One possible theory is Gaster could have been the scientist that did experiments on Chara for determination. Considering he was the royal scientist for the Dreamurr's while Chara was still alive, and they both are no longer confined to their respective worlds. Another interesting theory is Noelle's sister in Deltarune has gone missing, and the giant Gasterblaster in the lab looks very similar to a deer's head. Currently Gaster seems like he can offer power (Jevil, Spamton) but it comes at a price. Gaster might also be the friendly dude who gives Kris an egg.

Deltarune didn't explode as hard as Undertale and we couldn't really expect it to
@thatoneguy4835 Жыл бұрын
Something I noticed is that during the height of undertale’s popularity Gaster was portrayed by fans as a tall calm/collected person but when the first two chapters of deltarune were released fans started portraying him as a silent large uneven monstrous shadow accompanied by quiet whispers and broken speech. This is probably because Gaster has an actual presence in deltarune looming over everything which is most likely what caused this change into something more monstrous.
@JammyJam5588 Жыл бұрын
In undertale he felt like a reference to cut content, something left lost and unable to do anything about it. Deltarune starts with letting us know "no he very much CAN do something, and good luck discerning his motives"
@snowboundwhale6860 Жыл бұрын
From what I remember of Undertale Gaster it seemed like he was being depicted as the fans imagined he might have been prior to falling into the core, or otherwise showing residual traits of that persona. So the calm and collected demeanour comes from assumptions of what "the previous Royal Scientist" would be like, and tall probably comes mostly from the mystery man sprite being relatively tall. Since there was so little information in the first place it fits that the perception changed so much the moment there was more to work off with the hints in Deltarune.
@tommykarrick9130 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s that Undertale fans very much know that they’re dabbling in fanon when they create their gaster interpretations and revel in that fact. If you asked someone who drew a tall sexy man gaster if that’s how they thought he’d really look chances are they’d say “uhh, no? He’s a weird little blob man or something” Keep in mind that there was plenty of spooky mysterious looming entity art of gaster even in the Undertale days. I think it’s more that because gaster is now an active player in the story and we’re getting so many more hints about him right out in the open, there’s greater motivation for people to create artwork more true to how he may actually be within canon (It also helps that Deltarune has a much much smaller AU scene than Undertale had and continues to have to this day)
@Ally_Leaf10 ай бұрын
Well, Wingdings is a dingbat font, so it would make sense if he was a little off-the-wall in his personal life. After the V-day card, I imagine W. D. being like that one comic: "Sans?! Where are my whats-its and doohickeys!? Here, take your groceries, put your brother in the fridge." But when it comes to research Entries? All business.
@tommykarrick913010 ай бұрын
@@Ally_Leaf I kinda like this interpretation. People are hesitant to say the vday card was gaster because the cadence is so silly - it seems more in line with the Egg man, who himself seems to be either gaster or connected to gaster, but even that’s controversial. But to me it seemed to perfectly in line with gaster’s vibe. He’s this broken entity that has limited vectors for interaction. This time he manifests as a valentines letter because that’s how everyone else is communicating, but he can’t mimic it perfectly. The letter is pre written and yet it responds to the reader in real time, and when you’re finished reading it disappears and you hear footsteps. The cadence and style is silly, but maybe gaster is silly. I’ve also considered that maybe scary straight man gaster and egg man goofball gaster are different gasters - one from undertale and the other from Deltarune.

@@RADZULAYXE Good point! In all of my thinking of how the mus_smile sound was made, it feels pretty likely that mus_smile was made with Muffet's laugh as a base first, then Muffet was made last. I can't really think of a pre-existing filter to manipulate audio to make quite the effect that we hear in mus_smile, but my idea of how the sound was made is by taking a small window of samples from a source audio, playing them in a loop, and shifting the sample window every once in a while. I can't think of a way to do that backwards and get a certain audio output out, so either mus_smile was made really late into development, after Muffet was proposed (which i personally doubt), or the Muffet laugh has been in the game for a much longer time. Either that or Toby Fox is a genius and there used to be a different mus_smile that got somehow modulated with Muffet's laugh? Just a guess.

alright here is my new crackpot theory that makes literally 0 sense gaster invented sans sans was just a normal monster that originated in the delta universe at some point in time sans ended up somehow leaving deltarune and being trapped in the undertale universe, where everything sucks and hes forced to live underground it would explain why he seems relatively unchanged in deltarune and some other things probably this is almost definitely wrong i made this theory up in like five seconds lol

Considering that, last I checked, the description for Deltarune lists it as being in the Undertale *series,* this does make sense. Toby Fox said he was planning Deltarune for quite some time, so perhaps he was planning for Gaster then too?

