Doc, how is atypical lipomatous tumor treated? Is it thru chemo or radiation ? Tnx for rply

It is removed by surgery. It is not treated with Chemo or radiation (at least not where I have worked).

Hi Doctor, why my husband after removing the lipomatous tumor with focal atypia need to do another radiotherapy after removal? The tumor size 15cm. And biopsi mentioned Lipomatous tumor with focal atypia. The operation done but need to do another session for radiotherapy. What use of the Radioterapi?

Atypical lipomatous tumor is not usually treated with radiotherapy. Please ask his doctors to explain why they want to do this. You might also want to seek a second opinion from a major center that has experience treating sarcoma and other soft tissue tumors. Best wishes for health and healing for your husband.

​@@JMGardnerMD the operation was done with wide excersion with 15x12x5cm weighting 376 grams and the pathology reports confirming intermuscular well differentiated liposarcoma on the right thigh. Doctor suggested to do radiotherapy after the operation parts healed.

I have a lipotumus tumor thats 11 inches wide in diameter, id been ignoring this for almost ten months thinking its a cyst and itll go away, anyways im scheduled a biopsy soon i need a piece of the tumor cut out to find out of its benign or malignant
