I think I know why the game has a problem specifically with Napstaplook, Toriel and Asgore dodging: All of them have extra checks to see if the hit will get their HP to a specific point which will trigger a reaction different from other monsters. Toriel and Asgore always have their final hit deal about triple the normal damage and Napstaplook will not die and instead tell you you can't kill him.

It’s because he’s one of the few enemies that trigger a specific event after his hp gets low enough so the game constantly checks to see if his hp dropped to said point and that’s why dodging makes it crash

2:11 Here’s a Fun fact I discovered: Since you’re not allowed to FIGHT in The True Pacifist route, you’re unable to kill Asriel, or the Lost Souls within him but if you do try to attack Lost Soul Undyne, a weird glitch occurs that causes the MISS Popup to appear several times and the Hit sound to play several times over before Undyne’s dialogue pops up. Oddly enough this glitch does not occur on any of the other Lost Souls, instead the MISS Popup only appears a second shorter than it normally does No clue why attacking Lost Soul Undyne does this odd glitch specifically but it was a neat thing I discovered nonetheless

@@ZaCloud-Animations___she-her Y’know, that actually makes sense considering that Undyne is the Only Lost Soul that does this, and that would make a great Speedrun Trick like the Punch Card Skips I also discovered a Glitch involving The Stained Apron (The Armour that heal you 1HP every 1 or 2 turns), After Asriel delivered a massive rainbow beam that sets your HP to a whole bunch of Point Zeroes your, The Apron still gives you extra HP every turn, but your HP number stays a line of zeros.

So neat! A thorough & well done demonstration! 😀 But... it doesn't look like Napstablook "soft-locks" the game, it just plain locks up, right? Soft-locking is when you can still play mostly normally, but are just locked out of the ability to beat the game by circumstances or programmer oversight. Such as, for example, getting to an island in Pokemon where you can only leave with Surf, releasing the Pokemon that could do that, & there being no other acquirable ones available on that island that can learn it. Thus, you're stuck on the island forever, even though you can battle with other Pokemon & talk to NPCs just fine. That's what makes it "soft" locking, as opposed to a normal lock (or hard-lock, if one wants to use opposites to distinguish the two). A softer version of inability to progress, than the game actually locking up/getting stuck. (So many people are misusing the term nowadays, it's losing its meaning. 😕 Makes it harder & harder to find content about actual soft-locking... I especially enjoy the genre of "soft-lockpicking", where people try to use cunning strategy, tenacious patience, or brute force to escape from a soft-lock situation. Like a modern Houdini, but in video games.)