i’d also like to note that the rabbit shopkeeper in snowdin says that sans and papyrus “just showed up one day and asserted themselves” and that nobody knows where they came from if gaster WAS their father (or at least guardian) it would make sense if he was written out of existence, and by extension, sans and papyrus’ connection to the town, since they probably would’ve been living in his house. also, since it can be assumed that sans worked in the lab at some point, it’s possible he was working WITH gaster, perhaps even when he fell. and, y’know, seeing his own dad/relative/guardian be “scattered across time and space” might make you a bit aware of timelines and the quality of reality. might explain how he’s so aware of the player’s meta actions. Also! Another thing i find interesting; we’re told that gaster “fell into his own creation” after we’re told he built the core. I fully believe this to be a red herring. “Falling” or “being in a fallen state” is analogous to death or being close to dying in undertale. If we go with the assumption that Gaster helped, or even started, the determination experiments we see Alphys working on, we could assume that he experimented on himself, melted from the determination exposure, like the amalgamates, and “fell.” this could also explain how he “shattered across time and space,” as those with high levels of determination are able to mess with reality and timelines and stuff. anywhizzle, this is such a great video!! i keep coming back to it to sate my gaster hyperfixation, my adhd thanks you

Theres one other Gaster allusion in the hometown that wasnt mentioned. Iirc, when you approach the mysterious doors at the bottom of the Town, it plays a specific sound while near them. If you take that sound in the files and speed it up by 666% in an audio program, it's actually just the Garbage Noise that plays in entry 17 and on Kris' phone. Whatever happened to Kris (and maybe Noelle if we consider her words from Snowgrave) at that door, it could have connections to Gaster. My current assumption is that Gaster has formed some kind of connection with Kris, like he did with Jevil and Spamton, which is why there have been multiple comments on how Kris has changed recently and why they hear the same noise on their phone that Spamton did.
@plastikrappavevo4786 Жыл бұрын
Additionally, it turns out that the Wingdings font was co created by a man named Kris Holmes. So theres another connection to Kris and Gaster

Obligatory Kris uses they/them. The intro sequence also supports this, though. The dude speaking to us at the beginning not only has the exact same speaking style as Gaster, but his typer value in the code is 666, just like it was in Undertale. So yeah it's almost certainly Gaster who intended for us to be put in an empty vessel, but was interrupted somehow.

Something I feel like a lot of people aren’t talking about enough is the fact that, in the Deltarune timeline, Gaster should still be alive. No royalty = no royal scientist = no experiments = no “creation” = no falling into “creation” = no space time bullshit blah blah blah you get the idea. Unless the space-time-shattering affected him across all timelines somehow, or something else happened in this timeline to achieve the same result. Maybe Gaster as a character is just “doomed” to a fate such as that, similar to how Deltarune Burgerpants seems to be “doomed” to live a similar life to his Undertale one despite the radically different circumstances?

Snowdin Town's theme in Undertale also has the "Don't Forget" leitmotif in it. Which is fitting since that's where Sans' lab with the Don't Forget photo is located. Bonetrousle was originally meant to be Deltarune's battle theme before it was repurposed for Undertale, so it makes sense that Toby would've written a lot of these themes and melodies before Undertale came out. Also the Bunker in town plays the entry 17 noise when sped up by 666% Edit: Also also, Queen says that Noelle needs to "close her eyes and sleep away into a darker darker dream" in the snowgrave route, and Gaster's theme is 100% present in the song playing during the hospital scene where Noelle is talking to herself. it's not the aster font it looks vaguely like it, but so can thousands of other fonts. if it was Aster specifically, it would be an identical match. but it's not. it's just a stylised Z that was drawn manually, then reused. it means nothing. the games do the same with SFX; Susie's Rude Buster spell makes the same sound effect as when Jevil throws scythes down at the heroes in his intro cutscene. does that have any meaning? No one seems to have mentioned this so... There are a few strings of failsafe text that happen in Deltarune if the game somehow loads a conversation without assigned dialogue. One of these is very very interesting to say the least. Is that a cut on your face, or part of your eye? The gash weaves down as if you cry. The pain itself is reason why. This seems to be referencing the mystery man sprite from Undertale. While this alone could be dismissed as a coincidence, the second failsafe text string leads me to believe that this may be confirmation for mysteryman being indeed, Gaster. You can't read these symbols... Or maybe it's the handwriting. Now this one seems way more suspicious, because it seemingly references the WingDings font that Gaster is associated with. Again, no direct confirmation, but it's still something worth considering.

