Excellent to-the-point video. Replaced a 3/4 hp sub pump w/ a 1hp (19GPM) sub pump. The 20gal tank is approx 4-5 ft from the 30-50 pressure switch. The pump only 30" farther away, off a central tee fitting, and the other part of the tee goes outside to the irrigation system, after a gauge and ball valve, all 1 1/4 pipe. The new pump runs for approx 30 sec, the gauge needle drops slowly another 30 sec, and pump turns on again, over and over. I have yet to totally empty the tank and then re-pressurize to 28 psi, as the owner does not have a drain handy, just a union joint of galv. which might be dificult. Everything is new except 1) check valve which seemed to be okay and 2) pressure tank (Red Lion RL20), which is not that old, and doesn't show signs of any damage / leaking. I tested the air press in the tank and added 10 lbs, w/o draining the tank completely, although the old 11/4 galv was removed, so water was draining at one point. Any suggestions?

So a tank under the house wouldn't keep my well from coming on and off so much? I have no tank at my well. And I don't want one either. What would I wire the pressure switch to under the house?

How to find out if a well tank is bad
@natep16612 жыл бұрын
Hey I have a question for ya. New to well pumps. I have a 32 gal tank and at 45/65 we are still starving for more pressure. Current pump and tank are 4 years old. I was gonna install a 2nd 32 gal tank for longer duration and so I can raise the system pressure to maybe 50/70. This is ok to do right? No downside in adding a 2nd pressure tank and due to the increased capacity the pump won't short cycle is my thought. Any opinions or suggestions? Thank you for the video!

does it matter much if the pressure switch is on the pump or is it better to have it on the tee?
@WendellLeeWellServices5 жыл бұрын
no matter what the pressure switch has to be 5 feet or less from the tank to prevent "bouncing" of the switch (which will burn both your switch and pump up quickly!)

I think well tanks are poorly designed, possibly to avoid coating the inside of the tank. My thought is that the bladder should be for air rather than water. The bladder shape would not be critical and replacement could be through a port located on top of the tank for easy access so a homeowner could just pick up a replacement at home depot and install it w/o even fully draining the tank.

How far can a tank & pressure switch be from the well pump?
@SLOCLMBR3 ай бұрын
A long way if needed. It's common in my area for the equipment to be under the house, and the well/pump out in the yard

can you replace the bladder ?
@WendellLeeWellServices4 жыл бұрын
no, they do manufacture larger bladder tanks that have a replaceable bladder but once the bladder ruptures it's time for a new one
