful moment to me, as it said how something as "mundane" as a nuke, compared to all these hype shonen powers, was enough to take out the apex predator... and the radiation is just an extension of that message. Togashi fakes us out with the King's revival, but in truth, something even more mundane, even less hype, and yet actually more insidious and evil than a nuke - radiation sickness, arguably one of the most evil things humanity has created - is enough to take out even the powered up Meruem. Nen doesn't matter if your actual cells are falling apart.

I believe in yorknew city arc, the weapon nuke was mentioned so I think it exist, and I think instead of nuke, the Rose is possibly the most horrific weapon in their world. What really kills people from the nuke is the blast, the radiation is only the side effect from it, but the Rose however is designed to kill through two stages, one is the blast, second deadly contagious poison( which radiation doesn't do ) , Rose is a bio-weapon at its finest. I remember people were really upset the fact that a powerful being was killed by poison, and I'm just glad that it ended this way, it truly show that the worst side human kind could ever be. Not to mention, as a DBZ fan, I'm glade I don't need to witness how the power scale broken off.

I think this is what makes HxH special, this scene exactly protraits what love means, just one word and your world is changued for ever, and I think it's really hard to fully appreciate what we're watching right now, but I think it is extremely deep, from my 1º watch and I wasnt fully able to appreciate this, but at my 2º, I understand that I was watching something brilliant, this scene and the next ones at chapter 145 is the most beautiful media thing I've ever seen, no human creation could portrait the feeling of love in a better way, not cliche kisses, phrases and things like that, there are everywhere, but this, this is something.

The King, like any animal was born with strong instincts and factory presets. Already walking, speaking language, understanding math, logic and statecraft. Those on the latter are part of human knowledge but for certain CA those are mere instincts. Many animals in the animal kingdom devour or kill their own kin. Even mothers devouring their mate, or offprings, or the offprings killing their own siblings to secure more resources, when they're barely hatchlings. Those animals aren't monsters or evil. That's us humanizing them. Meruem only did what he was born into, what his genes mandated: dominate all life... and then deviated due to human ego. Meruem was a creature that while it was in the womb with his twin he rob his sibling of their nutrients because HE was the King. And I mean ego as a consciousness emergent thing. I think ego is part of consciousness- which is this emergent phenomenom us humans are really blessed or burdened with in high intensity due to evolution. In my own materialistic agnostic worldview I see this as a mere random, contigent accident. But that's my own opinion. Compared to other creatures (self consciousness - being aware that we are aware, that's next level shit), our conciousness is what generates this sense of self, indentity and where we rationalize emotions. Many CA had this capacity for speech, emote and question their own selves, while others didn't. Many CA that could use language couldn't question their own instincst like Cheetu. While others where constantly living in their own inner world like Welfin. Gyro is an example of someone with a strong sense of ego that inmediately left his enemy's territory and went ahead to keep continuing his past human goals. Those are different levels of consicousness and identity. And Meruem developed it very quickly considering he was born the last of the Ants. But he, like the RG, never had a chance to have a past memories, like retain a human indentity. I think they were brewed (i.e phagogenesis) in a very special way that only someone like the Queen will know. The show makes it clear that the RG and the King is a different species almost just as the Queen was from a different one. By the time Meruem was dead he had already surpassed others in terms of kindness and knowing themselves... like TRULY knowing themselves. That's why he said he felt like he felt divine, as in knowing how everything felt into place. That's Enlightment and it's clear thats the way we are supposed to see it given that Togashi put some Buddisht thematic elements in his series and even more so in this arc. It's a very interesting debate that always takes place when we arrive and these narrative peaks in this special arc.

Nah I'm pretty sure Meurum was born evil. Killed his mom, killed Peggy and killed random Turtle. The reason you can't say he wasn't born evil is because he has previous intellect from what was used to make him, which is why he can immediately talk, walk, and understand basic and complex things instead of being like a new born baby that knows nothing of the world.

He was born to be the apex predator of the planet. Born with the instincts that everything is beneath him. He was able to talk and walk but wasn't capable of grasping emotions until he matured. We see him care for Komugi long before he gets rebirthed post bomb. He just needed the chance to develop human emotions. How can he do that surrounded by only others without them? He's born as a bug. Not evil

If the king can't grasp the idea of malice then he isn't evil by human definition. You can't unintentionally be evil. You having to knowingly have hatred, contempt and other negative human emotions. None of which the king had.

Pretty sure the reason animals at tchernoby were exterminated was not because of "'mutations" (mutations is not really a thing with radiation, more like you die/get sick and that's it :D), but they did not want those to move away from the area and bring with them contaminated material (dirt, dust etc ...)

thats like saying offprings froms cuckoos that kill the competition are evil. The King, as every other ant, was born with instincts. He had just an instinct to assert his superiority. Chimera Ants are not human. Until you add humans to the gene pool and suddenly ethics and morals are a thing (for some of them), but someone as the King and RG are born without human memories/indentity so they were born with some factory presets and morals didn't play a role in that programming.

​@@blackopspro6455 in my opinion, they purposely showed meruem and most of the ants to be violent and evil at first, having set up that the ants consumed evil/corrupted people and showing the top ants already possesing dark and evil-looking aura from birth.. they killed and did violent deeds with no remorse even though they already possesed conscious minds and bypassing their ant/animal instinct.. if the centaur ant that kite killed can't be considered evil at all, then what is considered evil? idk anymore