something i literally didn't think of until a few days back, mettaton's quiz show "fight" has the question of who alphys has a crush on, and if the player chooses nothing, mettaton mentions that alphys seems to believe that there's someone outside their reality that is watching her. while mettaton completely combats it and mocks alphys in-game, and while the argument could be made that the vagueness is in reference to the player themselves, it could also be that alphys knows and/or believes gaster to still be out there and his presence to still be alive, and that she has/had feelings for him. it makes sense given that they're connected through their job, and that it's implied that sans, alphys, and gaster were working on things together. plus, alphys is confirmed to have a crush on asgore, so we know she is attracted to men, and that it's possible she had come into contact and known asgore prior to working under him as the royal scientist. just a thing i've noticed recently that i wanted to mention! gaster's presence is so intriguing and i can't wait to see what the future has in store for deltarune, both with possible ties to gaster as a character, and just as its own series!

Gaster fascinates me because it seems as though he's everywhere and nowhere. Like a quark, or a gluon, he exists and he's all around us, yet he's almost impossible to see or measure. He passes right through the world, almost never interacting with it in any way that we can see. It makes me wonder whether Toby might have been reading about particle physics when he came up with Gaster and the broader idea of Deltarune.

It's almost as if he's the Deltarune game code itself, since Deltarune could be the "experiment" that went wrong and since he got shattered across time and space. Especially since there's an implication of connection with the whole "Darkness, Dark World" thing, plus the intro of the game and the cryptic tweets. Or Gaster could also be some sort of third-party character that's from a different world, like the player interacting with the Deltarune. The only difference is that we, the players, are completely separate beings from the games. Gaster's existence comes from the games. It reminds me of a relationship between the "player" and the "narrator/game". In a way, the player and Gaster are similar since they can make the Deltarune characters "aware," or basically give them existential crises. An example would be our relationship with Noelle in the Snowgrave route and (based on other theories) Gaster's hinted involvement with Spamton or Jevil. Idk who knows? So far there's been 2 chapters, so hopefully in chapter 3 things start to line up and make sense.

A couple of other connections you didn't mention: -Sans and Papyrus are specifically mentioned to have randomly appeared in the underground, which makes no sense given our understanding of how monsters ended up there in the first place. This could mean they were either created (presumably by Gaster, either intentionally or as a result of him being shattered across time and space) or that they came from another universe, like Deltarune (but maybe not Deltarune specifically). Sans even mentions giving up on "going back" as if the world he is in is not his home. -Sans' dialogue during his fight in the genocide route, his secret lab behind the house, his quantum physics book and his connection to Alphys imply that he was some kind of scientist at some point (he even hints that he knows about the amalgamates before you go into the true lab). Gaster was ALSO a royal scientist, so they may have worked together and whatever accident destroyed Gaster may explain Sans' strange abilities like teleporting and having knowledge of resets, LV, etc.

I think that the Sans in Undertale is probably the same one from Delta. I think at some point in Deltarune's story, Sans will somehow be banished to a different dimension, that being Undertale's. The reason I think this is because Sans is the ONLY character to look exactly the same in both Undertale and Deltarune. Every other character has some minor change in appearance EXCEPT for him. His house looks exactly the same. His theme song is the only song that appears in both games unchanged. Also in his bunker, there's a drawing of three people with the words "DONT FORGET" written on it. This is clearly a direct reference to Deltarune, and I think the three people are probably Ralsei, Susie, and Kris. This isn't a perfect theory, it definitely has some flaws, but it's the one that makes the most sense imo.

I always thought the "two" were Sans and Alphys, because they seem to be the ones who are hiding most things. Sans seems to have a secret connection to science, considering his secret workshop in the back of his house. Also he and Alphys are acquaintances and they appear to be close enough for Alphys to predict what Sans is about to say at one point, not only that, but Sans also hints in one of the phone calls that he knows exactly what's in the True lab. The strange thing is, neither Papyrus or Undyne seem to know how their friendship came to be, and Alphys gets really nervious when asked about it, meaning their connection has to be kept secret. All of this led me to believe the two were working together at some point, maybe with Dr. Gaster too, in some kind of proyect, a proyect they absolutely can't talk about.

The song during the character creator in Deltarune Chapter 1 -- or rather, SURVEY PROGRAM -- is "Another Him," and you're making what's explicitly called a "creation." Our creation. And after it's discarded, the narrator explicitly tells you that you cannot choose what you are, and tells you your name. But we never hear the end of that sentence. We never hear our name. It fades to white, and Toriel immediately cuts in, waking Kris for school. The end of the narrator's sentence is left open, but the implication is there. But Kris... isn't just one person. The endings of both chapters make it rather clear there's a duality. A creation. A survey. One person. Two beings. "What do you two think?" First off, no matter what direction you press, they will scroll through the 4 songs in the sound test in the same order regardless; happy town > meat factory > trouble dingle > gasters theme. Once you scroll to the next song, you have to to cycle through the remaining songs in line to get back to the one you were on. At least, it does that until you start playing gasters theme. After that, you can scroll through them in either direction. However, now you can’t deactivate gasters theme or activate any of the others. It’s permanently stuck in one state, while still allowing you to view others, but never taking part in them. Who does that remind you of? Side note: it’s also worth noting that the names could very well be parallels to the actual events that led to gasters disappearance; first, he lived in a happy town. Then, he fell into his creation, a sort of “meat factory” (alternatively, the meat factory could be referring to his experiments). After that, the trouble dingle represents his disappearance, and then finally his transformation into Gaster, able to view any state in time or dimensions but never able to interact with them. Sorry that was a lot. I hope at least some of what I said made some sense, lol.

I mean, the job of a meat factory is to take living creatures and break them down into pieces, so maybe it's comparing Gaster falling into the Core and being shattered to an animal being butchered and cut up into pieces? OK, so that's a bit of a reach, but it kind of almost works, at least thematically.

6:06 The fun part about this is that people at some point pointed out that this is NOT a prank call. If one says no, he gives a nonjoke-answer that makes it sound like it's an important matter to get the fridge back running. The only room in these games that have important fridges is the fridgeroom in the true lab. Which coincidentially, he is very much implied to have helped with at some point. 6:26 Major note here: Even tho Goner Kid is not a Gaster Follower, they are very much key to the goner lore and what the plan could have been at the start of Deltarune. The playerentity that is supposed to represent us travels to the world of Deltarune and connects with Gaster to create a goner body(The creator is actually called the Goner Maker, funny name), but why? Why didn't we just take a poor person like Kris without being forced to? Well, Goner Kid has a line if they are talked to with debug-mode enabled. "Yo! You're a ??? too, right?" Debug mode allows all sorts of nonsense, but the most relevant parts for this train of thought are: Teleport to any room, all goners are enabled at the same time and we can arbitrarily set the murderlevel for the genocide route(Which argubly is traveling to a slightly diffrent universe). So they mistake Frisk for a Goner because they presumably have similar abilities at that point. Suddenly the opening of deltarune makes perfect sense. For whatever goal the player is traveling to deltarune, a goner body would be amazing to have. Travel the map in seconds at will, spot and identify anyone who is suspicious and sidestep any potential issue. 13:44 That's not technically true. When calling ourselves either "Kris", "Susie" or "Noelle", he will say that we are about to meet someone "very very wonderful". Something fun is that the Voice also doesn't only appear here and in the gameover-screen, but also the main menu when there isn't any clear data of the chapter. When one erases a savefile, he says "IT WAS AS IF IT WAS NEVER THERE AT ALL.", which ties into the idea of stuff just vanishing without a trace. 25:15 Technically wrong. In the major expositiondump in new home, three dummies appear to tell a segment of the story. I agree with the idea, but I like to be nitpicky. 25:36 That was actually patched back in, just slightly renamed to look less suspicious I guess. Some people say that the number 999 is associated with this character, but I can't really find a source for that, so take that with a grain of salt. Why 999 is relevant is that there is unused content in Deltarune using the Typervalue 999. This unused text doesn't actually contain any relevant info, it's just an introduction to Toriel trying to wake Kris up. But the fact that it even exists like that is very interessting. On "another him", Gaster is never actually reffered to as "him", only his theme is. So I'd say the name is actually directly referencing that. It's another version of the theme called him. There's more about Sans and the True Lab and Gaster's creations and even the eggs to mention, but it feels sorta offtopic compared to the corethematic of Gaster. Well, except that it's sorta implied that some parts of him did become eggs for some reason.

on the subject of 999 - chara actually seems to be the one associated with the number 9. it's seen very frequently as the damage when you one-hit bosses in genocide, the stats chara mentions in the end of genocide all max out at values of 999, the locket and real knife are def/atk 99 respectively, the damage chara does to the game window at the very end is a ton of 9's, unique narration comes up if you talk to asgore 9 times in his battle ("all you can do is FIGHT"), sans is fought at LV 19, etc. chara seems to be related to deltarune somehow, considering they're probably the one who discarded your vessel, based on the japanese translation. another interesting thing to note is that chara-like text appears in undertale's files - this was added in the january 2016 update: "i see. you have made yourself completely clear. i, your humble servant, shall follow you to the utmost." (this is especially chara-like because chara calls you a partner and states that they followed your "guidance.") if chara can speak in the files, and destroy the game window, then they could definitely be an ever-present force like gaster is. not to mention, chara sure does like to reiterate that your choices don't matter. "since when were you the one in control?" so it wouldn't surprise me at all if they're related to deltarune. anyway... all that to say that chara is related to the number 999 and since they seem to have significance in deltarune, that unused room might mean something.

I’ve always been a fan of undertale, but never was interested in the fandom as a whole and looked down on it a bit (mostly because I was too old for it and they were a bit rabid back in the day) so when you mentioned fandom, I was more then a little worried this video would be difficult to watch for people not into the culture. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the video is very friendly to people out of the loop and enjoyable to watch. Good job on the intro parody by the way, hearing that specific theme (was it called “fallen down”?) was a nostalgia trip.

Something that's honestly kind of terrifying about the core is that, if you fall in and die, not only will you not technically die, but everyone will forget you ever existed as well
@KyrieFortune Жыл бұрын
That was based on a common interpretation of the secret picture you find in Sans' lab, the one with three badly drawn people and "don't forget" scribbled on the back. People have interpreted it as a child's drawing of the skeleton family, Sans, Papyrus and Gaster as their father/grandfather/uncle who adopted them, and the "don't forget" is Sans doing his best to fight the amnesia caused by the CORE when Gaster fell into it, his "creation". Come Deltarune, heavily hinted to be something Gaster created and has worked on, with its three Delta Warriors, of which Toby has made a drawing that seems very childish, and its "Don't forget" theme appearing everywhere... and now you have a whole other plethora of wild mass guessing.

Also when you stand at the bunker in deltarune for a while a noise starts playing, and I believe if you speed that up by 666% it becomes the "garbage noise," further confirming presence of gaster in deltarune. Many fans (including myself) believe that the bunker and more importantly what's in it somehow tie to gaster. I personally hope that throughout the rest of deltarune there are bits and pieces of stuff that make you say "WAIT WAS THAT GASTER" but it's never confirmed. I WANT MYSTERY MAN TO STAY MYSTERIOUS. That's just my opinion tho

Same. What I think is going to happen, and what I really hope Toby is going to go for, is that Deltarune proper will have a satisfying resolution, clearing up everything with the Knight, Asriel and everyone, but there’ll always be hints that something darker (yet darker) is happening in the background. It’s basically already what’s happening so far with Jevil and Spamton, and I hope Toby doesn’t feel the need to integrate the secret bosses and their backstories into the main story of the game. My big tinfoil hat theory is that the bunker is going to be a location that’s important to the main story, since it’s so prominent in the setting and there was that scene with Monster Kid, but there’ll be some hidden area there, far more expansive than the main bunker itself, probably revealed using shadow crystals, that either wraps up Gaster’s and the secret bosses’ stories or sets up whatever Toby is going to do after Deltarune.

Amazingly I had a FUN value of 66 and encountered him "or what was told to be him" through the grey door. I had no idea what hell happened.. Needless to say that has sparked my interest every since and I've dug through old YT videos, comics etc and even the code to find out more. The more I dug, the more I was intrigued by what was essentially some-one that didn't exist and just reminds me old JRPGS I used to play on the snes/genesis/gameboy as a kid. Also alot of this reminded me of my Pokemon days playing red/blue/yellow and trying to figure out all the hidden messages "white hand, what missingo really was etc" So I feel like a kid again anytime I see WD Gaster video/theory/comic... In my humble opinion, when the gaster followers say he “fell into his creation”, I infer it as figurative instead of literal. I mean it makes a lot more sense that he was too obsessed and invested into an experiment that he may have gotten a little desperate or made the experiment his focus 24/7. Maybe he disappeared in pursuit of…..something. I don’t know why, but it makes more sense to me then him simply just tripping over a banana and falling into the core, which of course somehow gives him meta awareness despite being in no way related to that.

well. if you look in the true lab, you can actually see a red soul in the last room, on that generator thing. i believe that this is charas soul. and alphys stops talking about how the core works when she gets to the actual science behind it (ie, what powers it and does the conversion), which is unlike her - she rambles for, like, 80 text boxes when she talks about mew mew. my theory is that the red soul powers the core, and she didnt want to tell frisk because it would have freaked them out. if the red soul does power the core, then this means that the core directly functions off of determination - and with determination comes meta shit that we dont entirely understand. its entirely possible that this could have interacted with gaster somehow, shattering him across time and space, separating him from reality - especially considering that determination directly works with time and, depending on how deltarune goes, the fabric of reality (dark worlds, etc).
